    For some reason I fell for this bag instantly and bought it right away. Wanted something bigger than the 9L Kadet sling, and for things that's a bit too wide for it. I've been liking it, with one flaw. I don't carry a laptop so I feel all the random lumps I have in the bag. I stick a magazine in the laptop sleeve and it feels better. Might try a more elegant solution to this later, like some sort of board

    Bro me and you both - one of my all time faves. I do see what you are saying about the 'lumps' but this would be the issue with any backpack that doesn't have a lot of padding. Hence why it's so lightweight and simple. But I think the magazine solution is a good one :)

    I hate to clue you in, X-pac, and sail material in general, is pretty tuff stuff, but one thing it has never been good at is abrasion resistance. Sails tend to hard to rip trough, they have to be given what they are for, but they suck and wear out quickly when they rub against something. I would imagine the "rip stop" part of the cloth will help prevent it tearing through, but I want to see one after a year or so of rolling around in the back seat or trunk. Codura is tough as nails, but it's heavy and I wouldn't even imagine making it into sails.. X-pac is tough, and light, but has a completely different use in life.

    good to know man! x-pac is widely considered to be a top-notch material, and in my experience it's held up just fine, but maybe after a few years it wont? thanks for the knowledge

  • @david78212

    @david78212

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@Nomads.Nation x-pac is a layered manufactured material and there is bunch of different designations (x21,x50,x51 and more). I suspect the different designations react differently to abrasion resistance. I notice that a lot of companies have abruptly changed from x21 to x51 without any real reason. Look at x21 and x51, they are very different looking materials, I suspect they are very different in abrasion resistance also. One company does make backpack out of used sails, but they also put abrasion resistant material in high abrasion areas.

    Great review as always. On a technical note, your voice doesn’t sound as good as it could. You should look into more full sounding lavs (COS 11D & DPA 4060 are industry standards) or maybe a boom setup. Voice fullness & richness is often the difference between me watching for a minute & clicking away vs watching the whole video through.

    @@theonlyTavetski ohh ok. That makes more sense. Well at least you had a backup! If you want a better backup for the future, get a shotgun with a removable cable (like the Rode VideoMic NTG), a Mogami 3.5 to 3.5 audio patch cable and a C stand. Then you can boom the shotgun over him right out of frame but still keep the shotgun directly connected to the camera. That way you will have two solid audio sources in case one of them fails.

    @@Seanonyoutube ah yes, I have the shotgun mic stuck on top of the A camera, but I should start upgrading my equipment, I'm using the boya mini shotgun mic, which at the store sounded almost as good as the small one from Rhode, so I got the cheaper option because of budget constraints. That way I could do a bit of room treatment too. Im putting money away for better lights and cameras right now, but it's going to take a while to save up

  • @Seanonyoutube

    @@theonlyTavetski the most important thing with mics is proximity to talent. A $3000 mic mounted on camera a few feet away is gonna sound WORSE than your current mic brought in closer to your talent. Get yourself a C stand and a long cable, and you’ll be amazed at the sound quality difference.
