A year in the Swedish wilderness

This is our year in the swedish wilderness in pictures. You will see us work with all our different projects, building with timber, butchering, finally finish the fence around the property so the sheep wont eat our berry bushes, shoveling snow, doing the daily chores on the farm, tending the garden and taking care of the animals. Slow, hard and satisfying work.

Thank you for this lovely piece of filming. I have spent the last 30 years leading a similar life in the mountains of west Wales. Now at the age of 75 and my husband 79, we’ve had to make a big life change and move into the town. Your vlogs have given me a chance to relive my past life through yours. It is hard work looking after animals as well as all the other work that has to be done, but so satisfying being able to do all these things yourself. I hope you have the good fortune to lead a happy and fulfilling life just as we have done. Looking forward to your next film.

My Grandmother Thornton was a Hanson of Swedish descent!! Joke on her: She could turn a piece of roadkill into a gourmet meal!! As we approach another Thanksgiving, her Turkey Breadstuffing comes to memory!! Hard to believe this but the core of it was that she took the end crusts of "Wonderbread," dried it and aged it in her bread pantry. Yes those cabinets disappeared after the 1940s but my Grandmother was a holdout!! Despite my own culinary skill with bread stuffing, never equaled her Thanksgiving Turkey stuffing!! Gone now except for the Memory!! Thanks Grandma!!

I live on 75 acres in the bush of northern Ontario Canada. We get lots of snow and cold like you and the land looks similar. I am 73 and after a lifetime of doing 3 men's work my body is starting to wear down. I breed chickens, a breed I created by blending many breeds including arcana so I get coloured eggs because that gene is dominant. My chickens are much like yours or the Icelandic chickens. They come with various comb types, some have feathered feet and 5 toes, and some have head crests. I now have electricity so keep a light in the coop which keeps them laying eggs superbly even at minus 30 all through winter. You could try a solar light. I have been a chicken fancier since a small child. I also breed pure white racing Homer Pigeons which I enjoy watching fly. I also breed German Shepherd x Border Collie pups to sell. My hips back and knees are so bad now I am giving up on gardening. I love the privacy, quiet, and pure air living in the bush. I also like to see moose, bear, lynx, ruffled grouse, foxes ,etc. I live 20 km from the nearest store or other services. I love to see a young couple so motivated like you and your teamwork is very impressive. You will not be short of money for long as your views will increase dramatically and you will make a lot of money from you tube. I used to own pig and cattle farms and had my own meat processing plant. I slaughtered 20 beef and 80 pigs per week and marketed the meat wholesale and retail. My favourite part of that was making sausage, smoked hams, bacon and salami.

This film made me very homesick. Not for Sweden, but for the lifestyle. In the 1990's, we built our own log cabin, 40' x 40'. We had a goal in that we wanted everything to be from 1912 or earlier. We had no electricity, just kerocene lamps and a large (original) kitchen cookstove with the bun warmer on top. We had an original woodstove and a large stone fireplace for heat. We also had chickens, pigs, goats, sheep, a brown jersey milk cow and over 40 barn cats. All of them were feral but they got used to us...especially when it was time to milk the goats. I miss hearing the chickens in the morning, splitting wood with a large Michigan double-bit axe. We lived there for years until I wrecked my back and sadly, it all came to an end.

(Not my picture, I’m the wife) Discovered your channel by accident. Started somewhere in the middle. It transforms me into another world. Love so much that I started again at the beginning. I was raised in country with animals. Tending to them and the slaughter for food. So interesting to see you doing it. Summers were spent planting and tending the garden and picking fruit to freeze for winter. As a kid I thought boughten bread was a luxury as grandma made all our bread I lived in a three generation household. I was most fortunate to know my grandparents. I still live in the country but not on a farm. I am 77 tomorrow and look on your channel in awe as you work and struggle. Bless you and your baby coming. That will be one beautiful baby. Sharon.

Greetings from your neighbor in Denmark. I watched the first video yesterday and then af few more, and when I woke up early this morning I watched 2 more before I looked up your homepage and found out I could become a patron and support this hard and wonderful life of yours. Thank you so very much for doing this amazing job to keep the basic life, old handcrafts, and meaningful traditions alive and I'm honored you share all this with us. In Denmark we have a somehow similar family, not offgrid, but besides that, they are all into the simple and hardworking life using and keeping old farm - and building traditions alive; They have had their own TV program on DR (Danmarks Radio) for many years now called "Bonderøven" with Frank Ladegård his wife Terasa, 2 children, working horses and lofs of animals and they too started with a small handbuild house and then over many years they build a bigger house, My age, health and financial status do not allow me to start all over with an offgrid life, but I so admire those who can and do. Instead, I'm working on building a Tinyhouse (40 ft shippingcontainer) with as much secondhand materials as possible and to downsize my material needs and to live a more simple life with all my books, my dog and 4-5 cats, and hopefully a few chickens too and perhaps some rabbits ... All my best wishes to you, Tova and Mathias, and I really look forward following you in the future and last, but certainly not least, I too really really hope 2020 will be the year the next generation of Talasbuan will be secured

Enjoyable to watch. Amazing Swedish couple and their adorable little boy are showing us the real nature. The way we do not believe exists, since we are bombarded with the scenes from the city life: crime, finances (speculation) , wars, poverty. This is something that people would appreciate watching more , then watching any of the programs being forced on us most of the time. Bravo , you are having meaningful life, thank you for sharing with us. Greetings from Toronto.

Oh guys, thank you! I'm in the south East UK and haven't been able to see my 2 daughters for 5 months (they're young adults... still :o(. Your film cheered me up and made me realise that only a small number of human beings have the skills you do, to live in nature, respect it, love it and its inhabitants... thank you for this gift of beauty! If I could go somewhere 'tranquille', this is exactly how I'd like to live and I say 'well done!' and thank you for all the loving you give daily to all the living creatures around you, it really touched me deep!
