My Mom and dad used to listen this ghazal and other superb classical songs by him. Habib Wali Mohammad Sahib was a hugely successful industrialist belonging to a well known business community from Indian state of Gujrat who migrated to Pakistan. Had a few textile mills too. Although he was NOT a regular professional singer but sang for his own passion and interest. He is zillion times ahead of most of the professional singers of this era despite not being aided by modern sound affects and instruments. A singer to remember for ages.😊

Habib Wali late was the first singer who sung this ghazal in early 70's, and after him Farida khanam sings in her utmost magical singing style and made this ghazal 'amr' for ever. Then it became trend that who ever sings Urdu music, he made his duty to attempt this ghazal. That's why almost all urdu/hindi singers either classic or semi classic have sung this legend ghazal. Poetry written by Pakistani poet Fayyaz Hashmi. The tune was composed by Sohail Rana in raag Yaman kalayn, an eminent composer from Pakistan. This ghazal sung by more than 200 singers from Pakistan and India Including Ustad Nusrat, Shafqat Amanat, Asha Bhosley, AR Rehman and many more. There is no any other song in the world which has sung by this much singers in history.

Habib Sahib was my nextdoor neighbor back in the 70's. I used to play with his son on their sprawling lawn. I also remember waking up listening to both him and my friend doing early morning "rayaz". He was a very nice person and a thorough gentleman. He never raised his voice on us kids when we would get unruly. Now I am missing my old home and my childhood 😢

Saw habib wali Muhammad show in Dallas,Texas some 25 yrs ago.Wonderful presentation. It was a privilege to witness the legend right in front of my eyes. Program was arranged by Talib bhai who was in charge of bringing all the successful artiste.

Mansehra Rest House is huge on a hill top overlooking a lush green vast deep valley. In 1983, we were on an exercise alongwith other officers. Beauty of the valley & magic of this Gazal while sipping tea in the verandah, would be mesmerising. Nostalgiaaa!!😍

A real man voice , he was a through gentleman and a scholar with a God given voice. A man of many qualities. I met him several times in USA and in Karachi he was impressed with my one-man show with a keyboard , but unfortunately at that time there was no 7-beat tabla taals in keyboards which we have now. Habib Wali the first singer in this song. This song was composed for the Pakistani movie Badal Aur Bizli in 1975.

The most saddest and sweetest song sung beautifully with minimum musical instruments by great Wali Muhammad. God bless him in heaven.

Did Sohail Rana composed it? Wasn’t it first sung by Habib Wali Muhammad in private and later on adopted by Sohail Rana in a trimmed version for film? In the later case the credit for the tune should be reserved for the inimitable Habib Wali Muhammad ( and perhaps his Ustad Nizam ud Din - I think that was his Ustad,s name) rather than Sohail Rana.

Surprised! This is original song. Beautiful sung. May Almighty give good health.

It's always a great experience listening the song from it's origin singer... while the others sung in their own different style. The lyrics remains always beautiful having the fragrance of lyrics of Majrooh Sahib, Sahit Saab, Kafi Azmi, Raja mehdi Ali Khan, Naqslalpuri and Shakeel Badayuni Saab. Those days have gone and what we listen... it's nothing but a torture.

After hearing arijit's version I came here I found that it is really difficult song but for arijit's version it is made more simple some core's have been skipped..

Zeeshan Soomro Lata Mangeshkar inspite of having a phenomenal voice did not have the same impact when she sang ghazals. Something was missing. Maybe the cultural background, not being a native Urdu speaker, whatever! Madam Noor Jehan, Farida Khanam, Iqbal Bano are incomparable.

Probably this is the most popular Gazal ever sung by so many prime singers. So far I found the song best sung by first Farida Khanam and then Safqat Amanat Ali, followed by others. But then, after hearing Habib Wali Mohammad Shahab I understand original is original. Also we must give due credit to the song writer Fayyaz Kasmi as well as to the composer Sohail Rana. Immortal song and this will remain popular among singers and music lovers for centuries to come, no doubt at all.

Salaam Absolutely right. All songs of that film of early 70's were super hit, one of them was "ratain thein chandani." Long time ago in 1991 I did ask him about this ghazal being sung by Fareeda Khanam Sahiba, his reply was .. what can I say!

HIS INVOLVEMENT IN GHAAZAL SINGING IS EYE CATCHING N WORTH SEEING.MOTIVATING N APPRECIABLE

No matter who is the original singer but i cant see any one other than farida khanum gave the soul to this gem of a ghazal... salute to farida ji
