A Witty Sikh Colonel | Allama Iqbal Poem on Guru Nanak | Baang-e-Dara: 143 | Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji

A witty Sikh Colonel of BSF was posted at the border near Lahore. He was a great fan of poetry of Allama Iqbal and Baba Bulleh Shah. A Pakistani Major of Sutlej Rangers, who later retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, was counterpart of that Sikh Colonel. The Pakistani Major narrates some very interesting anecdotes about him and his India counterpart.

Lyrics of Allama Iqbal's Poem titled 'Nanak' in Baang-e-Dara about Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji:
Qoum Ne Pegham-e-Gautam Ki Zara Parwa Na Ki
Qadar Pehchani Na Apne Gohar-e-Yak-Dana Ki
Ah! Badqismat Rahe Aawaaz-e-Haq Se Be Khabar
Ghafil Apne Phal Ki Sheerini Se Hota Hai Shajar
Ashakar Uss Ne Kiya Jo Zindagi Ka Raaz Tha
Hind Ko Lekin Khayaali Falsafa Per Naaz Tha
Shama-e-Haq Se Jo Munawwar Ho Ye Woh Mehfil Na Thi
Barish-e-Rehmat Huwi, Lekin Zameen Qabil Na Thi
Aah! Shudar Ke Liye Hindustan Ghum Khana Hai
Dard-e-Insani Se Iss Basti Ka Dil Begana Hai
Barhaman (Brahmin) Sarshar Hai Ab Tak Mai-e-Pindaar Mein
Shama-e-Gautam Jal Rahi Hai Mehfil-e-Aghyaar Mein
Butkadda Phir Baad Muddat Ke Magar Roshan Huwa
Noor-e-Ibrahim Se Aazar Ka Ghar Roshan Huwa
Phirr Uthii Aakhir Sadaa Tauheed Ki Punjab Se
Hind Ko ik Mard-e-Kamil Ne Jagaaya Khawaab Se
At last again rose the voice of monotheism in Punjab
A perfect man roused Hind (India) from the dream.

Saleem Janjua. You have described your interaction with a Sikh Officer very candidly. Many other officers who had a personal interaction with officers across the borders have almost similar views. Sikh community ia otherwise quite lively and his observation about speaking Punjabi needs to be considered seriously. A very good series and please continue Brother.

Must pay tribute to Mir Bhai for his ability to narrate incidents in a way that everything , comes alive as if it is actually happening before you. An appreciable effort on the whole as it sheds light on the life of our sikh counterparts across Punjab border. Brings to fore many aspects/ideals unknown to us.

Thanks a lot for posting the video. It is heartening to note that you have readily accepted your errors and have praised an Indian Sikh officer. Sikhs are open-hearted people, who take great pride in belonging to Punjab and speaking their language. Your narration is excellent and almost made me feel like I witnessed the episodes myself.
