I'm not sure exactly what the immediate plans are, but we will be getting to the Danganronpa 3 anime relatively soon. Some things to work out though, so I'm not entirely sure what things will look like in the next rotation as far as whether we will immediately be getting into DR3, doing a bit of potential side stuff, or even something non-Danganronpa for a little while. Whatever the case may be, I really enjoyed Ultra Despair Girls and am excited to continue as we slowly but surely creep our way towards the end of this journey through Danganronpa. So yeah, not sure what will be going on immediately moving forward, but we will be getting to the anime sooner or later, so no worries if that doesn't immediately start next rotation or whatever.

Seeing Izuru and Nagito in the same vicinity in the end is so funny considering the events of DR 2

Despite the numerous complaints people have made about this game. The ending sequence really is fucking amazing.

So you missed these but behind each of the robots that you move out of the way you can find notes from each of the kids respective parents basically giving you each parents mindset on their child- Jataro’s and Kotoko’ mothers wrote their notes and masaru’s and nagisa’s were from their fathers. And then the note titled “Alien” is the last of these notes written by Monaca’s brother. You can then later find each of the children’s own dairies later on right before the final boss fight which act as a counterpart to these giving you an idea of how each child coped with their parents. (I’m sure you found these but I still thought it worth a mention.

Shark's little fanboy squeal when it showed Izuru was worth the entire playthrough, ngl. Okay honestly though, a lot of people hated on this game and I do NOT understand why. It fits in with the DR universe perfectly and I thought all of the characters were super interesting. I played this game religiously while binging Steven Universe (to the point where I can't hear the SU opening without getting flashbacks of this game), and honestly it was some of the best hours of my life lol I'm not usually big on 100%ing games, but for DR? I 100% all of them, and I wish I could do it all over again tbh. Thanks for playing this game Shark. I'm so hyped for the next part of the DR story, but I also don't mind waiting a little because I'd rather we have this series for as long as possible. Awesome playthrough, man.

I mean, the themes can be a bit much for some people, and the parts of the game where it tries to actually be a game aren't great. Whenever the game is a VN/cutscene/anime though, it's some of the better storytelling of the series, which is saying quite a bit to be honest.

It's really just because people find the themes hard to swallow, and most people hate how they presented Kotoko's trauma through a tentacle machine, as well as not enjoying the physical gameplay

For the final fight, you were supposed to constantly shoot Big Bang Monokuma’s eye with the corresponding Truth Bullet according to its eye color. Break when it’s blue, Paralyze when it’s Yellow, Burn when it’s Red.

The final boss battle was easy and you can do it with no damage even for Toko. Yes, you need to fire the right colour bullets but you had to target the eye while for example when the Boss was doing its charge you didn't target the eye. Also you could miss the damage from the electric floor if you did stand in the yellow circle that always shows up.

I gotta say this game surpassed my expectations from being a simple spin-off game to one of the best stories in the DGR franchise

Oh yeah, i completely forgot that Nagito deadass would groom Monaca into becoming his ideal type of woman if he wasn't captured. What a perfect messed up detail to cap off this amazing clusterfuck of a game.

I'm glad you found the Warriors of Hope's memoirs, but sadly it seems you missed the parents' memoirs. They end up by the robots of the different kids that move out of the way. You get to read the thoughts of the kids' parents, and what they thought of their kids. It's incredibly messed up and really paints a picture of how these poor kids were treated, even if we probably have a strong idea by this point.

This game was awesome, I fully understand complaints about the gameplay but I still enjoyed it to be honest. The story of course is what shines the most, even by Danganronpa standards this game is dark, but that allows for an even more gripping narrative. The other characters and their stories, the plot twists and how it takes full advantage of setups from DR 1 and makes itself even greater by setting stuff up for DR 2 (The Shirokuma and Kurokuma Alter Ego reveal is God tier in my opinion.) All while still making it's own narrative about Komaru and Toko. They just keep managing to surprise us with the heights they can achieve and the depths they're able to go to. Glad you enjoyed it Shark and I was glad to be along for it. P.S. This is in line with what others are saying, after you move the robots, there's memoirs at their feet by the respective kids parents, no spoilers obviously, but... It explains a lot.

Overall I I felt this game was underrated but it does definitely has its flaws and understand some people hating on it, I love the story,toko character development (I didn’t like toko in dr 1), komaru and tokos relationship and the ending with izuru. You are the first reactor/ lper that didn’t mind the kids in the beginning and like monaca. I’m excited for dr 3 anime reactions when that comes out even tho I agree with some of the flaws, I hope you do the sub for it. Great thumbnail 😊

That final boss definitely was not supposed to be that long, you just didn't use Genocide Jill's special moves when the Fever meter filled up all the way.

