Located in the south of France, stands the remanence of one of the most unique and bizarre skate spots. 'Rooler Gab', the only skatepark in history to have installed a ski lift to transport skaters from top to bottom. The downhill run was 1.2km in length with ten banked turns. Leading down to a 3000 square meter flat space that was once equipped with mini-spines and small tables.

wow this is super rad, definitely way ahead of its time. Would be sick nowadays.

Agreed! 👍
This is nuts. the coolest part has to be that the big run isn't the main event.. it takes you to a giant, secret skating utopia in the sky. insane. I can almost feel the outdoors thinking about being out there.

Such a unique place. The whole setup is just inspiring.
Someone had a vision, too bad it had to die. Glad you got to ride it
I wanted to go there when I was in Montpellier but didn't have anyone to go with and the area seemed a little sketchy for a woman to wander around solo. So glad someone's making a video about it. When I was researching it online, I couldn't find much besides a clip from the local skaters.

Thanks for the comment! It was difficult digging up the info on the place. Such a cool spot, it needs to be shared.
A ski lift used for skating in the 90s is crazy!! Super cool idea!

looks cool, these were the days. i wish people with excess money would make things like this for the community these days. People dont care anymore though, some tech millionaires could make some stuff like this, but no. They just hang on to it and buy 15 italian sports cars and 4 jets

and then use those jets to fly themselves to climate conferences where they all make plans to how to run our lives, while they still get to keep their jets...

Sweet bit of skate history, I think you meant the 'skate receasion' hit in the *late* 80s (you said early 80s)
@trumanb4758
Ай бұрын
The world-wide skate recession hit at the end of '79. By '86 it was picking up again. If you watch any of the bio vids of the bones brigade, tony alva or tony hawk, for examplethey all say this. I had my second chunk of skate years '86 - '90 and skating was booming back then.
@murtog1
Ай бұрын
@@trumanb4758 there was no 'world-wide' in skating at that time, cali-centric skaters calling a lull in local bowl and street style carving comps a 'world wide recession' for them maybe but like you mentioned there is the mid to late 80s which were HUGE
@theskateboardingcrucible
Ай бұрын
I was under the impression that it was early 80's due to the huge amounts of parks that shut during 79 onwards. It was not really until late 80s things started picking up again.
@trumanb4758

@@theskateboardingcrucible You are correct mate. Definitely the recession was the early 80s. from about mid '86 onward skating had a huge resurgence that lasted into the beginning of the '90s.
i'm french and never heard of it before this video. it's a crazy good idea, i will try to go there someday with a cruiser.

@@mulldriftyrI heard some people are wanting to clean it a bit and organize a big party around it. Also in the there were tryings to buy this piece of land but I think the family doesn't want to in the moment - and it's quite expensive around here. Btw I think the founder, Gab, has passed away a couple years ago...

Love your channel bro! Keep up the good work In the '90s early '90s us skaters pushed for what all the kids take for granted today all the skate parks that we would have killed for. And we're literally getting our skateboards stolen from police for skating on commercial /private property Viva La skate!
