Acronym is Made in China?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Recently a new iteration of the J1A-GT was released and it is the first Made in China piece of clothing to come from Acronym. These are my thoughts on the situation and Chinese manufacturing as a whole. Enjoy!

there is an interesting thing going on with scaling. at first, for a little bit of money you get a huge amount of value. at some point, the rate of diminishing returns kicks in. and if you scale the thing you are doing even more up, you suddenly have to pay an extra price. for example: doing a website. at first, you can yourself do a bit of HTML, pretty basic. if you use some CMS (like wordpress) you start to be able to do more, but for things like plugins and themes you start to pay money (since you can't do that yourself anymore). and then, doing a custom website. for a tiny bit of improvement compared to the previous wordpress site, you have to pay a huge amount of investment. changing procedures does not equal linear cost development. not that i have any knowledge about the processes involved at ACRNM, and i think that is exactly the point. many people are commenting about stuff like ARCNMs quality and prices, and only from very few of the people we know that they actually have some knowledge on ARCNM itself or the industry as a whole. of course we as consumers are qualified to give our thoughts and feedback, but then the second problem comes into play: discussing in the internet is both great (almost everybody has access to it, and we get many different options/viewpoints/thoughts presented in a nice way) and terrible (we know very few people personally and can seldom judge their competence in the matter we are discussing. of course there are exceptions, and i assume many people in the techwear community want to be knowledgeable, but after all much of the things discussed is specualation, since we dont know the decisions and reasons ACRNM has to do. after all, it is like you said: ACRNM is a premium designer brand with processes that are hugely different to the budget options, and the level of quality they are trying to achieve is going to cost goes up in a non-linear way, sort of unpredictable. maybe the effort to communicate with the factories ad the search for the factories themselves was so hard that they had to get that money back from the customer (who then hopefully has the opportunity in future releases to get more fo the jackets since maybe they dont sell out so quickly). and maybe my thoughs are complete rubbish. anyway, thanks for making a video about this topic, i think with ACRNM having such a huge influence on techwear everything acrnm related is an interesting topic of discussion.

@@DakotaPerez1 what are you trying to do? I have a bit of experience with Linux Debian and wordpress (I do my website by myself, hosting a Linux server and doing everything backend and frontend related by myself - using wordpress as a CMS), maybe I can assist. The web design analogy of getting things more complicated in different situations actually came from a wordpress meetup where somebody explained that phenomenon.

A lot of companies employed Chinese manufacturer to make the products is because of the low labor costs here; they want to save more money and make more profits from it. Some people have some prejudice about Chinese manufacturing which is absurd, they constantly think Chinese manufacturing is the emblem of low-quality stuff, so the thing I won't argue is that acronym team just altered the location manufacturer, and their primary purpose seems to save money but not lower their garment's quality by changing their manufacturing to China. Not all the Chinese manufacturing sucks, the acronym team must choose a manufacturer elaborately so that they will produce the same quality products as the previous iteration which made in Europe.

You can produce any quality in China depending on price, if the money follows you can get the best smartphone there right, in the other hand people are waiting for a kind of drop on prices for ACRONYM , cause since the Nike colabs , suddenly they're becoming more and more and more expensive, errolson justifies himself all the the time saying he needed CZ manufactures but now what? Why moving to china if you only drop the price for 14% ? People paying top money for their products just like to know they have something made in Europe, and if is not , well a massive price drop, what we got now? Now you have any of those so people become skeptical with the man...

Yeah, people know that China can do decent stuff ...for the price. NOBODY goes to China for BEST quality. They go for good enough quality at cost effective prices. So I think you're spot on about the price. People will accept a higher cost for a European-made, even cheaper Eastern European, because of things like the expectations of higher wages, better working conditions, and better environmental controls compared to China's rather history in those areas. People will look the other way on the negatives of manufacturing in China if the quality is sufficient, and the price is right. He's clearly done it for higher margins, yet the pricing is still pretty astronomical for clothing. For comparison take some UF Pro Stryker Gen 3 combat pants, made in Slovenia compared to Acronym P23A-DS pants made in Czechia, or perhaps China now too. The UF Pro pants require more labour, are heavier duty, have multiple specialized location fabric types, are available in a FAR wider fitment range, but even with the optional adjustable kneepads come in about 25% the price of the Acronyms. Acronym's just fashion brand pricing at this point. Material and manufacturing cost is a FRACTION of the retail price whether made in the EU or in China, so Errolson did it purely out of money in his multiple pockets. Either the unit price went down with the move to Chinese the factory, the production volume went up, or most likely both.

I totally agree, but when you sell jackets for 3000 euros, which were made in europe before, and don't tell customers you moved your production to china, sell for the same price, I can see why people get upset

  • @cloud8639

@@indybingyi The thing is quality is not related to countries but supervision of the owner. It’s just goretex pro fabrics, not 10nm chips. China is more than capable of manufacturing as good jackets, if not better, as Czech. I had an EU J27 and this Chinese J1, and they had the same quality. The only problem I had with stuff made in China is the size tag of S24 melting down after sweating on it, which I think is a fuck up in picking the materials instead of production. Another thing is that most of the ppl who complained about this are those who bought acronym years ago when a jacket retailed under 800 euro, and they are no longer a customer anymore. They hope the acronym stays in that price range, which is impossible due to inflation and growing popularity of the brand. E’s preparing for his retirement bb.

you should do an indepth video on knockoff tech brands like taobao, and whether some of them are actually not that bad for clothes in general, or whether they belong in techweqr at all

I won’t spend this much on a brand even though I’m a Nikelab ACG aficionado. The main concern I think ACRNM should have is the employees that are actually making his items don’t steal the designs/schematics/blueprints and start offering a very similar replica/fake of his products. As far as I know due to the low wages in manufacturing jobs in China and the reward potential is huge in this scenario Errolson might have created a monster!

Garments are among the easiest things for piraters to reverse engineer. You don’t need a blueprint to make replicas - just buy a real one and open it up.

"schematics/blueprints" Lmfao. It's garments my man. Such things are called patterns as in pattern making. The two dimensional drawings onto fabric/paper which then fabric is cut from and sown together to create three dimensional garments. You talk as if low wage in the garment industry isn't low across the board. China just happens to be an easy target and scapegoat for such ignorant discussion for obvious reasons...

My Visvim boots made in China. The fact is Quality got guaranteed only when price is solid. And it doesn’t really matter where it was made. lower the price, poorer the products. This time Chinese tech wear enthusiasts will appreciate it if you really hates Chinese products. Just save them for us.

Other designer that comes to mind is Hiroki Nakamura of Visvim, who simply sources manufacturing wherever he feels comfortable, including China
