@@simmiedavissimmiesings8185 depends on horse n life style or work they did. Mine was a stud at a PMU farm in Canada. He has the good life of leisure with me for 8 yrs. He gets the very best of everything. I've heard some can live till 36 plus years!

I am autistic and struggle to express emotions. I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve cried in the last 10 years (I’m 34)…… I cried for Keeper. Thank you for helping him feel a little better. I know he is going to know nothing but love from now on. I adore horses but I’m not in the position to be able to have one, but if my circumstances were different, I would have one of these gentle giants in a heartbeat. Instead, I have 2 rescue dogs. One I’ve had for 6 years, and she still has severe anxiety and suffered from PTSD. The other is only a year old, and thankfully young enough to bounce back. I’ve only had her 5 weeks and can already see such a difference. I don’t know how people can be so cruel as to mistreat animals. They are so pure and innocent. Greetings from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Dear Charlotte, Your comment made my day, week, month and year! Thank you for sharing, and I know others will respond enthusiastically and lovingly to your comment and connect with your vulnerability and authenticity. I know I do. You are so generous to bring in 2 rescues and give them a home and love. What are the names of your dogs? Please share if you can. It sounds like you are a natural healer with animals, as you mentioned the new dog is already responding to your love and touch. My advice is keep massaging them and working on their muscles. You will learn a lot. You will learn all their favorite places, and also look for all the places that feel tight and rigid. You can hold these spots gently. You don't need to rub the tender spots. Simply push with your fingertips with the amount of pressure that you could push into a grape and not crush the grape. Then find a new "grape". If you do this every day, it will also help both you and the dogs with making them feel calm. Every day. I hope to visit Scotland one day in the future, and maybe we can meet, and go visit some horses together. Let me know how you do, and don't forget to tell us the names. Thank you for making me cry on a Monday morning. That poor noble soul. He has worked tirelessly all his life and all he got was cruelty and abuse. Why are people like this?

I am a fairly new horse owner and can’t image doing this to a horse. I got a 7 month old colt from a kill farm. He is my sons non human best friend. Thanks for what you do 🙏 Blessings

What is worse than this is that Keeper's former owner must have replaced him with a younger horse. That horse is now suffering the same abuse!

I shake my own head many people I know personally always say "they just horses they strong" I also tell them horses are fragile animals they need lots of care, up keep last they should not be treated in cruel manners keeper is a sweet horse whoever has that other horse should be checked on.

We need to pass laws that will prevent this type of abuse. But the people that make money off of them, including the slaughtering of them, will fight against it. This is one of the reasons I'm vegan!

@@keychain3039 Religion doesn’t protect you from animal abuse & I’m sure most Amish people take very good care of their animals, particularly since they depend on them so much. Unfortunately, there are some bad people in every part of society & many of those are cruel to animals because they’re less protected than humans.

They actually recognise animals as sentient beings who deserve basic rights. Definitely a good starting place for the rest of the world to follow from “In an Australian first, animals have now been recognised as sentient beings in law, with the Animal Welfare Legislation Amendment Bill 2019 passed by the ACT Legislative Assembly today. "These new laws will make the ACT a national leader in animal welfare, and reflects a zero tolerance approach to animal cruelty," Minister for City Services Chris Steel said. "Modern animal welfare is about considering how an animal is coping both mentally and physically with the conditions in which it lives. "For the first time under law we are recognising the science, that animals are sentient, and they feel emotion and pain. I agree, he does deserve the best.

His bottom lip is hanging from nerve damage from having a bit in his mouth, and there is probably some paralysis in there. Poor sweetheart. Drafts are known, for sure, as gentle giants. God bless you for doing this work! And may God bless and watch over him and may he have a happy rest of his life.

You can tell by his demeanor that he's not used to people doing good things for him. He's learning to say thank you. He's learning that people can be nice. That look at the end of his session was so profound. He's grateful and that speaks volumes.❤

Keeper has learned to be very stoic; what choice did he have? Years of working in pain have shown him that there isn’t much more he can expect. With time and love, Keeper’s spirit will recover as will his poor abused body. Thank you for helping Keeper.

I was on the back of a horse from the time I was four years old. Unfortunately the cruelty of man no longer surprises me, animals have feelings, they can and do feel as well as give love. Please support kindness, courage and love for all in the animal kingdom, even mankind.

Oh Keeper, what a beautiful horse you are! It's heartwarming to see so many good ppl helping you back to health. Just get well Keeper, I'm sending my heartfelt blessings to you and the whole team ❤️

Whoever did all of that to Keeper should be prosecuted, heavily fined and jailed for animal cruelty!!! There is absolutely NO excuse for so severely abusing an animal like that!! That’s what got me bawling, poor baby was so resigned to pain he doesn’t even react well to relief, like he wasn’t even sure how to process it. Yet he trusts the humans, stays stoic and endures 😢😢😢

I am so glad you were there to rescue him. I grew up around Belgians. They are truly gentle giants. Thank you. My Uncle had a team of drafts and they never looked like this. He would've been appalled. They worked for him they were never over worked. They were well cared for, you could even say pampered.

