ACNE TREATMENTS | SIMPLIFIED By Dermatologist

Much more skin care tips & hacks with daily updates.
Specific guide to acne treatments.
.
.
Step one: Salicylic acid wash, many good & cheap brands to choose from. Use in the am only. If you do not have any skin irritation, you can use in the pm
.
.
Step two: Find a retinoid, skip the #retinol step ff you are serious. For those residing in the United States, Differin is over the counter. For those residing elsewhere, be creative. Either order online or see your GP. You don’t need a dermatologist to prescribe topical retinoids. The finer points of retinoid application: use as tolerated, namely if you have redness, stinging, flaky skin, itchy skin, sore skin- BACK OFF, skip a night or two or even three. Apply to acne prone areas. #Retinoids are not spot treatments
.
.
Step three: Get a good simple moisturizer. You are gonna need it if you are using salicylic acid & retinoids. A moisturizer also helps restore skin barrier function that has been compromised in acne prone skin. Apply 2 to 3 times a day. Space out application, reapply after your pm retinoid application
.
.
Give it time: 6 weeks in fact. If you are really serious about gauging progress, take a few photos, re-assess in 6 weeks. Never use subjective measurements as a guide
.
.
Adjunctive measures: The usual, eat healthy, drink water, don’t pick, take off your makeup before bed, use non-comedogenic products etc… all very important
.
.
Other treatments: Up to you, you can ‘give it a go’ with the usual- tea tree oil, niacinamide, glycolic washes, witch hazel, toners, serums, masks, spot treatments, hydrocolloid dressings, benzoyl peroxide washes, green tea, zinc supplements, ascorbic acid, & the hundreds of retinol products out there. If you must, try these before seeing a dermatologist
.
.
Skin’s irritant threshold: Varies between individuals, exceed that limit with lots of product use means going backwards. Acne can be classified as an inflammatory skin condition with barrier compromise, treat it accordingly
.
.
Action: If you are still having a tough time with acne, my colleagues @cliniccutis can help
.

Disclaimer: I am a procedural dermatologist, I do not manage acne. If you have acne & would like medical treatment, please see a medical dermatologist. Hint: if you are serious about treating acne, try this 3 step program in addition to diet, supplements etc.. If you do not improve, a dermatologist will PRESCRIBE you MEDICATIONS. The job of a dermatologist is to safely treat acne without any 'fluff', in some cases it may involve DRUGS like antibiotics, anti-inflammatory mediations, oral vitamin A & or hormonal control. Expire all remedies before seeing a dermatologist if you want to give 'natural treatments' a go. Alternative consult a dermatologist if you want your acne fixed- quickly. Remember the number one predictor of acne scarring is the time taken to EFFECTIVE control, and not the time taken to ' give it a go' or try things out. Scar mitigation is more important than scar treatments, the latter has set variables, the former depends on your perception.

Step 1 : Salicylic acid cleanser 2% Step 2 : Prescription Retinoids (tretinoin, adapalene) Step 3 : Simple moisturizer Stick with it for at least 6 weeks. Another tips is sunscreen, diet, exercise, sleep, drink water.

@@ilovelisa2594 Yes you're actually right but if the Salicylic acid is in a wash form then it's fine. Also if you are using a leave on Salicylic acid product then you can use it in the AM then use your Retinoid (Adapalene) at night time :) Once I tried using a leave on 2% Salicylic acid then followed it up with a 0.3% Adapalene and my face stung a bit and I had to sit infront of the fan for like 15 min lol to make my face feel better since it was stinging. I was like okay I am not doing that again haha.

Dr Davin, you treated me many years ago and I've been following your channel since it came about! I am in my mid-20s now and I use 15% Finecea in the AM and 0.025% Tretinoin in the PM with a super simple, very gentle routine. You got me started on the La Roche Posay range and I always have a bottle of the Anthelios SPF50+ or the Toleraine UV 30+ in my bag. The La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume is my ride or die for moisture and soothing. It's wonderful seeing you continue to deliver wisdom that works.

