    This is the only Ambassador that I am familiar with. I had a 7000 very similar to this at one time. They are beautiful little machines! - Chris

    6500 and under. Still made in Sweden and one of the most dependable and easy to work on reels. And parts available like a lot of Penn reels.

    I've got an old 5000 series from I'm guessing 1960's and as far as I know it's never been apart and was curious if servicing would be similar to this 6000?

    Believe it or not, I actually had a reel come to my shop that had automotive grease in it. And old grease at that.

    Hi I know this is a year old but my uncle just gave me his reel and I really want to teach myself how to service it. Your video is really great to follow. Can you tell me what oil, penetrating oil, and grease you use. This may sound dumb but I’m an absolute newby but are thoroughly enjoying the process! Also my reel has the opposite issue - it looks to have some dry and even rusted pieces. Can these be serviced or do they need replacing? Thanks for your videos.

    I use any brand penetrating oil including the store brands. If you want a name brand, WD-40 is that. I use Penn precision reel oil and grease. You can find these in a combination pack online and buy through many resellers. Thanks for watching and for asking - Dennis

    @@2ndChanceTackle Thanks. Appreciated. Just in relation to the last question - if the reel is void of oil and some pieces almost rusty - can they be rejuvenated with the penetrating or or will I need to purchase new pieces?

    Hey Dennis, I have a Newell 338 I just got off Ebay, its spool is very loose , how can I adjust the spool to where its tighter and how tight should it be for optimal casting?

  • @2ndChanceTackle

    @2ndChanceTackle

    The bearings on both sides have a screw driver slot. Turn the screws clockwise to tighten. Tighten it down all of the way and then back it off about 1/4 to 1/2 turn to set the right tension for casting - Dennis

    Can I use dawn dish soap to do a clean on the reel and as far as cleaning the outside what would you recommend

  • @2ndChanceTackle

    @2ndChanceTackle

    5 ай бұрын

    I do not recommend dish detergent. It is formulated to dissolve grease and rinsing down your reel with it will dissolve the greases and oils in the reel. I recommend only a fresh water bath. To clean the exterior, you can use a rod and reel cleaner. Penn makes one that I use. Thanks for asking - Dennis

    I didn't look closely but I didn't see the 2 brakes that this reel comes with, don't you use them??? Greetings from Uruguay

    I have one with the level wind. Can the level wind be removed to make a good casting reel?

  • @2ndChanceTackle

    @2ndChanceTackle

    2 ай бұрын

    You can, but it should be a good casting reel without doing that. If you want to remove the gears to improve casting. Make sure you remove the line guide and pawl as well as the plastic idler gear in the non gear side plate. Once you remove the line guide, pawl and cap, put the worm gear and shield back on the rel. That will prevent water intrusion. Keep the idler gear and other parts incase you want to restore the line guide function in the future. Those parts are expensive, so you can avoid future costs if you hold on to those parts - Dennis

    First guess is the the "E" clip is missing from the gear shaft. That holds the sleeve on and the movement could happen if it is missing - Dennis

    Have an old silver shield version. With mine I’m having extreme issues with servicing. Taken it apart 6 times now and I still get issues with reeling in. There is no line and it is well oiled, it feels like it has a fish on or the drag is high or something.

    Have you replaced the drag washer? Do you have all of the shine washers in the stack? You may be bottoming out on the gear sleeve if the washer is worn or broken - Dennis