Bless you for working with Keeper. Watching his reactions to the adjustments, it looks like he was been in pain and neglected for so long, he doesn't know how to react when he gets relief. It lifts my heart to watch you with him.

Poor old fellow is so accustomed to being uncomfortable, that he’s completely stoic, non reactive. Heartbreaking. 💔

What a beautiful, yet stoic horse. One thing I noticed, he is ears pointed up like “I am so great” whenever the camera was directly going for full frontal. He wears his scars with honor. In another year, he will be astounding. He also loved all the attention you were giving him. He was an almost near perfect patient. The last scene as you patted and kissed him was a true photo op. 💕💕

@@AnimalCrackerDrDougWillen What would the optimum treatment schedule be for Keeper? I would think it would be ideal to work on him really once per week, than twice per month. Then observing how he's responding, reduce treatments to once per month and then to some maintenance schedule. Considering he's had a lifetime of hard work and abuse, would be great to be able to treat him everyother month for the rest of his life. What would you consider the best schedule for Keeper?? . After a bad back injury I discovered myofascial trigger point therapy. It helped me so much that I went to train and get certified in that work. While training in PA. we did learn to work on horses but not as much as I wanted to. But I eventually found an excellent chiropractor whom I would see on a weekly basis. He was so interested in what I had learned that he had me work on his patients to relax and loosen them up so his adjustments would be easier.

He's so beautiful. How shamefully he was treated! What wonderful people up at that rescue farm. I can't wait to see Keeper at his full weight and relaxed. He deserves peace and contentment.

Most of these draft horses are used and abused by the Amish as MACHINERY. Horses are NOT MACHINES. I would like to see laws passed and enforced to prevent all horses from being used as machinery! Thank you Dr. D. For all you do to help everyone you work on! You are truly a SPECIAL PERSON.

Such a sweet handsome boy. It’s honestly heartbreaking to hear/see what he has gone though. It’s disgusting that anyone would treat an animal like that. I’m glad he was rescued and is going to be loved from now on. 💕

The really sad part is how many other horses did not get rescued, that were treated just like Keeper, or worse, right here in America on American soil by Americans trying to farm traditionally. So very sad.. and if they push their animals that hard, what are they doing to themselves?

Personally what I feel from him that he is so grateful. He was well aware of what was about to happen to him and someone cared enough to save him. You can feel his love and now he is getting love. So beautiful 💚🦋

Hello Dr. ! I’m new to your channel, but when I saw a video on draft horses, I had to watch. I just retired from rescue after 35 years. I’ve seen the most horrid things that monsters do to these precious souls. Keeper is one that brought me to tears. Since I’ve walked away, I’m thinking of going to school to learn to be an animal masseuse. At 58 , wish me luck. God bless you and to the rescue that is taking wonderful care of Keeper. 💗🤗💗

What a beautiful patient horse. How people can be so indifferent to an animal’s suffering is beyond me. Keeper has been worked hard, thoughtlessly, and then sold for meat. Disgusting. But thank you to his rescuers and all the volunteers.

Such a gentle soul (both Keeper and Doug). I guess Keeper was so used to carrying pain around he tightened his whole body up. Thank you dear Dr Doug for helping all these magnificent animals. If how man treats animals is any indication of the goodness of a soul, amish and mennonites are going to h€|| for sure.

This is only the second video I've watched of Dr. Willen, and he is so dear - what a tender, kind heart he has. No wonder these animals allow him all the space he needs! It's a special treat to watch his tenderness in action, along with his expertise. In this one, what caught me was his mention of integration - letting Keeper get used to the change(s), receive it. In my healing seasons with God, He has done the same thing: allowed me time to *integrate* the healing into who He's making me, now. So gentle and kind. Sir, you are a remarkable and gifted man.l Much thanks for all you do!

Keeper is such a magnificent horse….so gentle and accepting. I can imagine how beautiful he was when he was young and his coat was shiny and his eyes were not so dark and sad. Please continue to work with him and show us how he is doing. Perhaps you can bring the light back into his eyes.

He's got such a sweet gentle demeanor, he's a lucky boy to have escaped what was supposed to be his fate. Love you doc xx

I could tell that Keeper was walking like his back left leg was tight. I'm so glad you got a lot of release for him. Whoever used to be his owner before should be turned in for animal abuse so he doesn't do this to another horse or animal. Keeper is such a sweet horse. I am so glad he is in a better place getting good care. I'm definitely going to send him love along with all the other animals at their barns.

