ACE FREHLEY On New Album “10,000 Volts”: “It's Same Guitar Playing Style As On The First KISS Album”

Музыка

Ace is Back, and I Told You So! The legendary guitarist, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, and founding member of KISS, Ace Frehley, will release his newest studio album, “10,000 Volts” on February 23, 2024 via MNRK.
The first three things that come to mind when you think of Ace are guitar God, innovator, and virtuoso. He is one of the world's most respected and influential guitarists who has forged an outstanding 50-year career. What separates the innovators like Ace from those who followed, is the courage to try something different. To break the rules and rewrite them at every opportunity. To challenge himself until something completely new is created that he can call his own. Ace continues to find there are walls in guitar playing and songwriting he needs to break down.
“10,000 Volts” goes beyond the boundaries of Ace's previous solo endeavors and taps into a much statelier and melodic rock-oriented presentation of his music reminiscent of his 1978 solo album. There is no shortage of his theatrical vocals and entertaining lyrics on this release. Ace's energy is combustible as he delivers his signature crunchy guitar tone and fluid-like playing, with some blues bravado thrown in for good measure. He impressively leaps from the powerhouse opener of "10,000 Volts" to the punchy "Cherry Medicine" to the soulful balladry of "Back into My Arms Again." He closes the album with an epic guitar instrumental, "Stratosphere," showcasing his fretwork skills in all its grandeur. In total, eleven finely crafted songs that will vibrate your soul.
“10,000 Volts” was co-written and co-produced by Steve Brown of Trixter and Ace. Their dynamic partnership and chemistry shine bright on this release, and together, they are already plotting “Origins 3” and a possible live recording.
Correspondent Robert Cavuoto spoke to Ace Frehley about creating 10,000 Volts” with Steve, who helped bring this album to life. Ace shares how he has six portable recorders filled with new song ideas with has no interest in slowing down or retiring! He enjoys writing songs with positive energy and, after 17 years of sobriety, is no longer interested in writing lyrics with drug or alcohol references.
He admits he had his fair share of doubts about maintaining his creativity while getting sober but quickly realized sobriety made him even more creative. As much as Ace loves creating music, don't count on him ever releasing an entire album of instrumental guitar music, as he feels his fans might not be interested in songs where he is not singing!

Good interview @Robertcavuoto Ace is Ace. A lot of comments on here saying he’s drinking living in the past. It’s always comical and fun to listen to him regardless if he talks about the past, I look beyond that and just enjoy the interviews. I don’t listen to every single ace interview out there. This was a great one. I’m glad I tuned in.

He has a lot to look back on. Lots of heritage players reference their past work when discussing what they're doing now to put it in context. I don't get persons being a fan of someone with a storied history and then complaining when they reference it. Maybe not really fans?

Dont do a live album. Do a live concert DVD with a soundtrack attached to it as a separate entity. Do some cool packaging, maybe a couple of Easter eggs on the DVD, plus an "Ace" guitar pick, Ace used guitar string, or a small number of 4x6 Ace drawings or doodlings (kind of how Tool's Adam Jones did some original artwork on the back of 18 COA's for his new Gibson Flying V, which were limited to 50 guitars, so not EVERY fan got the special artwork. It was purely luck of the draw, and the 18 pieces of "art" were all different as well) that would only be in a select few of the DVD packages. Maybe a replica laminated backstage pass from the recorded show(s). Do something cool like that with the packaging. It would be a total hit out of the park for you. Im guessing "Cherry Medicine" is about Ace and Anton's preferred drink in the early 80's, lol. "Constantly Cute" is a great title for a nice, syrupy poem, but for a rock song? No Origins I was pretty good, but Origins II song choices stunk, IMO. Better song choices are needed for Origins III. Why not redo a KI$$ song and get Peter to sing on it? Maybe "Strange Ways?" Or a different cover tune with Pete singing? Gotta think outside the box, my man

Probably not a good idea only for the reason ACE sings about 50% of the lyrics in most of his songs when her performs live. Part of that's age and the other part ADD, as he's more focused on his playing at any given time and forgets to sing into the mic and when he does he comes in late.

@@JokersWild70 The fans weren't buying Ace's previous studio albums, so a lousy sounding live album from a vocal standpoint isn't going to move the needle, no matter how well it's packaged. That said, I'm excited to hear all the cuts off the new studio album, as I've heard nothing but rave reviews from those that have heard it and love the single, 10,0000 Volts. It's the best original song I've heard from ACE since he recorded "Into the Void" with Kiss on Psycho Circus.

@@MikeBodo Not so much a live record, but a DVD. 10,000 volts, which I personally don't think is anything other than getting a rating of "good," already has something like 400,000 views just on YT. I've been reading all of these fan comments on social media who are just waiting to buy the record, so a DVD of Ace playing a few of these songs live, plus some other classics, and theyd be all over it. You seem to forget that KISS studio records weren't selling well when they released "Alive!" either. In the next year would be a perfect time for Ace to record a show or two and release it not only as a DVD, but also as a live recording. I absolutely think it'd sell

He’s not dead yet. He can barely form coherent sentences. So don’t expect him or his team to try and do Chinese Math here. Good lord. Just getting him wrangled up to go out on stage has to be a Herculean effort. I love Ace, and Ace made KISS. I’m just glad he’s still able to function and get out there.