Absolutely crazy that ghosts are just... confirmed with this game. And the fact that Komaru can ACTUALLY see them! In my opinion, while funny, I would have prefered they go all in with the ghost sthick - having Komaru see and talk to ghosts all throughout the game - or cut it entirely. I think they could have portrayed the same information in a diary from Monaka's dad. Its a crime you didn't see the Warriors of Hope's parents notes. Notes from their parents. They are some of the most unsettling, disturbing writing in the game. Hearing them justify themselves... its truly disgusting. Now onto Monaka and Haiji. I'm of the personal belief that Monaka made everything sound as bad as she could, even occasionally lying (which is confirmed that she lied about some of it, as we can see in the game), to motivate you to destroy the controller (and also to cause despair). I actually think Monaka's attempt being a prank she did on the Warriors of Hope is a lie. We see in Monaka's secret room her diary before meeting Junko, and she clearly expresses suicide thoughts ("so splendid I want to die"). Personally, I'm inclined to think she was lying about it being a prank, and Junko did catch her at her lowest. Especially given that, in the pictures we see of the attempt, Monaka is holding Nagisa and Kotoko's hands, which would make it harder for her /not/ to fall when they did if she was intending to live there. I also think Monaka has clearly been abused in all of the ways the Warriors of Hope were. She even says Nagisa's catchphrase about expectations- "That's why, to meet her expectations, Monaka started making all the mister Monokuma's." Masaru - Physical Abuse. Monaka was able to trick her family into pitying her because they beat her to the point they believed she was paralyzed. She states that the reason she lied about being disabled was to survive in that house, to get them to /stop beating her./ The whole reason they never figured out she was lying, was likely because they never took her to the doctors, because they thought she became disabled from their hands, and a doctor would ask questions. So that's a check on physical abuse. Jataro - Mental Abuse & Neglect. Monaka states that the room would freeze any time she made a joke, and she was made to feel alien (corroborated with Haiji's note). She also directly states they neglected her. Not to mention, neglecting medical care (which is what allowed her to lie) is also neglect. Kotoko - Sexual Abuse. This one is the weakest case, going into more fan theory territory, but I do think it's possible, considering its confirmed thay Haiji is... well, you know. This interpretation would also justify why they mentioned such a thing so much, or even included it at all, because otherwise, its a somewhat pointless addition. Nagisa - Academic Abuse. Just like Nagisa was used by his father as an experiment, Monaka was used by the Towa Group to make money, and Junko to kickstart the tragedy. Both abuses centered on using them for their talents. There's a real argument to be made that Monaka experienced all of the other WOH's abuse. No wonder she turned out the worst of them all - her life was a nightmare! Something to also note - As we learn in the credits of the ending song, the Warriors of Hope all survived. I think this implies, at least to me, that for all her talk, Monaka couldn't actually bring herself to kill them. Also - note how she talks about them. She aquired them as a result of her disability in her mind. Because she was pitiful. To her, they were never her friends, because to her, they only liked her because she pitied her. This makes a perfect avenue for Junko to manipulate her. All Junko has to do is figure out Monaka is lying about being disabled, which, given her being the Ultimate Analyst, should be easy, and then tell her that she loves her even knowing shes not "really" pitiful. That Monaka doesn’t have to be pitiful for her to love her. Then, blammo, in Monaka's mind, Junko is the only one who loves her, who is kind to her, and not her lie. I think Monaka is... very clearly a terrifying girl, yeah, but also one who was nurtured to be this way. Even the plan to make Komaru the Successor shows how childish her thinking is. That plan is soaked in sentimentality. She wanted her sister - the only person to care for her - back. (Though, it also shows off her intellect and manipulation skills, as it was a great plan - even Haiji using Big Bang Monokuma played into it! Just imagine if Future Foundation saw a bunch of headless kids and adults using big bang Monokuma.) No wonder Monaka got so attached! In her mind, no one but Junko has ever loved her, including the Warriors of Hope. I fully blame Haiji, their dad, and Junko for how Monaka ended up. Where she'll go from here, I honestly think it's a toss up. Nagito will be intentionally cultivating her into Junko 2.0, but at the same time, he is bound to be a much less violent environment for Monaka than with her father and brother. The hint that she didn't actually kill her friends at the end of the game also makes it possible that there's some small line she couldn't bring herself to cross. Which wasn't the case for Junko; she murdered people like Mukuro and Yasuke without hesitation, after all. I think Monaka is one of the best villains in Danganronpa. Manipulative, abusive, and a product of her enviroment. She's my favorite in the whole game. (I'm not a mental health professional, but my first mom is - a therapist to be exact - and she has corroborated my analysis, agreeing with me.) I also hate the war profiteering Towa Group did. Hate the whole family, except ironically Monaka. Now onto another one of my favorite parts of the game - Shirokuma and Kurokuma (otherwise known as Junko AI!) A detail that I realized watching this is that Monaka never actually had power over Kurokuma. She would tell him to go to silent mode, and he would obey, but we saw that he could speak if he choose to in that mode. It wasn't an actual mode - she didn't have a remote - but instead, he was choosing to stay silent so that she had an illusion of power over him... when in reality, he could disobey at any time. Kurokuma representing black hope and Shirokuma white despair is also interesting, and illustrates their roles in the game. Kurokuma gave Monaka hope with the Successor plan, and Shirokuma sold out the adults relatives to the kids, so that the adults would experience the despair of seeing them tortured. White despair. Black hope. These are what Junko uses to manipulate people. Its awesome to replay the game and see how Shirokuma manipulated you the whole time, he's actually a highlight of the whole thing. I also think this whole game is a great commentary on the cycle of violence. Adults hurt the kids, so the kids hurt the adults, so the adults hurt the kids... over and over again, the cycle doesn't stop. They both feel "justified" because they were hurt. Which... makes it a perfect lead in to SDR2, timeline wise. Makoto in SDR2 decides to spare the remnants, help them, and therefore ends the cycle of violence with redeemtion and forgiveness. It also makes a great case for community/friendship. Without Touko and their friendship, Komaru would have broken the controller, after all. Friends are what save you. I have said before and I'll say again - this game has the greatest highs and the lowest lows. Definitely a mixed bag, for sure. So much good stuff in this game, so it's a real shame that people dismiss it. Also, would love ultra despair hagakure!

