@@TheWaggishAmerican I wasn't too thrilled with the movie either, but I'm really glad to have the chance to build this kit, I'm even more now considering getting the Harkonan Ornithoper so that I have one for myself. It's such a strange thing, but yeah, that frame is just so amazing when you hold it in person, it just doesn't compare to seeing it on the screen. I was thinking that as well, possibly some like a digital camo would look really cool all over those wings. David R Lentz, Columbus, Ohio, USA (Monday, 24 June, 2024, 7:51 pm EDT). Another clean, satisfying kit build production. You make it seem effortless! (BTW, just how many rebels? Is your secret for your alacrity that you lot are clones?-albeit from a galaxy far, far away? Or Canadian Star Trek fans?) Round 13:50, you mask the aluminum-painted cowl and nacelle prior to painting the bright blue. Yes, I long have wondered the same thing about the notion of ADDING silvery paint to a subtractive process as paint chipping. I very much would like to hear/read your comparison of this Airfix B-17G kit with Revell Germany’s B-17F kit.

I had planned on doing a video comparing the 2 kits, but this was several years ago, and then life got in the way and that took a lot of my time away from modeling. David R Lentz, Columbus, Ohio, USA (Monday, 24 June, 2024, 4:54 pm EDT). A straightforward build of the Revell Germany 1:72nd-scale kit of the Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress USAAF Heavy Bomber, which is what one requires. Nice, clean work. (Later, as I was working on my comment, I again paused to watch the video of your finished warbird.) Have you built Hong Kong Models’s 1:32nd-scale kit of Boeing’s B-17E/F Flying Fortress USAAF Heavy Bomber kit? I would like at least three of it in this scale, to make 1) a B-17E replica, perhaps representing the first wing of Flying Fortresses the USAAF assigned to the European Theatre of Operations (ETO), 2) a B-17F reproduction as the “Memphis Belle”; and 3) still another for a model of a later B-17F undergoing one of the field modifications. I prefer to configure airborne my aircraft models, its flight controls set slightly from neutral in a moderate adjustment of the trim, its propellers spinning, the gunners blazing away at the Luftwaffe birds storming in as screeching lammergeiers, its bomb bay doors gaping open as the crew close upon their objective nearly 7,000 metres below. Not in every case, though. Similarly, have you built Hong Kong Models’s 1:32nd-scale Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress USAAF Heavy Bomber kit? I would like three of this one, to make 1) an early B-17G still in the Olive Drab over Neutral Grey camouflage, 2) a late-war B-17G with the Cheyenne tail, in natural metal, and 3) a conversion to the Korean War Boeing SB-17G Flying Fortress USAF unarmed Rescue Aircraft, also in natural metal, with a Higgins boat secured ventrally. I also would like at least two of Hong Kong Models’s 1:48th-scale Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress USAAF Heavy Bomber kits. Have you assembled any of this B-17G model? Do you know if the company offer any 1:48th-scale replicas of the B-17E or -F? (I discount Revell-Monogram’s kit as outdated). I saw an entry listing on KZread of your video on Airfix’s 1:72nd-scale kit of the Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress. I will watch it after I finish this. I would like to find some of these (I saw Nigel’s build of it on Nigels Modelling Bench, where he gives it high marks, deeming it better than Revell Germany’s B-17F miniature), as well as a few detailed, new-mold kits of the B-17E. Alternately, would one be able to backdate the aforementioned Revell B-17F kit to a model of a B-17E? If so, what would these specific changes, e.g., parts swaps, physical alterations of parts, sub-assembly exchanges, etc., be? A case in point, I understand that the B-17E had a different glazing on its dorsal turret than following versions. NOTE: As I am writing this, and checking online for various other B-17 kits, I find this new entry into the market: “Wolfpack 1/72 B-17C Flying Fortress USAAF Heavy Bomber Premium Model Kit WP17212”. I have NO IDEA as to this kit’s quality or accuracy (though my hunch is that it is a new mold from a new kit maker). I also infer that you would be as keen as I am to learn more, which is why I include it here. For that matter, would one be able to backdate the Revell Germany B-17F kit to a model of a -D, a -C, or a -B (working backward through history)? I discount Academy’s kits as too simplified in detail, and possibly even completely outdated as compared to the competition. If this new possibility proves empty (maybe Wolfpack licensed the Academy kits to market to eastern Europe. NOTE: shortly after writing that, this entry in a model kit retail website reads: “B-17F Flying Fortress Academy Hobby Model Kit ‘Memphis Belle’, Russian Lang[uage] SEALED”; some of the text on the box cover is in Cyrillic. These suggest that my surmise of the Wolfpack 1:72nd-scale B-17C kit immediately above is highly unlikely. To resume, perhaps one of sufficient skill and means could fashion of an Academy early B-17 model a mold master for casting a resin substitution of 1) the vertical stabiliser prior to the Boeing engineers and designers adding to the fore of the fin a long, sloping fairing (which I describe as generally reminiscent in shape of the left two-thirds or so of a bell curve), which extended forward along the fuselage’s dorsal center-line to the horizontal transparency of the radioman’s station, and partially covering the turtle deck; and 2) casting a replacement turtle deck minus this vertical stabiliser fairing. As I see it, one ought to make them in round seven scales, to encompass all the available kits: a) 1:32 and b) 1:48, for Hong Kong Models B-17E kit in those ratios (if the latter offering fit the Revell-Monogram kits, that would be a bonus); c) 1:64 for the Lindberg B-17G kit (timeworn as it is, its general shape seems serviceable; it likely would require other backdating modifications, as well as some other upgrades; I must note that in this scale or smaller, concerns for panel lines, “rivets”, etc., are asCSon a gnat); d) 1:72 for Revell AG’s B-17F kit (it also may require other backdating modifications; also, the new Wolfpack kit may obviate this labour-intense necessity altogether); e) 1:96, for the InAir B-17F kit; f) 1:100, for the NewRay B-17G kit; g) 1:144 for Minicraft’s kit. (I also had built a B-17G miniature in 1:200th- or 1:240th-scale, though I have been unable to track it down to be certain.) The new (so I infer) Wolfpack 1:72nd-scale Boeing B-17C Flying Fortress USAAF Heavy Bomber Premium Model Kit (WP17212), if it indeed is a new mold from a new company (as by now seems likely), we may not have to go through all these machinations in 1:72nd-scale, trying to work with the older, simpler Academy -D, - C, or -B kits. Some of the projects I have in mind would be multi-model displays I describe as a “forced perspective aerial (airborne, in-flight) diorama” that incorporates several kits of an aircraft in different scales positioned in descending order, with the smaller replicas just behind one that is immediately larger: 1:32nd, 1:48th, 1:64th, 1:72nd, 1:96th, 1:100th, 1:144th, and on (some displays start at 1:24th-scale [Airfix, aTrumpeter], whilst others might end at 1:200th-scale or smaller). The larger-sized replicas veritably cry out for super-detailing, whilst the smaller miniatures urgently require it for deeper verisimilitude. In addition to the usual, motors spin the propellers, crew figures occupy their assigned stations, the flight controls canted to pitch or roll the aeroplane.