Ace strikes me as the kind of guy who retires 10 years after he dies. He just like music is his life and even when he's not releasing anything he's still writing and recording. I've said it many times and I'm probably in a minority here but I always thought that Ace was the best songwriter in KISS. His 78 solo record proved that. The fact that he's the only member of KISS to have any real success as a solo artist proves that. Even when he does cover, he has a great ear for them and knows how to make them work in his style. His arrangement of 2000 Man is far better than The Rolling Stones original version.

When he says he's been sober for 17 years, understand that's a total over the course of his life. Not a new personal record. You can't bullshit a bullshitter. New record sounds good though. Ace is probably not as nice as you might think, but I'm pretty sure he's a 'don't start no shit there won't be no shit' type of dude too. Kiss needed a trippy type dude. They suffer without it musically. Live they get it done with some Paul fakery... Kiss would have been revered as black Sabbath level if they let more ace songs on, let Peter sing more and let gene 'be part of the band' and do mostly merchandising, playing bass and harmonies. I've heard stuff about paul. Some I believe, his song writing and drive. Drive is a double edge sword.. He put the band on his shoulders. Ace solo was the album we wanted because kiss fans like ace songs and we were deprived on most releases. Paul released a very very good kiss record with his solo record. I put the other two solo albums at the very end of my favorite kiss album list. They should have let ace do weird Jimi type stuff. And if he still quit I wish they would've got randy Rhoads to replace ace. Kiss would have kept that guy alive. He didn't do drugs. He was a teacher, he would have gave the band van Halen credit for the 80's. Literally the perfect fit. Ace can't say he's on Randy's level... Ducking no-one can. I love ace but just sayin

Why must he mention Paul and Gene in EVERY interview???? I can't take hearing his slurred speech much longer. He continues to make ridiculous statements over and over. He still owns the Spaceman makeup design. NO, he doesn't. He's going to get royalties from the KISS avatars. NO, he won't. This is my best album since my '78 solo album. He says that with EVERY new album he puts out. If all these albums are so great, why doesn't he play any of the songs live??? He plays more KISS songs in his average set [ some he neither wrote or sang] than he does his own solo material. Why does he need TWO other guitar players in his band? Because he barely plays in his live shows now. Gene and Paul are jealous of his success? NO they're not jealous of a guy playing to partially filled 2,000 seat venues. Tommy Thayer is going to have to go back to the bread line? NO- my guess is Thayer probably made as much per show as Ace does currently [since Ace can only partially fill 2,000 seat venues. I've been a KISS fan since 1974. Ace was GREAT and an integral part of what made KISS successful. He isn't anymore, and every time he opens his mouth he says something stupid. Maybe he has early dementia, or maybe years of drug and alcohol abuse has rotted his brain. I wish he'd just shut up already.

Ace still blames "The Elder". He then cooperated quite well for the album, according to Paul. But he left KISS because his addiction became worse. And obviously Ace still is proud:"Paul knew immediately that I was the right guy". It's good to see that Ace now found a new "brother in Rock'n' Roll''. Steve Brown. 10.000 Volts is nice, but Steve can not make Ace GREAT again.

Yeah people don't like a solo act. Like Elvis or MJ. I get drugged a lot for being a solo act. Clones always showing up with their clone tricks, same as the last clone and the clone before that. Same ingredients and stupid bullshit coming from the same unwanted source. All looking to be promoted. Happy to hide behind a drum set , until they feel underated and start wanting and have done enough to start stirring up controversy and problems. Start wanting recognition, and credit and control and power and say of what happens and control and to be the leader. And all this " what I've done for you". Crap. " Wouldn't exist without me" stuff. .

Ace doesn't know shit about EVH. Eddie's solos are very melodic and singable. Ace can't touch him.. and ps. I'm a big 70s Ace fan.. But Ace doesn't play anything like he used to. His solos today are not memorable at all. I've come to think Ace is jackass, and he doesn't give one shit about his fans. He basically said it himself here on air; he can't be bothered by kids wanting his autograph at a convention.

Ok, but hes said how great every record hes done is the best. Thats what bands say. I mean, the single is pretty good, but its not "Back in Black" or anything. Good solo, meh verses, and a decent chorus. I wouldnt say its shit, but its not great either, IMO. And yes, Ace, it's pretty obvious youre back on something. My guess is pills. Get a better wig, stop dying the goatee, start giving a shit about your fans, and put a little effort into your performances, because right now, theyre also meh. Quit with the Paul and Gene swipes too, please. Its enough. They didnt want to pay you 250K per show to play 2 or 3 songs at the last few shows. Get over it

Both of them looked high, both had a bad case of grinding their jaws, Ace couldn't stop grinding his jaw even when not speaking and she looked pretty fucking high, most of the comments were suggesting the same thing !
