ACL Reconstruction Graft Choices

You have numerous choices for your ACL reconstructive surgery graft. To reconstruct the ACL we need to use a "tissue" to build a new ACL out of. We have two broad choices, we can use an allograft (cadaver) or autograft (your own tissue). Within the autograft category we have the choice of your hamstring, patella tendon, and quadriceps tendon grafts. There may be advantages to various grafts in certain circumstances. Read the disclaimer below, then you can visit this post on my website for more information about your ACL graft choice options. www.howardluksmd.com/orthoped...

Please do not forget ACL Repair options such as Bear, Ligamys and InternalBrace as Options. I went with Ligamys for my ACL rupture and could not be happier. No additional injury to my leg and keeping my own ACL 😊

Great video, doctor! Thanks for sharing. Question: I had an arthroscopic surgery to repair my ACL, PCL and LCL when I was 15 years. I'm 46 today and I'm curious about what method was used for the reconstructive surgery, any ideas? By the way, I only had 3 holes performed in the knee area, nothing else. Thanks in advance for your help.

@@TheSimbian It took about 2 years after the surgery to be able to play soccer again. A good amount of therapy as well, but unfortunately I reinjured the same knee a couple of years ago and looks like I'm going to have to get another surgery. I can walk without limping, but I can't play sports.