Hi David, I can tell you from my own experience that the Airfix B-17G is slightly better than the Revell kit, but part of this is because Airfix copied a lot of the Revell design. Also the nose bubble is the wrong shape and the Cockpit is too narrow. It took me a bit to figure this out, as something with the general shape was just bothering me, something was off. Revell offers a lot of options with their kits, with Airfix you can only build a late style B-17G. So with the Revell kit you get different noses and other parts, so you are more free to build a specific type of B-17F. I cannot remember the modelers name, but he successfully converted the Airfix kit into a Pacific themed B-17E, he made several posts about it on his website. I have not yet built any of the HK Models B-17 kits, but I'd really love to build one of their 1:48 F models and turn this into an E. I've also considered building the Revell 1:48 B-17F (again) and converting that into an E model. With either kit it would be quite a bit of work to pull off, as the windows need to be modified in the nose section, and the most difficult part would be finding a new nose that's a lot shorter than the F and G variants. I have mostly figured out how to do this, but some of the process would involve a vac-forming machine, and a vinyl cutter. I've got a cutter, but I'd need a vac-form machine.

TOS style is basically smooth lighter gray and dark gray hull, orange buzzard collector, and dark gray being used on the ends of the nacelle and impulse drive. What you have created is is from the The Motion picture era. Where the ships were brighter and had aztecing and the ships were more areodynamic. But thats okay. Still good job