Simplifying my routine helped a lot. Effectively remove my makeup and then use a simple cleanser and moisturiser and only 3 actives (niac, azelaic acid and glycolic acid) that I rotate through every 3 days. I want to start a retinoid but I’ve been hesitant. Starting slowly should do the job though

I found the SA in the washes I used stripped my skin. I switched to slightly milder cleansers and started using a tonic with AHA + BHA and my skin seems to tolerate that better. I guess the concentration is low enough. What I found was a game changer for me was using the Neutrogena hydro boost gel on damp skin underneath my moisturizer. I used to get a lot of peeling on my nose, I guess my skin was very dehydrated.

I just found your channel and first I really appreciate the care you put in your videos. I have been to my DM and was told I have normal acne as well as acne due to medication causing oily skin. I am on doxycycline for 3 months, as well as Tretinoin cream like you said the bedtime 3x a week spread out. It feels like it’s making my face worse and my face is in pain most of the time, my DM said that it will get worse before it gets better. I have been on for almost 3 months now with no improvement. I kinda feel hopeless and it’s starting to really affect me. I was hoping for your opinion on this since you stated if there’s irritation to stop use. Another professional opinion would be amazing. my first doctor didn't even warned me about the food I take. even scolded me for saying such coz it doesn't have any basis. I keep going back to him for checkups. he was able to stop my acne for some time but it came back + ugly scars. I just transferred to another doctor... I think he's doing well. I have cystic acne for years already and I'm already 32 this year. ends up badly as scars... I hope for the best this time. 1st week of doxycycline is done. 😊

There's definitely a reason to why I came across this video on KZread: kzread.info of Jyovis Ayurveda and I was very happy to see the results. I even followed few of the tips explained and it actually worked. Then I finally decided to contact on ...... (+917208190693) to cure my Problem from the root cause. The team really helped me a lot. Thank you Jyovis!

Thank you Dr for this video ! The Neutrogena cleanser works good but the fragrance is really too strong so I was thinking about the Cerave SA since it's now available in France as well. I alsa had great results with azelaic acid (the ordinary). very effective and a little goes a long way, I definitively recommand it.

The best product I've found so far for my skin is Epiduo. However having sensitive skin I can only use it few times per week. Now I'm trying Differin + azelaic acid and had a big breakout recently :/

Hey I’ve been proscribed epiduo as well ? I don’t think it works that well ? Do you just put it on after your moisturiser as a spot treatment

@@Alex-dm8vf Epiduo is awesome! I tried many products and it's the best, so give it a good 3 months. Use once a day at night after cleanser and before Cerave PM moisturiser. Apply to the whole area of your face that tends to get spots, not just to individual spots.

This is my exact routine, except I use tretinoin 0.05% daily (on my third month now). It worked very well to clear my skin, but my cystic acne is returning. I will be going on accutane.

Dr. Davin, As someone who wants to begin C02 laser therapy, is the "Tetra C02 Coolpeel" just as powerful? I've been told it is, but I'm curious what you think. I've spent a lot of money on improving my scars and I really just want to nip it in the bud. I saw the video of "one of your favorite patients" about my age, in her 20s.. you said that she got the C02 over the course of a year, every 8 weeks? Was this a C02 laser that required a lot of downtime? Or was it similar to the Tetra Coolpeel in that it requires very little downtime?

I think he got that estimation wrong. 40-50 days on the cleanser? My Cerave SA Renewing Cleanser 8oz lasted for 8 months using twice a day! lol. Nonetheless, awesome vid as always.

Could at home blue light therapy work for acne caused by progestin-only pills? OCPs and spironolactone have been ruled out as options due to contraindications. Already using benzoyl peroxide, retin-a, glycolic acid, sunscreen. Could azelaic acid do anything?

If you start Vit A, to prevent peeling from dryness and breaking out like crazy. Use moisturizer first and then apply the smallest of the smallest amount of the Vit A, smear it well on your hands and tap your face mostly around the eyes (but not on the eyelids and eyebags area), forehead, and cheeks, then neck and chest. Then apply moisturizer again. Creating a sandwich 🥪 effect. Your skin will be very grateful with minimum break-out. I swear Vit A should come with very specific instructions. Step by step cause I was peeling like a snake the 1st time I use it and my skin felt like a desert ready to crack any minute. The moisturizer is a MUST with Tretinoin or Retin-A or Differin among other names. Start with the lowest %. Until your skin can handle it. Is extremely strong! After a year of using it, my skin is happier and I'll have product for at least 5 years. That's how much I use every other day. Good luck!
