A Walloon Wonderland-Enjoying Sights and Treats in DINANT, BELGIUM!!

Dinant is a gorgeous, history-packed city in Belgium’s Walloon region. We spent as much of our short trip there soaking in the sights and tastes of the lovely town.
Nestled on the Meuse River, the first glimpse of the city we got is the gorgeous skyline. After taking in the wondrous sight, we headed across the Charles Degaulle Bridge. Dotted along the bridge are statues of saxophones, featured prominently here as Dinant is known for being the home of the inventor of the saxophone, Adolphe Sax.
Heading across the bridge, we next stopped at Notre Dame de Dinant, the prominent church with the pear-shaped belltower. We also went to the Citadelle de Dinant, a fortress that oversees the city with a long and significant history of the city’s fight to defend itself through the ages. Be prepared to walk up over 400 steep steps or take the cable car to the top (if it’s running that day).
We next stopped to grab an iconic Dinant treat: Couque de Dinant. These hard cakes are made of just honey and flour, and baked with different designs and shapes. Take note that these sweet treats are very hard, so do not bite into them!
We next attempted to go to the Grotte de Dinant La Merveilleuse, a unique cave system under the city that is said to be some of the most beautiful in Europe. Unfortunately, the location was closed due to Covid restrictions-we hope to return someday to get to explore this unique sight!
Our last stop included another iconic treat of Dinant-Maison Leffe to try some of the varieties of Leffe Beer. The Maison is set up as a museum to learn about the history of the beer as well as the Norbertines that created it. No great beer experience is truly finished without a taste, and Leffe not only provides a large glass of beer at the end, but some to take home as well!
We hope you are able to enjoy Dinant like we had, and we hope to return soon to explore more of the charming Walloon city.

There's actually a 3rd way to get there as well... By car. ;) You can take your car and follow the road that takes you to the top. There's an entrance there at the back of the Citadel as well where you can buy tickets. ;)

Wish we would have been able to spend more than a couple hours in Dinant. It reminds me a lot of Salzburg. Can't believe you climbed those stairs, I remember how steep they looked. Also what a sweet kitty 😺

2:13 non-functioning public transport is a Walloon tradition.
