Absorb the Ball! - Lacrosse Shooting Tips

Want to become a better shooter??
Then let's work to MASTER the habit of Absorbing the Ball!
When a pass comes your way, it may be tempting to move your hands and stick to the ball and 'snap' at it. We want to AVOID this!
Let the ball push the head of your stick back to your ear & shoulder. 'Absorb' the ball, softly.
When you do this, it prepares your stick for a shot or pass, automatically!

Love this tip! Definitely going to use when coaching kids not to “snatch” at the ball. Love the 100lb ball analogy to visualize it

I have a question about stringing- How do nylons and shooters influence a shot? Does it give you more whip? Would a low pocket with little whip need a shooter and a high pocket with lots of whipe not need a shooing string?

That is a great questions. Shooting strings & nylons are all about "feel." Any well-strung pocket should perform adequately without any shooters. The purpose os a shooting string is to lift the ball out of the pocket as it travels through the channel, to the target. A normal "cotton" shooting string will make for a softer feel as the ball releases. A nylon shooting string will give more of a 'thud' feeling when releasing the ball. Most people use 2 straight cotton shooting strings bc that is what most people see. A higher pocket will need less shooters because the ball has less space to travel before it releases. A lower pocket can use 3 shooters for a more smooth, gradual release, or you can use one lower straight shooting string to have the ball release a bit earlier. Hope this helps!