Great let's play. I'm glad you liked the game. Some interesting facts about the game and in general: Do you remember that at the end of DR1 in the last scene you see a monokuma gaining sentience and saying that he is hope's peak headmaster? That was Shirokuma (before he painted itself to be completely white) Also, In the last trial of DR1 you can see a huge monokuma destroying a building. That was big bang monokuma (at the time they didn’t put the clothing details). And the last boss fight (big bang monokuma) was foreshadowed by something that Junko said in the last class trial of SDR2: Junko said: "You won’t even get to experience the refreshing sensation of battling an enormous final boss". She said that as a reference to the events of this game that, by that point in time, already happened and thus she’s aware of them (since she was technically Kurokuma and Shirokuma and knows about it). And just to explain something: The boss fight againts Big Bang Monokuma lasted for so long because you were doing it wrong: During the boss fight, you were supposed to shoot at the eye with the respective bullet according to the color it switches (except for the one for the bombs). For example: You shoot with "break" when the eye is blue. When the eye switches to yellow you get some circles where Komaru can avoid the electricity so you can keep shooting it but this time with "paralyze", so in that part it isn’t necessary to use Toko at all. You mainly are supposed to use Toko when she says "Komaru, Leave it to me" (you can switch to Genocider and climb to Big bang Monokuma's head to attack it as you did) but you can also use her to avoid the scepter (if you press the buttons, she jumps in a pretty cool way to avoid them). It was a nice way to also include her in the fight. By the way, when the eye switched to red and big bang monokuma starts goes far away and starts running towards Komaru you were supposed to attack with the "burn" truth bullet not switch to Toko to avoid the impact XD. But you did pretty well even without that. And Shirokuma/Kurokuma saying "hey, hey" to Izuru multiple times was a way to mock Chiaki (one of the usual voice lines that Chiaki has in the game). It's also foreshadowing for the next entry in the franchise, the DR3 anime (that I hope you also get to cover in some way or another for the channel). It has a specific order but you can always ask the order and people will tell you. Side note: It definitely would be cool if you cool make a video(s) for Ultra Despair Girls Hagakure. Just like with Toko, it actually gives some interesting development to Hiro, introduces a very interesting character and is overall a great story. Once again, great let's play. I really enjoyed.

