Hi Thomas, got the Mercury in March just before the shit happened. I play it every day. It's replacing my 2 amp setup ( Engl Retrotube 50 and Fuchs Overdrive Supreme ) and I like it so much. Your Tone Academy is great. Keeps us going through gigless times. Thanks for that. Did you play the Saarbrücken Studentenwohnheim, you know, the red, blue and green towers in the 80's ? I saw a band there and they played Highway Star by you know whom. Bass, drums and two guitar players, one of which was a lady. Both sported an Ibanez Strat, which I happened to play also at the time ( natural finish ). Also, I had your daddy as a professor in educational sciences, the famous "pädagogisches Begleitstudium" and once he told us : " Mein Sohn will gerade Weltmeister im Gitarrespielen werden." I had to chuckle, the more so today as obviously you've achieved that goal. Rock On

That’s a funny story! Especially about my dad... he’s quite a character, as you know. I played many gigs- also at the Uni , but can’t remember that one... ;-)

Moin Moin wenn man es nur hören würde, dann würde ich nicht meinen, dass es eine Strat ist, der Sound ist so fett....und immer wieder eine Freude, den Grossmeister pers. THOMAS BLUG spielen zu hören. Der Thomas ist echt n feinen Jung. Viele liebe Grüße Thorsten

Catching up on previous episodes and I have to agree about the Replex. Absolutely glorious! None of the modern pedals can do that, in fact I haven't heard anything like it since a band mate had an old Space Echo. Fabulous modulation and tone.

Yeah, it that combination of flutter, tube preamp saturation and tape saturation that I know from the old tube tape delays that gas always fascinated me. That’s in the replex… at least 99% (and without hum !)

Super Stream ! Das mit dem Schulband Audio finde ich sehr cool. Ist doch schön zu hören, welche Entwicklung man mit Fleiß und Engagement gemacht hat. Ich hatte letztens mein erstes Konzert von 1979 auf Kassette gehört. Karl mei Droppe! Ich stand mit einer 30 Watt Novanex Transe auf der Bühne. Es klang so Scheiße....😉

Re: the modulation on delay- Belle Epoch from Catlinbread does a good job- the Strymon Timeline does a great job (ask Andy Timmons) and a Deluxe Memory Man (again- ask Andy Timmons). Andy is the other artist that really, really knows how to add a delay to make a much larger sound without it getting in the way.

Hatte im letzten Jahrtausend mal geübt... Davon zehre ich heute noch! Es glaubt mir keiner, wenn ich sage, dass ich schon Jahre weniger die Gitarre in der Hand habe als jeder Hobbygitarrist... Aber das ist ja gar nicht schlimm! Denn die Musik und die Ideen sind immer präsent. Und das auch noch unverkrampft, weil ich mir keine Gedanken mehr mache, sondern einfach nur spiele. Das macht Spaß!!!

Was einmal sitzt, das bleibt einem weitestgehend.Ich hätte Mal 6 Jahre Spielpause und die Riffs von damals gingen ganz einfach, da habe ich mich gewundert. Vielleicht ist das wie beim Fahrrad. Ich hatte auch Mal irgendwelche Sachen vergessen, wusste aber noch wie ich sie Finger bewegt hab und konnte das wieder rekonstruieren. Ich denke auch man muss da locker rangehen. Steve Lukather von Toto meint , es gibt auf KZread 7 jährige Kinder, die schneller schreddern als er. Ist ihm aber Latte.

Thomas you need to try the Catalinbread Epoch Deluxe. The deluxe is way ahead of the standard size one.

thomas , I am really great fan since you produced amp 1 . Also , I wonder why your strat with single coils pickups doesn't hum when turn on to high gain channel . Also , can you show us how to make and install a dummy coil in single coils guitar

Check on one of the earlier episodes: here I showed some insights. Okay I didn’t show all the details, but basically it is an extra coil (single coil with no magnets) or half a humbucker on phase reverse with a bypass switch... maybe I do a totally detailed episode one day...

What you are doing here, playing dynamicaly with your whole body, is something i miss in modern guitar playing. I mean there are thousands of thousand astonishing guitarist, even here on YT, that play everything and the most complex and virtuosic things without even one mistake. But................................. none of them has any "soul" in his playing! They are totally sacrificing perfection to dynamics.

Groove and dynamic are so important. Using your whole body helps and is so much fun. Even in a classical orchestra the soloist is using his body... ;-)

Man muss es mal real sehen, es gibt sehr viele prominente und durchaus großartige Gitarristen, die aber lange und bei Weitem nicht das spielerische Niveau von Thomas erreichen. Also darf man zu Thomas auch Künstler sagen, ein Prädikat was oft ja auch Schlagerstars für sich in Anspruch nehmen. Ich will damit aber nichts Grundsätzliches gegen Schlager sagen, das ist OK, wenn es Leute mögen und manche Schlager sind ja auch nicht schlecht. Auch einfache Musik muss nicht schlecht sein, bei Thomas reden wir aber von einem Gitarrenvirtuosen, der spielen kann wie der Leibhaftige, der aber sein Wissen gerne weitergibt und wenn man es leider nur zum Wohnzimmerhobbygitarristen geschafft hat, guckt der Thomas einen auch nicht schief an. Mein Traum wäre, einmal mit ihm auf dem Wilhelmshavener Rathausplatz abzurocken, Leider kann ich wegen einer Gelenkgeschichte kein professioneller Musiker werden, also wenn man ständig spielen muss. Aber für 1 bis 2 Songs würde es gehen. Wenn dann noch Udo Lindenberg und Hannes Bauer dazukommen, ahhhhh träum......also keep on rockin and rollin Thorsten

Ach so, ich muss noch was zum Besten geben. Ich bin weiter über 40 Jahre Fan von Gltarrenmusik. Und ich habe so viele Leute gesehen und gehört. Dann habe mal festgestellt, dass es Gitarristen gibt, die wahnsinnig schnell spielen können, aber deren Spiel kalt und steril klingt, wo kein Funke überspringt und dass es Im Gegensatz dazu Langsamspieler gibt, die einem mit 3 Noten das Genick brechen und wohlige Schauer über den Rücken jagen, so z.B. Paul Kossof von Free, RIP., Leslie West RIP, David Gilmour........Grundsätzlich finde ich aber auch gekonntes Shredding geil.......so zum Thema, der Thomas vereint alles, oldschool modern vielseitig, Hammer und Respekt to the one and only Stratking himself, the great Grandmaster of Guitar, Thomas Blug. Carry on carry on, always carry on
