Accurate Miniatures 1 :48 P-51A Mustang

Ойын-сауық

This is a kit I've had for years now, probably around the same time I started building modeling on KZread. It's the more uncommon A model of the Mustang family. A really nice model from 1992 that I find still holds up.

    I tried narrating with a new mic, but it was so quiet it was frustrating. I fussed with it and the audio levels for over an hour but no go. The one that I want to buy at the moment is really expensive because of the shipping prices. A lot of places are used really expensive shipping at the moment to make sure the parcels get to the customers. I will keep trying.

    Thanks Anthony. You are correct the AM line has be repopped by Italeri and Revell Germany, but I believe it's Academy that owns the molds to them now. But I don't think that they own all of them, as I've never seen the A model released again. I'd actually like to build another one, but the F-6 photo-recon version, especially since I learned that Canada used them in the war. One day I'll find one :D

    @@rebelsatcloudnine I think your right . I did see the P51B on Academy but I don't think any of the Mustangs are obtainable easily . One of those Dauntless kits has been rereleased ; which are very tempting ; though I prefer the earlier Midway version .

  • @rebelsatcloudnine

    @rebelsatcloudnine

    4 жыл бұрын

    I agree there, the Midway themed kits seem to be harder to find. Academy seems to release the P-51B every few years, I wonder if they don't have the A model as well. I've heard that Academy also has quite a few Hobby Craft Canada molds, that are hidden in storage, but that's always been a rumor.

    @@rebelsatcloudnine You never know who has what ! I get the feeling that some model companies deliberately create a rarity value so you rush to buy it . I would say I am a moderate collector but I still have about 13 unmade kits . I started a Whitley yesterday I bought more than 3 years ago . I usually get some kind of discount on the full price . The Airfix Beaufighter in 72 scale is nearly as expensive as the Tamiya 48 scale versions ???

    @wkelly30533 жыл бұрын

    Hello. Just subscribed. Very nice work. You have more patience with painting than I do, and it pays off. My only suggestion would be with your paint chipping. After watching a couple of your builds, the chipping seems a bit stark and bright compared to the rest of the finish. Chipping is also less realistic if it is too random in its placement, i.e. chipping or wear usually occurs for a reason in specific areas due to interaction with the crew or maintenance people, such as on walkways, removable panels along the edges, etc., not just anywhere like the top of the fuselage or too far from the edge of a panel where there is much less reason for paint to come off. Japanese aircraft do seem to have paint coming off everywhere, but they are an exception. Wear along walkways may also have a feathered look rather than a clean chip next to untouched paint. This effect can be achieved with a stiff drybrushing technique or even sanding the top color coat to reveal a silver or other base coat beneath. Finally, wear is not always bright because it is also dulled over time. As such, many people will weather their model after the chipping/wear is applied to tone it down. Finally, the old model building rule of "more is not necessarily better" definitely applies to chipping. It can be overdone. Hopefully other viewers will not lambaste me for my comments. Your work is still wonderful, and in the end, it is a hobby, but I always appreciate people giving me build suggestions. Thank you and stay safe.

    Complete novice here, why so many different glues?

  • @jordyncollier919

    @jordyncollier919

    3 жыл бұрын

    Since you never got a reply, here; There are many types of glues for many purposes and uses. White PVA glue is used to glue clear parts to keep them from reacting to superglue or modelling glue, and can also make instrument panel glass. Superglue is good for gluing metal to plastic, or making quick and strong bonds. I've even used it to make a primer type of covering on metal parts. And then there are many types of plastic cement in tubes, bottles, etc. Thicker glues are good for large pieces, like fuelages or wing structures. Extra thin cements are good for small parts, but also make bonds just as strong as the thicker cement. Thin glue also flows into gaps, making great contact areas between parts. Overall, all the different glues do certain jobs others cannot do. Pretty cool, if you ask me.
