I just love Eve Arden. My mom told me about when I met her, sort of. I was 1 or 2 and Ms. Arden was in the same supermarket as my mom. She stopped my mom and told her what a beautiful baby I was. My big claim to fame. There she was, this movie star, and she chose to tell my mom that she had a beautiful baby for no apparent reason. Later she did a show called "The Mothers In Law" and my mom and I would watch it. It was a very funny show in its day. When I see Ms Arden, I always feel warm and happy. She had a warmth on film and apparently in person too.

@@margaretlawrence3385 I do believe you had the best of intentions; but, some people think all babies are cute or maybe she was just being nice. I cannot say if I was a cute kid. Be honest, have you ever seen an ugly baby and told the parent the kid was cute? I have never thought I was good looking, I think my looks are pretty average. When people ask me what I look for in a woman, I always say the same answer, "poor eyesight". I don't understand beauty. I was invited to a beauty contest in Las Vegas (along with about 200 other people) and we got to meet all the contestants. I was about 47 at the time. I was given a free room and free food at the contest. We were asked to vote on which of these amazingly pretty young ladies was the prettiest. I found it ridiculous to ask middle aged men like me to judge these women based on the concept of looks. I understand nice and Ms Arden was nice to my mother who she didn't even know. This would have been in about 1962. Ms Arden was a movie star and she took the time to say something nice to my mother, about 25 years old dragging three kids around a supermarket. It made my moms day and I have always appreciated her kindness to my mother. I remember it everytime Ms Arden is playing on television. I apologize if I upset or offended, not my intention.

How frightening it must have been for parents in the 70's. Young people being stolen by Scientology, Jim Jones, The Family and other cults. The drugs, rampant sex and dissolution of family life. Add to that a couple of ambiguous wars and you could almost hear the foundations of the country begin to crack.

Trilby Wilby.......I don' t think that this movie's portrayal of ''hippies'' should or would represent all hippies back then! For many it was simply an excuse to grow their hair and smoke marijuana. And of course, worry their parents. ;)
