Abandoning The Expedition To Beat The Stormy Weather | Part 5
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Join me, Glen, a private pilot and occasional KZread cook, as I embark on an epic cross-country flight in my resto-modded 1961 Cessna 172B. In Part 5 of our series, I make the tough decision to abandon the Hope Air Expedition and fly west to dodge impending storms and low visibility.
We start our journey from Moncton Airport on a foggy Wednesday morning, facing low IFR conditions that are just about to clear. Watch as I navigate the challenges of weather, discuss the strategic split of our group of 16 aircraft, and head towards Oshawa to wait out the storm. This leg of the journey takes us from Moncton to Sherbrooke, Quebec, where I refuel and perform a critical weather briefing.
This series is not just about flying; it’s about raising awareness and funds for Hope Air, a charity providing free flights and accommodations to Canadians needing to travel for medical appointments far from home. Throughout this video, I share the unique experiences of flying patients, the emotional impact, and the importance of Hope Air’s mission.

This flight is part of the Give Hope Wings Eastern Expedition fundraiser! Our June of 2024 flight will see us stop in many communities in Eastern Canada to raise awareness for this worthy cause.
Last year 2023 we raised over $27,000 towards helping our neighbours - we made a positive difference in the lives of many.

Nice to see that people are helping out.
Such a great cause, Thanks for sharing all these videos.
There are old pilots and there are reckless pilots but there are no old reckless pilots...
I live in the USA and contributing to this wonderful group makes my heart very happy. This is truly an unselfish giving back of resources, time and energy by the pilots. Hats off to all involved!
I enjoy watching these videos for many reasons. Looking forward to the next one, Glen. Thank you.
Good call, Glen. I'd rather sit on the ground with a cautious pilot than be in the air with a risk taker. 👍

Same!
Glen - welcome to New Brunswick - Moncton area - weather. Where it might be foggy in Moncton, but ten minutes away, sunny and clear, or torrential rain. I've flown a lot over the years out of Moncton; always loved it and miss seeing that ground-view of landing and taking off. Thanks for the nostalgia! My brother was a pilot - got his glider and power through Air Cadets - and I wish he'd kept up with flying. I think he would be good for something like this (Maybe I'll suggest it to him anyway to donate or something). I hope you liked/loved your visit East and hope you come again.
You are such a an inspiration to me!! Love what you do!!! ❤❤😊
All we are say-ing, is "Give peas a chance!" ;)
Safety First. I learned that the hard way when I was 21. DON'T TAKE DUMB RISKS. Caution is important. I support any moment you take to be safe.
CYSC is my home airport, sorry I missed you! Thanks for sharing your adventures and thought process on these flights.
Thank you for helping other people, and for us to find real food.
That's twice now, that I'm craving a hot hamburger sandwich after watching Glen's videos.

His videos should come with a warning label! "Warning, content may induce hunger sensations in viewer" or something like that! 🤔😄

The Hot Turkey ones are also awesome!!!
Glad to see you keeping a clear head in stormy skies!
I like that "Hope Air" jacket that gentlemen pilot had on. ❤ The hats too!
Always happy to tag along...
I grew up not far from Sherbrooke - Stanstead PQ. Beautiful countryside and landscapes. Not many places to set down, though, unless you're on floats!!
Keep Up Your OUTSTANDING VIDEOS Sir Cheers 🍻🍻
You seem to have very modern controls in that 1961 aircraft (ie: color displays with touch screen capabiltiies). Would love to know what's still original and what's been updated in there!

He has a build series on this channel for this aircraft. Quite the upgrade from where it started!

The only original instrument is the clock and the backup alcohol compass - everything else is new. If you go back to the start of the channel a couple of years ago you can watch the entire transformation.
A lot of decision making along this trip (again) but as always stated: safety first - no comprises, flying cross country.
Out of curiosity Glen. Do you have your VFR-OTT rating? Thanks for taking us along!

I do - but there are so many restrictions on using it.
hot hamburger sandwich plate looks yummy
Are you IFR qualified? I thought you only had VFR qualification! Getting VFR is awesome.
@GlensHangar

VFR only - so is the aircraft, VFR only, until I can afford to add the final component to upgrade MVU to IFR capable.
I'm really enjoying the journey. How remote are the pick up locations for Hope Air normally?
@GlensHangar

In Northern Ontario and Quebec they can be fly in only communities.

Do you fly with a passport in case you're diverted to land in the US?
@GlensHangar

Yes - just in case, especially with a pretty long leg over the US
In an Actual Air Flight? You can't always Wait Storms Out, can you? IF it's a True Run, aren't Patients on Schedules?
@GlensHangar
3 күн бұрын
You are correct - in an actual patient scenario IFR pilots would step in to take the patient.
