Abby Steiner. Wow! I have missed her. This is a decent start. That refrigerator she carried in the final 80 meters will get lighter. I am rooting for her. She has a lot to overcome not having raced in so long, and the depth of our women in her event (200 meters). We are stacked in the sprints. For her to finish top 3 at the trials is asking a lot. She has the talent to pull it off, though.

It's Abby and it's not asking a lot for her to finish in the top 3. Gabby Thomas is her biggest competition. Abby was the 2022 USA 200m national champion.

So Glad Abby is back, love watching her run!!! :)
Give Abby some props for running a 400 period. That distance can really put a hurt on you if you’re not totally fit, especially if you go out fast. This was just the beginning of her comeback. Guys, in addition to Abby's amazing opener, note closely what was printed on the graphic at the 4:19 mark. Femke Bol of the Netherlands has already run a 49.17 for the outdoor 400 meters, this early? Sydney McLaughlin is going to have her work cut out for her, if she wants to beat Bol, either in the 400 hurdles or the flat 400.

4:14; Shouldn't really be using Britton/Abby's outdoor 400m times vs other ppl's indoor 400m times as it's a little apples-to-oranges. With Britton running a 51.07 WL in her 1st 400m race back, really hope we get Syd, Britton, Alexis, Gabby, Abby, Shamier & Talitha race each other in the 400m at least a couple of times this year 🤞 With only really 1 spot up for grabs on the W4x4 Team in Paris alongside Syd, Athing & Britton as they hopefully go after that WR, will be interesting to see who gets that 4th spot!
@ImagineJoyy
Ай бұрын
Talitha Diggs has immense potential and has been a great consistent starter on that first leg but she might have a hard time making the final team if all the other women are healthy. Sydney, Britton, Abby, Athing, and Alexis have all run sub 49 splits and Gabby and Shamier both have faster pbs on paper-if Gabby continues training, she’ll be perfect for that second leg to replace the speed of Allyson Felix (who ran that leg for decades). The talent of the u.s. women at 400m has always been stacked but this is another level. They have a real chance at breaking the WR in the next couple of years.
@AllInTheGame01
Ай бұрын
@@ImagineJoyy There's also the South Carolina Freshman JaMeesia Ford who split 49.38 indoors & 49.80 outdoors already this year, she's one for the future who'll definitely be challenging for a spot on that 4x4 Team! Last year in Budapest w/o Syd & Athing available would've been perfect to try a team of Britton (who unfortunately got injured there), Gabby, Alexis & Rosey Effiong in the 4x4 Final!
@ImagineJoyy
Ай бұрын
@@AllInTheGame01 I’ll have to look her up, thanks! And I’m still mad at Britton’s coach for choosing to make her run all those doubles (open 400m & 400m hurdles) with very little recovery time-as little as 25 minutes for the NCAA finals. I was so impressed seeing her win both at SEC championships but got concerned by how many times she was asked to repeat that during the season on top of running the 4x400m (I believe she ran a 800m or two that season too). The demand on the body is extreme. She had just broken the indoor American record for 400m and seems like it would’ve made more sense for her to focus on that-but I’m no coach 🤷🏿.
@AllInTheGame01
Ай бұрын
@@ImagineJoyy Yeah that was a terrible decision by her coach, but he did something similar again this indoor season by making his 3 best quarter-milers in Anning, Pryce & Effiong run the 200m Final @NCAAs about 25mins after the 400m Final. They unsurprisingly finished in the Bottom 3 in the 200m Final after finishing Top 3 in the 400m Final 25mins earlier! Britton seems set to just run the 400m & 4x4 this Olympic Year - no 400mH at all thankfully! JaMeesia's a very special talent, came within 0.04s of breaking Abby's indoor 300m NCAA Record in literally her 1st race as a Freshman this year! She won the indoor 200m NCAA Title in 22.34 making her #4 all-time NCAA & fastest FR ever & split 49.38 in the indoor 4x4. Has already run 22.37 as her outdoor 200m opener, split 49.80 in her 1st outdoor 4x4 & is on course to break Allyson's U20 22.11 NR this season. Would happily take her as part of the Mixed Relay Pool to Paris for the experience as she's that good!

Watching these makes me envious of just how lucky Americans are, I live in the UK and was a sprinter back in the 90s, back then and still today we have no high school or college sports like you guys do. Just small meets where nobody shows up to watch and its all voluntary, certainly no money, scholarships or TV coverage. I did belong to a couple of clubs representing cities but you have to do everything off your own back and pay to do it, I wish so much that I had the same opportunities that they have in America with sports, it would make it so much easier to progress and result in far more high quality athletes.
Glad she is back. She has heart and is a fierce competitor.