Man, I forgot just how fire the entire back and forth leading into the climax is. I love repetition in a story, every time it brings the Break or Not prompt back up I genuinely think it adds a lot than if it didn’t pause to do that.

man the controller sequence was done so well monaca is such an excellent troll and it goes on so long you really start to question which one IS the right choice

This is such a fantastic story, from the character development of Komaru and Toko, how well Nagito manipulated the events of the game from the very beginning, and how phenomenal a villain Monaca is, I love this game.

I would be interested in the hagakure novel! I actually never saw anyone react to it so im down to see your playthrough of it! But its not something i want done as soon as possible or anything, i think its best to go on with dangan 3 and V3 for now and if you ever wanna come back to react to the extras then im all for it! Now for a short comment about the video, UDG is really smth else and im really glad i got to experience it years ago when i did; its a breath of fresh air in the dangan franchise and the best thing about it was who we got as our main leads! Im also really glad you decided to play it; you had a lot of great commentary and insights about the characters and i feel its smth that was missing from all the dangan playthroughs of UDG. Most of the people just act shocked and disturbed and move on but its a disservice to the game to leave it at that. The warriors of hope were brilliant. Im sad to see most of them dead honestly, especially Nagisa, but im glad at least Kotoko is alive(besides monaca). I like to think she will maybe find some hope of her own now that she gets to live and have a better life:)). I cant say im interested in Danganronpa 3 since i didn't hear the best things about it but maybe ill watch your reactions to it, and try to enjoy the ride. Im most excited for you to play V3 honestly....I hope you enjoy it as much as i did. Its my favourite Dangan game now; for years THH was my favourite. Im giving the spot of No 1 to V3 for now tho:D. Ill say just this to hype it up a little - V3 is really different from what youd expect a dangan game to be -in the best ways- so try to be as open minded as possible to enjoy the various differences! Please check out Ultra Despair Hagakure, it actually lets Hiro do something. Also, after DR3, it'd be cool if you checked out the side manga for it caled Danganronpa Gaiden, (It puts focus within the Future Foundation outside of Makoto and the others)

You need to go back at some point to handover the “Hit List” to Hiroko so you can see the targets for: Toko Byakuya Hifumi Aoi (we already know, by this point in time, it was Yuta, but you still need to find the target profile sparkly thing) ((Not saying who Kameko the bug was a target for-that’s spoilers)) Trivia: Kameko is a relatively popular Japanese girl’s name that means “Turtle Child”-but for the character on the list, it’s a reference to the Japanese word for stink bug (kamemushi, turtle bug)

Definitely one of my favorite endings of the DR games. I might have criticisms of the rest of the game, but they at least nailed the ending.

This ending is so good 😍 Danganronpa has amazing stories throughout its franchise

not sure if you caught it or not, but those last three CGs in the credits are completely new as a sort of epilogue. strange, I could have sworn they drew more attention to each of them as a sort of post-credits scene, but I might just be thinking of you being able to purchase and view them in the gallery. Haiji is in despair over his plans not working. Kotoko, Nagisa, Jataro, and Masaru all survived their "executions" and are surviving together. And Monaca is back to work with a new Junko-ified hairstyle and her robots.

At Last, at long last.

I know you've already started Danganronpa 3, and the novel doesn't really have an impact on it, but Ultra Despair Hagakure is a pretty fun novel if you enjoy the type of character Hagakure is xD It's not too long from what I remember. If you really enjoy the potato that is Hagakure, it might be something fun for you to read on your own too, even if you don't make it a video.

It’s unfortunate that this game came out right before the walking sim/story sim genre really blew up. They needed a format change for the type of story they were trying to tell, but they didn’t have the resources or didn’t want to put any in to developing a lot of unique mechanics. They were stuck with a clunky shooter.

A fucking sound bug occurs at 14:20 where the sound from the robot LOOPS AND DOESN'T STOP PLAYING until 01:45:20 for some reason. Despite the great story, the game's quality itself is unfortunately jank. oof. WIsh they remastered it or smth, but probably never gonna happen at this point.

The entire last section is an absolute masterclass of manipulation. Monaca blows Junko out of the water as a villain. Also TFW you realise Junko was technically the final boss again.

Spoilers for UDG ending To this day (basically three years since I played Danganronpa) I wish there could have been a way for Komaru to have been the Ultimate Despair in a sequel or prequel to this game. The brother being the Ultimate Hope and sister being the Ultimate Despair sounds so intriguing.

Having seen both, my unpopular opinion is that you should watch the anime's despair arc in dub and the future arc in sub. Despair has more of the funnier dub lines and is mostly all returning voice actors. Future has some truly atrocious casting, and has more original characters, as well as returning ones who are recasted.
