It's honestly really sad that Disney doesn't seem to care about their history very much. I know we technically have the Disney Archives but if they opened up a warehouse museum somewhere with old ride vehicles and animatronics instead of scrapping them they would make a lot of money.

Is it really? Or is it more so that people want to call everything iconic and have no real grasp of how much somethings might cost to actually store, maintain and keep around.....Maybe its more that fans need to stop trying to call every little thing something iconic that needs to be preserved forever, they do actually store and maintain the items that they themselves deem iconic.

Mickeys Limousine was stored north of the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World before being scrapped. When it was ordered the customizing company asked what it was to be used for and they were told primarily for display. After putting a lot of mileage on it Disney noticed that it had begun to sag in the middle. They contacted the customizer claiming that it was defective only to be told that they build primarily for display and not to be driven as much as Disney had. From then it was transported on the back of a lowboy trailer to keep its mileage down. You could also do a video on all of the ships that Disney has scraped at Walt Disney World and what happened to the original WDW Monorails.

Something worth noting about the Limo, they would've lost money on it no matter what, Limos don't really get sold all that often given they are pretty much Taxis, and it is based on a Lincoln Town Car from the 80s which were cheap to get before the 80s even ended, while yes it was customized heavily, adding the extra axle would've done little to increase its resale cost. so by the time they scraped it at most with Disney's history added to it, $20,000 to $40,000, and that's if it's in Christine condition, but given it was rotting in the Florida swamp, maybe $15,000 if they're lucky

Disney really is a soulless corporation. All of those unique pieces of Americana could be in a museum, but instead they are either gutted and repurposed, left to decay or scrapped. I am not okay with them turning the last monorail car into a Wienermobile. Put a darn Disney Museum somewhere in middle America.

I rode the double decker bus in EPCOT a few times, and I can tell you it was just marginally faster than walking. Main thing was that you could get to the other side of the World Showcase slightly faster, but with no physical effort, which was great later in the day as you grew tired. I also took one trip where we traveled between the countries in appropriate modes of transportation vs their geographical juxtapositions, as much as was possible to recreate. You could ride the boats to 4 destinations originally, and use the buses to take care of the rest. The double deckers did not really serve much purpose beyond that.

I was gonna say it’s actually the opposite! While the future of Disney may seem grim and/or rocky, I think we’re going to see Disney Decade levels of insanity as they try to handle coming back from all this mess. So is the future going to be positive and sunny? Maybe not. But interesting? I’d be willing to bet yes.

The Omnibuses are a very special part of Walt Disney World. They were exclusive to Main Street at the Magic Kingdom, but when Epcot opened in 1982, the Main Street Omnibuses were taken from the Magic Kingdoms of both Disneyland, and Walt Disney World, and given to Epcot for the World Showcase. In 1983, and 1984, Disney made a few more Omnibuses, to add to Epcot, and return the Omnibus service to Main Street. In 1985, Main Street at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World received back an Omnibus from Epcot. At that time, I was working in Main Street Operations, and one of the things we did was Main Street Vehicles. I drove the Main Street Omnibus up and down Main Street USA many times, and it was one of only two Omnibuses made in 1984. Three decades later, I purchased the 2 Omnibuses which were made in 1984, to preserve something very special, and add them to my world of Amusements Preservation, Randyland, in Wildwood New Jersey. I do not run them all the time, but they are out on the Streets giving lucky riders a very special experience, with me as the driver, just as if it were 35 years earlier, and I was back on Main Street at the Magic Kingdom. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qo2X26-vcZjXh5c.html
