Abandoned dog was starving..... for love and attention!!!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Months of loneliness could have been prevented if people had done the right thing. Luckily, her feeder finally discovered #HopeForPaws and the rest is history! We just posted more videos on our website: www.HopeForPaws.org
Both Maple and her best friend Scampi are looking for their loving forever homes! Please share their video so we can find them this home together. Our friends at Angel City Pit Bulls will handle their adoption and you can contact them directly here: www.AngelCityPits.org
This week we will celebrate our 12th. anniversary of Hope For Paws and I noticed that YOU didn't download the Hope For Paws APP yet :-)
Please go to Google Play or the App Store, search for "Hope For Paws" and don't forget to turn on the notification so you won't miss any of the amazing videos that are coming up this week - trust me, you don't want to miss any of them!
Installing the App will enable me, Loreta, JoAnn and Katie to text you every once in a while and let you know about exciting things happening here.
I will see you there ;-)

When he walked into the yard and she just became so excited to have someone just give her affection, that broke my heart and made me cry. She seems so sweet. If her previous family had any kind of love for her, how could they just leave her like that?

@@groundcontrol436385 No dog "turns." Dogs give plenty of signals before using their teeth on a human. I've got twelve years experience with Pitbulls (many of them) and not one has been dangerous to humans. Some of them are dog aggressive and many have a prey drive, like most dogs. Statistically, Pitbulls are people friendly to a fault, many are not good at being a watchdog, they have been bred to be people friendly for 170 years or more. All animals with sharp teeth are inherently dangerous, and you are clearly ignorant to the facts.

Sr Dett That is usually not the case. If they were broke but genuinely cared for her, they would’ve called a rescue or even animal control so that she wouldn’t be a stray. Instead they abandoned her. It seems more like they just didn’t want to take care of her anymore and left.

  • @88porpoise

Chris Kent I don’t know how it is in LA. But in the rural area I grew up, we had to give up a dog when we couldn’t provide the situation she needed. Nobody would accept a dog from an owner. We did eventually find someone who took her in, but we had no rush to do so. And considering the neighbour said they were “evacuated” I doubt they had much time to prepare or plan, nor is it likely to be easy to find someone to take in a Pit bull. Now I am not saying that abandoning a dog is right, it absolutely isn’t. But I don’t know if finding her a home would have been nearly as simple and straightforward of a task as you suggest.

  • @RuNescapeAiderP2PF2P

@@88porpoise I appreciate your comment. I would like to point out that this is an urban area. As much as I wan't to believe that, in urban area's, there are usually dozens of rescues, shelters or animal control lots that will take in pets. I'm not trying to say that it is easy or a simple and mundane task. I just wanted to point out the fact that if one truly cares about their pet as a living being, then they would unfortunately not resort to such a thing as abandoning it in this way. I however do not know the previous owners situation so I am speaking from my point of view.

I get so tired of hearing the pitbull slander in the world even in 2020 (Billie I know you are not slandering, this is just a mini rant on my part). We have people that still think a breed of a dog is prone to aggression. All animals, dogs, cats, rodents, and even humans can display aggression in certain situations. It is the conditions many of these dogs are placed in that will cause them to be more defensive and protective of what little they have. I have rescued dogs and cats my entire life and I have worked with kids of parents that are drug addicts and have been literally abandoned in closets. When you see a child that has been treated and neglected they act just the same as these dogs. Scared, mistrusting, skeptical.. its all the same. We have to be smart enough to know the difference between a "bad dog" and a product of deplorable conditions.

Sometimes you have a choice - your kids, or the dog? Not everyone will get to keep both. I was living in Houston after Hurricane Katrina, and I went down to the AstroDome to volunteer. Houston ASPCA was there with dozens of cages for puppies and kittens and dogs and cats, even birds!, because the AstroDome would NOT let Katrina refugees in, with their pets. That’s how I met Penny and Kelvin - Kelvin was about 11, a skinny African-American boy with his parents and his little apricot-colored teacup toy poodle, “Penny”. Kelvin was screaming and crying and wouldn’t let go of Penny, but his parents were so exhausted and terrorized by everything they had been through, they lost their temper with Kelvin and I stepped in, and said “Kelvin, look here - Mommy and Daddy need to lay down and rest and get a hot shower and some food, but you cannot take Penny in there. Will you let me take Penny, and I will take good care of her?” “Nooooo!”, Kelvin screamed and stomped his feet and Penny hung onto Kelvin for dear life, too. Finally I said, “Kelvin, look at that policeman over there - I work with him at one of the hospitals in the Medical Center (nearby), and he knows me, and he knows that I would NEVER, EVER steal your Penny away from you. But why don’t you let me take her home with me, and you go in the AstroDome with Mommy and Daddy?” Well, he didn’t want to, but finally Kelvin let me take little Penny. When I got her home, Penny got a bath and good supper, and the next day - a Sunday - I took Penny back down to the AstroDome to find Kelvin so he could see that Penny was OK. I had Penny for several months; then one day Kelvin’s dad called me, and said they had a new place to live and they wanted their Penny back. I hung up the phone, and asked Penny, “You want to go see Kelvin?” We drove out Eldridge Parkway to the apartments where Kelvin lived now, and when she saw him, Penny spun around with the zoomies, she was so happy! There are plenty of good pets who get caught in terrible situations. Hurricanes. Earthquakes. Fires. Floods. Evictions. Domestic Violence. Their owners cannot always get their pet taken care of, before reality hits. And when reality hits they’ve got to GO, NOW. I’m not saying that’s what happened here. Maybe this sweet dog’s previous owners were callous and uncaring and they didn’t care what happened to their dog. But who knows? Not all stray dogs come from unloving families. It’s a precarious existence, in many, many parts of the world. And sometimes those parts of the world aren’t as far away as you would like to think they are. Sometimes those parts of the world are just on the other side of town.......
