A4 60007 'Sir Nigel Gresley Chimes' Over The Welsh Marches !
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
LNER A4 class No 60007 'Sir Nigel Gresley' is seen on its first full revenue earning excursion back in Express Passenger B.R blue on a Saphos Trains 'Welsh Marches Express' steam tour. The excursion started from Paignton and would head to Shrewsbury in Shropshire. The steam section would be from Bristol and it would include a return run over the hilly Welsh Marches Line.
The action is seen first from Abergavenny in Wales, where the A4 is seen approaching the foot of Llanfihangel Bank with the chime whistle being used to good affect. Just a few miles up the line and with the A4 now well into Llanfihangel Bank the Gresley masterpiece does well to haul its equivalent 15/16 coach load up the 1/82 gradient as the rain started to come down, no sanders either ! After its prolonged water stop at Hereford, we capture the A4 at Wistanstow where the loco seems to struggle after recovering from a bridge restriction near Craven Arms. The winding climb and its near 600 tonne train took another five minutes off its schedule with the excursion now running significantly late, kudos to the crew for not requesting help from the rear !
The return leg is captured first at Stapleton near Dorrington where I've had to edit the audio due to an ambulance pulling out of a side road with its sirens wailing, this pretty much obliterated some of the approach sound, so I've had to chop it out and then just go with the final 10 seconds of audio, apologies, it was either that or nothing but we felt the image was worth seeing, especially on the reverse curves. The final shot of the day was at All Stretton where the A4 is seen going well near the Summit at Church Stretton with a nice glimpse of sunlight coming through at the last second.
All in all, a good day out on the Welsh Marches Line capturing the only current working A4 class locomotive. I hope you enjoy the video.

Just thank you. Perfection and a slice of pure heaven
Great captures Liam and Phi , love the chime whistle and Gresley looks fantastic in Blue again 👍
Yesterday I watched a film on one of the Polish TV channels about the history of this locomotive and its owner - Hello from Poland 🖐🚂🚃🚞🛤
Excellent video Liam and Phil. Great days filming on the North and West Line. Wonderful selection of locations. Fantastic sounds from the A4 . Enjoyable watching. Best wishes C&A
Very nice Ralway
Excellent footage there Liam and Phil. Brilliant to see Gresley back in BR blue. And especially like the chime whistle. And looks the part with nearly match rake of Blood and Custard coaches.
Lovely shots. Very lucky with the bug box after having only just got the ambulance 🚑 out of the way!
Marvelous captures of Sir Nigel. Nice job Liam & Phil. Richard
Music to my ears.
Lovely video, that engine almost seems alive!
Simply magnificent!

Liam & Phil, A fine video. Regards, John
Super video Liam and Phil :)
Nice video great camera work as usual as always keep it up bye for now Philip
Reverse curves great. Not a fan of Pommy steam loco whistles but otherwise, a famous class of loco. Excellent videography.
The diesel was pushing up Llanfi bank! And again for the 'sound muted' clip, and the final one.

Mostly in ETH mode, if it was assisting at all it was just in notch 2 at most in the final shot

It is what it is, steam excursions have to keep to time no matter what especially on todays busy network. With excursion trains getting longer and longer with loads of 10 to even 15 coaches being rostered it's only natural that something to help the steam locomotive over difficult trackwork be provided.
Love it. Thanks. I admire the use of the dried blood and custard colour scheme for the carriages. Spirit of empire really. The dried blood of the colonised and the custard for the beneficiaries.

Thanks to the English many nations such as Australia became civilised, despite turbulent starts. We can't match the social mores of 2023 with those of 1793.

@@edmundcarew7235 Yes, well. I suppose I was a bit mean spirited but I am very aware of colonialism, being a colonial. NZ.
It's not an equivalent 15/16 coach load, the 47 will be pushing as well.

The 47 wasn't doing anything in scenes 1,3 & 4, especially the 3rd and 4th shot at Wistanstow.

What type of coal does Sir Nigel burn? Our steamers here never have such a clean exhaust even on level track!!

@@MarshSteamVideosTM let’s hope that Bittern is back soon! i’m still hoping that the NRM well wake up and push Mallard into the shop to be worked on, so she can be back in steam! I have no idea why they are so hesitant about it! They should know that if she is back in steam, the money that she would pull in? People would come from Miles to ride behind her.
