If you ever want to travel there is a donkey rescue on Crete, in Greece. Run by a Greek man and his New Zealand wife. They take in donkeys worked until they are broken, send farriers and vets out to overworked and neglected donkeys. In many ways, many of the country Greek people are dark age. No empathy. But the younger people are slowly improving. But if anyone does go to Crete on holiday, do visit. Bring them a bucket of apples, a bale of lucerne hay, a bag of horse nuts.

She’s so happy to have him. What a joyful outcome.

Poor baby! I'm so glad that he got the loving care that he needed and that Jingles came into Ben's life! 💕💕💕

I hope Jingles is OK now that Ben is independent. She did such a great job. Kudos to Jingles, the forgotten hero?

It’s sad when a mare rejects her foal (especially with a cry like that. Seriously, I’m not even his species and I wanted to immediately take care of him) but it’s always a relief when a mum can be introduced and teach them the ins and outs of being what they are.

@ Psychologymajor PTSD The only reason the mother donkey rejected her baby was because she assumed he was going to be taken away like all the others had been on the farm. This also happens to all the cows on dairy farms eventually, they learn to protect themselves from heartbreak.

Ben desperately needed a friend and a mom. Jingles needed a foal. They helped one another through a lonely time. I don't have the words to express how beautiful their bonding and mutual nurturing is.

Every creature needs love and nurture, even when all grown up we need it so mjch that we bond and stay connected as long as we get that mirraculous food for our soul and body - love in all its forms! This is a marvelous story!!! So happy Ben is fine now and YOU made it happen! Bless you!

A tough start to life down here BUT he was born in the ABSOLUTE BEST place for him to get over that hardship. Wonderful pair! Bless the substitute mom for opening her heart ❤️ and bless all the hard worker’s (caregiver’s) at the sanctuary 🕊.

The crying for his mamma nearly broke my heart. But Jingles was the best thing for him. So happy for Ben. 🐴

So glad he could imprint on a donkey and no longer the human. So glad he has a nice home and hope it isn't too overwhelming with 7000 to care for. WOW. Thank you for caring for them.

Donkeys are so understandably underrated. Cheeky little creatures. Constant entertainment and so very loving if raised well.

It was sad seeing Ben cry out for his mother and not getting to be with her. He is as adorable as they get. Glad he's doing well and others are excepting him. Thank you to all of the people that work at this sanctuary for caring for these animals.

Harvey PlantHavester 😢 It’s heartbreakingly true, although there is a small glimmer of hope being trialled up north and is producing fantastic results not just for Mother and Baby… They stagger the pregnancies, when Mum has her Baby she is allowed to keep Him/Her allowing her to rest whilst baby has the vital colostrum…. She can then make a choice whether she goes to the milk parlour or declined…… Yes all the cows come and go from this high tech milking which detects which cow has come in, cleans the udder first, takes the milk then records everything… It is absolutely amazing to watch and will even detect a new Mum and goes through the motion, but not take her milk… The farmer was reluctant and sceptical but his daughter pushed him to have it… Not only has there been a significant change in the whole herd but it’s producing more milk… Everything that happens, happens when the cow decides it will happen.. The female calf’s will join the herd and the males are sold, but only when they come of age, although they are now considering keeping good quality males who can eventually start to make more babies….. This has to be the way forward with Animal Welfare coming before profit….. Maybe we will get it right, God Willing🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏

Hooray for Jingles! What a good girl . She not only made Ben's life good she likely saved it! Social animals they are. Great job to this sanctuary too such good hearted people.

Awww I'm happy he got a foster mum! Rather than just being brought up by humans, which wouldn't have been able to teach him in the same way as a fellow donkey would. It was so nice to see him happily running around with Jingles :) Thank you to everyone at the Donkey Sanctuary and everyone who has donated to them!

Way to go Ben!! It was heartbreaking to hear his cries for his mommy. I’m so happy that everything turned around for him with his new mom and he grew up strong and healthy and happy.

What a beautiful looking donkey! Gorgeous boy! 😍 Agree with all the other comments ofc.. Heartbreaking hearing hin in the beginning the poor. He must have felt so scared and all alone. Imagine being born and not having your mother instantly holding you and feeding you? I'm so pleased he had a wonderful foster mum on hand (which would have been amazing for her too,) so he could grow up to be this level of happy and well adjusted. Bless his heart. Ben is so beautiful and I felt so sad for him when he was crying for his mother. 💔 Thank you Jingles for looking after Ben so well and taking him under your hoof. I'm pleased he's growing up to be a good, steady donkey and has lots of friends.

Aren’t animals wonderful? My mother supported the Sanctuary for years until she died. Love this story. Hats off to Ben and Jingles!