In my opinion, that horse was in some type of wreck or accident. Draft harnesses and collars don't make wounds and giant scars.

@@elizabethjansen2684 Sores and Galling from improper fit of the collar, poorly adjusted hames, improper draft, don't create large punctures and avulsions. Wounds and scars like that, in my opinion are caused by mechanical trauma associated with some type of wreck or accident. Do ignorant people who use improper fitting tack create sores or abrasions on horses while working? Yes, certainly. My statement is about the appearance of the wounds on this particular horse. It's a great credit to the species that after experiencing said trauma, he remains calm and trusting. If only humans could do the same.

Yep. I Second that. They're right there with the person who hurt Nugget (if you haven't watched Nug's series do that now). People who hurt these defenseless animals are just the lowest of low.

@@terrietackett8964 to God made creatures. Was shocked to see the state of their animals on different shows. Hard for me to reconcile this with people claiming belief in a loving god.

as someone from Sweden where workhorses are still common both as riding horses but also for uses in different scenarios, AND as someone who loves these big, calm and gentle giants, I'm so happy to see people reaching out and helping animals in need. Also we need MORE people who learn how to massage and "crack" animals to feel better. I've been in pain for most of my adult life, and no doctors could help me, but massages and chiropractor could. You guys are heroes.

He was so gentle & such a good boy. You can tell he's had a very hard life. I'm glad they got him.

Thank you for your kind, skilled and gentle hands. Keepers brutal past is over and with loving the attention of his new caregivers I pray he will have peace and healing. Looks like he is off to a good start. It was plain to see how moved you were when you were reading his body. I would love to see a follow up and track his progress. Animals are very resilient and the body wants to heal. I can’t wait to see him smile! God Bless all you good people.

I saw the same thing... It was like when Doc put pressure on that was uncomfortable, he zoned out - He had the same "thousand-yard stare" that we folks with PTSD can get when trying to get through something triggering. To see him give a little lick near the end was amazing - He was finally starting to be present and realize that what Doc was doing was actually to help him. THAT brought the tears to me. When Doc stops periodically to connect emotionally with him, I think that really helps in cases like this.

This☝🏽he was so resigned to expecting pain, you could sense his trauma, what’s worse is he probably afraid to even react in case he ends up with more pain. Most times people who abuse the giants break their spirit in the worst way to avoid them resisting once they grow stronger.

Such a gentle and sweet horse. He deserves love and apples everyday for the rest of his life

I have tears flowing... worsen with each sign of relief of the horses body.....magic hands...

I feel so bad for him. I am dealing with my nightly witching hour. I can talk myself through most of it, but Keeper can't. You know he is very intune to his pain, but he can't convey what he needs. Thank to you Doc for giving him some relief. Some is better than none. I wish I could shoulder it for them.

It never fails to astound one that certain people who have the privilege of having working animals, do not seem to understand that common decency and good, kind treatment would not only bring them so much more from the animal, but also do so much for their own souls. Thank you Doc Willen for your great support and treatment for this lovely boy. And, of course, what a blessing the Rescue Organisation is .

Truly a gentle giant. I'm glad he's being so well taken care of, hopefully he feels better after the deep tissue massage. I wish him, you, and those caring for him all the best!

I could watch you forever. I love your energy and the relief you bring to all the beautiful animals. Horses are so majestic it's heartbreaking to know they're not honored in the manner that they deserve. We love you Keeper. I'll hold space in my heart for you and everyone that loves you. If I could start a new career I'd want to do this healing work. ❤

It's fascinating to watch how Keeper reacts to what you're doing as you loosen the fascia and shift things back. He is annoyed for some and then curious and you can see the release on his face once he realizes somethong has moved and so he can move differently. What amazing work you get to do with all these amazing organizations. Keeper is in good hands!

There is such a majesty about these beautiful Draft Horses. It's heartbreaking seeing the scars on Keeper, to be worked over and over with no thought other than as a piece of equipment instead of an amazing, loyal and loving animal is beyond me. You do marvelous things for the animals in your videos and the Rescue centre for Draft Horses is awesome ♥️♥️♥️

So beautiful and moving to see a horse still willing to trust-I used to rehab horses, until I was disabled by brain injury and trauma; I only came to fully appreciate this dignity in horses when I lost my own. Thank you for this.

I often found, with stoic horses, that the parasympathetic reflex (lick and chew) doesn’t function fully until the brachial plexus is mobilized. This even when there was no overt/palpable subluxation. I think this is related to the muscular recruitment pattern of the sucking reflex.

"Keeper" is a definite keeper. Can't believe he's gained 200 to 300 lbs already. He had to be so thin. He's a good natured horse & knows you are there to help him & not harm him. Thank you Doc for your work. Hope "Keeper" gets better every day. I ❤️ horses, they are so majestic.
