We believe Marshall has established itself as the name behind the ultimate rock amp. But what is the best Marshall ever? Should it be vintage or modern? Master Volume or non-Master Volume? Real vintage or a modern amp? Rectifier tube vs. silicon diodes? 50 or 100 watts? What’s better?
In this episode, we’ll focus on 50-watt contestants only:
Thomas’ favorite rock amp is his 1969 50-watt “Plexi” Marshall, loaded with 5881 tubes. Joining him again is Manuel Bastian, whose favorite Marshall is his 1967 Plexi with a JMP faceplate, rectifier tube, and EL34 tubes. We’ll compare these amps and also pit them against a modern 50-watt Friedman BE and, of course, the AMP1 Mercury and AMPX. Thomas plans to continue this series with his 1968 Plexi and the new Friedman Plexi.
We will explore the differences in various designs and technologies and how they affect tone. Additionally, Manuel will bring the new IK Multimedia ToneX, so we can get his feedback and discuss its merits and the stakes with the latest modeling technology.

This was the most rewarding Episode to me. Killer people, killer sounds, killer playing. If Manuels JTM50 ends up in the ampx, I will buy one although I'm super satisfied with my Mercury.

Great demo of the stuff used, I enjoyed the into jam and hooked in with my own current rig flawlessly in the playing style and competency...my sound was your 3rd cousin without any doubt, I'm using a semi with humbuckers as standard and my personalised GT-1 tones -and my tubes were smoking too,- the tonex gadget is nice, but too restrictive for live use in my opinion at that size with it's limited e.q. and tonal sculpting control, you only get one shot at it is all at the capture point by the looks and sounds of it? -thank you both for the great demonstration! fantastic stuff!!!!!!!!! 🔥....btw I run my little puppy with a pair of original Boss FA-1's as the magic sauce on my signal chain into a pair of full range cabs.....heaven exits!

Hi Thomas, great playing in the intro jam from both you guys. I remember the Giesskanne being flooded back when I was a student in Saarbrücken in the 80’s. They had to rescue the Grand Piano in a rush. Those were the days. Do you have news about the 1 Control yet ? I’ve preordered one and can’t wait to try it out. Cheers and all the best from Luxembourg

Another entertaining episode. I always really like the relaxed atmosphere and 10 points for Manuel Bastian as a guest. Even if you two nerds had spent 2 hours longer looking for the ideal guitar-amp connection, the result would probably be the same. No solution but recommendations. What did you play at the beginning? It sounds great.

On my 50 watts Marshall it was: Presence 8 Bass full Mids full Treble zero Gain full 😂😊😊😂

Den wirst Du kaufen müssen. Alles AMP1 Sounds sind aber drin. Du wirst den 50 Watt Plexi spielen können, aber dann kommen Störgeräusche. So kannst Du mit deiner Gitarren und Setup in Ruhe ausprobieren ob du das Teil wirklich willst.

@@BluGuitar but the trick of this is use diffrent speaker and cabinets and speaker cables you can get very colour full tones but the best speaker cable is your 6m cable it smoothed out a bit the shrill highs and give some extra mids
Me, in my opinion, like Amps dad mäek kään Problems! So I sold all mein ENGL Verstärker änd mei 3 MARSHALLs only dien als Dekoration in my Gitarrenschule. So In se Band Ei spiel nur noch AMP-1 with analogen Pedalen davor...
