You can even make the bad guy the protagonist and make audience root for them in everything relating not being caught by the "detective". Even in shows like Breaking Bad they played with that aspect from the very beginning and it was very exiting. Or shows like Invincible shares with you the secret that one of the main character is the killer but the reason of why they did it is kept a mystery for almost the whole season, and yet it increases your interest since the person is not supposed to be a villain. There is no excuse to create an uninteresting murder mystery story where the audience knows who the murderer is from the beginning.

The first dead Jedis kinda admitted to culpability. So you have some information on the eventual reveal. If you were writing a police story, where at the end, it was revealed the cops had thrown a hand grenade into a preschool, it would be dumb (believability sacrificed to a moral fantasy). You couldn't obfuscate that with non linear story telling. So here, the initial incident (the fire) has a lot of pressure. If it's just written a particular way because the author needs a sequence of events to occur, then it risks being poor storytelling sliced up to look complex. Moral critiques in storytelling rely on believability. As is, I'm not sure I'm down with watching Headland create a morally justified (or at least grey) psychopathic murder spree.

As a long-term SW fan (except Disney SW) I have to say the whole murder mystery thriller angle is silly and completely blows basic understanding of who the Sith are. Regular SW fans hearing the announcement of the Acolyte (Padawan equivalent for the Sith) generated some excitement that we finally will see a show focusing on the lore and storytelling of the Sith. Ask any long-term fan they would expect deep dives into the dark side of the force with dark temples and artifacts such as Sith holocrons they sought for ancient Sith knowledge forgotten by time. There is so much they could have dived into. Instead we get SW Special Victims Unit with the Jedi nothing more than NYPD viewed from a social justice angle. This show is nothing more than actors cosplaying in SW with the plot of the show being completely different pushing self inserts of current social political viewpoints into an established IP.

When we talk about murder investigation there are 2 main ways: either they focus on the mistery (who did it), either they focus on the investigation (how the investigator will catch the murderer). Either way it needs very competent writer to make a good show. Obviously this is not the case for most of writting team working for Disney currently, as they are more interrested to check boxes than talent.

Not necessarily. In the anime Monster, the main mystery is the backstory of the murder and his motivation. From the very beginning, it is clear who is guilty. But the main character, trying to find a way to acquit himself, conducts an investigation into the past of the murderer. That makes him believe that he, need to kill him. Because as a surgeon he once saved a murderer's life, now he is obliged to correct the mistake he made when he saved him. Honestly, this story could be adapted quite well for the acolyte, where the good sister comes to the conclusion that it is her duty to find and kill her evil sister. But this would require a superb writer who would show the main character's inner dilemma between sisterly love and the intention to kill. Of course, we don't have such a writer, so there is no chance for good a story.

The entire series falls on it's face right from the get go. Jedi come and offer to train the twins, one wants to - the other doesn't. The one that doesn't gets mad and BURNS THE ENTIRE COVEN TO THE GROUND KILLING EVERYONE. Years later, the one that didn't seeks revenge against the Jedi for...umm...AHA! For being bullies! Yeah, that's the ticket! Mae didn't kill off her entire coven! Mae was perfect just the way she was! She didn't do anything wrong! It was the evil Jedi who made her mad! MAE'S THE VICTIM!!!... ...this is a sterling example of narcissistic projection, and is typically used by anyone responsible for an incident that they seek to avoid accountability for. Example: Obesity.

Why would you let a basic criminal transport take her back when you believe she is strong enough to kill a Jedi Master in 1 on 1 combat. How come the at least 3 eye witnesses to Osha being on that freighter at the time of the murder was ignored without consideration. The story loosely revolves around the themes associated with the character Darth Maul introduced in The Phantom Menace in 1999. The Acolyte is trying to invoke the mystery of the Phantom in that Lucas film. This is where they get the Murder/Mystery element in their description. The race of Darth Maul is also prominent in the Acolyte as a callback for fans. In the EU (Expanded Universe) pre-disney, Darth Maul was born to a Nightsister, also known as the Witches of Dathomi. Palpatine(future emperor) saved the baby and used it a potential apprentice, at this time Palpatine was the apprentice to Darth Plagueis, Palpatine hid Maul from Plagueis as Palpatine plans to kill Darth Plagueis, Plagueis finds out about Maul, Palpatine then tells Plagueis that Maul is just a tool for assassinations. Hence Maul and the Acolyte share the same role as assassin, Maul was originally an acolyte of the Sith. The Acolyte is created by non-creatives who're incompetent, they just used bits and pieces of Darth Maul's origin story to push their propaganda.

You will see a clump of waste products, referred to as 'slag', collects at the top. There's more of it when you stir the pot, or add diverse products to the crucible. Some have decided that slag needs a backstory, or some actual useful purpose. That would be wrong, and a successful outcome is unlikely.

This is what a xerox of a xerox of a xerox looks like. Like that progression of captains from Wall-E getting fatter and fatter and more incompetent. This is that show. The final devolution of the genetically defective children of married royal siblings of several generations. It's the culmination of the stupidity of Mandalorian, Boba Fett and Obi Wan shows.

Until about a year ago, The Acolyte was a fever dream, an almost mythical idea of a show that nobody knew what it was, only when it was set and who was in charge of it. Around the time Indy5 came out, lost money, and Lucasfilm was put into question on anything they were developing, tangibly or allegedly, only then did it seem like The Acolyte began to actually start happening. If the show is a murder mystery with less depth than a puddle, then I have no doubt that the show as a whole was thrown together only in the last year and did not have all that time developing it to be the best and biggest thing ever, but instead a show with the plot points that sounds ripped from a 12yo's wattpad fanfiction.

Something I still don't get, why do the Jedi who were present when Mae started the fire feel any guilt over her coven of witches dying? Their deaths are completely Mae's fault. She got angry that her sister wanted to leave and join the Jedi so she started a fire, it got out of control and killed all the women.

The Acolyte is, indeed, a dark murder mystery--heavy on the dark, light on the mystery. The murder victim is the franchise. But who is the prime suspect? Disney? Lucasfilm? Headland? Iger? Kennedy? Perhaps all of these? The real mystery, however, is why Disney would permit the murder of the franchise. This is a puzzle.
