A humble haul of a few skeins I picked up on my recent trip to visit family in the US! I got a few new-to-me brands that I've been curious about.
Things I Mentioned:
+ Nomadic Yarns www.etsy.com/shop/NomadicYarn...
+ Needlepoint Junction shopneedlepointjunction.com

Hey you guys! It's good to be back after a break away :) After uploading I noticed that the way my phone recorded this, makes the colors a little off. I was considering re-recording but that would have defeated the purpose of why I recorded it like this.. haha! So I hope you don't mind and enjoy the spontaneous content :) Take care x Bethany
Hey, Bethany, don't worry about a raw upload. It's really fun once in a while when you get us something unusual which is just as fun to watch, because it's different than your usual videos. I think a lot of other people would appreciate it too :) thanks (also hard to deny that it's very therapeutic listening to Bethany speak in a quieter voice. Great for the soul and calms anxiety lol)
I used to go to a beach just north of Myrtle Beach when I was little! Small world! :) It's always interesting to see the colors and options from Hobby Lobby, as I personally don't shop there due to their discriminatory hiring, employee, and donation practices. It seems like they have more "LYS-inspired" options than Michaels or JoAnn - I've never seen yarn in a hank or anything labeled as hand-dyed at either of those chains, for example. I love that self-striping Nomadic Yarn - I'm hoping to order some when they re-stock!
I love seeing people posting more chill videos like this. I will always appreciate the work that goes into a well edited video, but I love the balance. It is great leaning into these more relaxed videos. I expect a lot of people on KZread get caught up in the mindset of “if I can’t do it perfectly curated and edited than I shouldn’t do it at all” which is so heartbreaking as a viewer. Also, as someone who lives in the US and follows a lot of international KZread knitting channels, this made me really appreciate what we have available in the US. I often think about the yarns we don’t/can’t get here and wished I was in Europe. Thanks for the haul ❤🧶🥰

🙏🏼 💗 I appreciate this!
My Aunt made my family beautiful needle point Christmas stocking's that we have used very year since my childhood and are a great memory!
You’re so lucky to have found that Shibui yarn! That company (actually American, I believe), which made some of the most luxurious yarns available, has ceased production. 😢 If you ever see it again, buy it!
For yarn that is not sock yarn but you want to use for socks, if it has a high enough twist it should be fine. If you want extra reinforcement and it does not have nylon, they sell bobbins of nylon thread or you can use mohair to hold double for toes and heels for reinforcement. Fun fact, mohair is super strong!
In the south it seems the big box stores let their yarn supplies dwindle in the summer. Hobby Lobby seems to be a little more stocked. They recently switched to only offering their brands. They used to stock certain colorways of Patons sock yarns which were amazing and not found other places. 😢
South Carolinian here, yeah our in-store yarn buying is dismal 😅The big box stores can be economical and great for beginners, but once you get the taste of high-quality fibers they tend to be disappointing. Not to mention the LYS are far and few in-between. But on the bright side we have some great online stores available to us and shipping within the US is not too bad! I love that you picked out some of Copper Corgi's yarn! I went to Gatlinburg TN last fall and picked out their specially dyed colorway for the Smokey Mountains! Glad the east coast was kind to you and you had a wonderful family vacation.
So glad you had a good trip to Hilton Head Island. I was there earlier this year as well and it feels really special. There's a very cute (but small) LYS in Bluffton, SC called Low Country Shrimp and Knits. Hopefully they're still around and you can visit the next time you make it to HHI. 😀
I love hearing about Arthur’s milestones!
Oh, you will travel again. You must! Arthur will grow and needs to go to the beach with auntie and grandma!!!!
Living in North Carolina, I can say that the history of fiber arts in the Appalachia is very rich! There are tons of local yarn stores with great selections further inland. Hope you enjoyed your trip!!!
I recently found your channel and I love it!! I am slowly watching all your videos :) I truly enjoy them. I live in Michigan and woke up made coffee and put this video on while finishing my last sleeve on a yellow sweater I’m making for fall. I just got back into knitting, I’m a beginner, I made a scarf and a throw about 15 years ago but anted to really dive into learning knitting and you have me sooooo inspired. Glad you made it to the US and back safely and can’t wait to see what you do with your WIPS and new yarn.
Such a fun haul! And it's such a small world that we share both Hilton Head and Brussels. I haven't been to Needlepoint Junction since I first went down 7 years ago now (holy cow time flies), but I'll have to stop by again next year. We usually will do a day trip to Savannah and I buy up all of the goodies the Frayed Knot has to offer.
28:49 Copper corgi hell yeah! I almost picked some up when I was browsing in cocoa village Fl
I’m really enjoying your unedited chatty videos :) great haul!
Audio was great on my end. I am not sure how you managed to come back with so few skeins of yarn but good for you! I’m glad you’re back safe and sound!
Shibui yarn is a fantastic very exclusive yarn. Your will find some wondeful tops for your yarn.
No problem with the sound or image. It was great to hear about your trip and see what you picked up.
Great to see you…
Since my two grandkids (3 & 5 years) were babies I've been making little 12 inch by 12 inch mini blankets (binkies), which they are completely attached to and take everywhere. They can't go to sleep at night without them. They each have their favorite "number one" binky, but every few months they ask me to make a new one in a favorite color of the month. Your Thick n Quick would make a fun little binky for your little guy. My favorite pattern for these minis is Speed Bumps by Sue Whitmer. It's a broken seed stitch pattern that holds up really well to lots of love and washes : )
The low-fi vibes are actually pretty relaxing and refreshing. It feels like catching up with a friend because there are no jump cuts. The yak wool looked super interesting! I'm excited to see how it knits up ❤
You look great Bethany. So glad you got time with the family and brought home some goodies. I look forward to seeing them knit up. Your travel journey will soon be a thing of the past and I am sure you’ll be going again soon. ❤
I think a chunky brioche hat would work perfectly with that wool ease yarn :) it’s lovely seeing your videos again, I hope you had a good break
Glad to see you back here! I hope you had a great time in the US! I made my very first pair of socks out of a different color of that Yarn Bee Hand dyed. They have held up through two falls/winters of semi frequent wear in boots. I have a Cargill Cowl in that same color way you have and it so soft and squishy, perfect for a ranunculus or shawl!
Great video…..but your hair!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 Such a fabulous cut and it looks so good on you 👌👌
omg when you said "sorry for the background noise" that moment I was fully turned around in my chair looking around my house hahah I thought it was happening here to me, when you laughed I had to laugh also
SC? My daughter was born in SC. My husband worked in Columbia (lived there b4 I met my husband) Charleston (lived there b4 I met my husband) and Florence. Luv Charleston. So glad u had safe journey. B proud of yarn hauls small or large for they r memories to cherish. Thanks for sharing.
Next time you come home to South Carolina visit Low Country Shrimp and Knit in Bluffton, SC very nice yarn shop 😊😊😊
I got the same exact sock yarn. 😂 The dyer lives about an hour from me.
No way! My family also lives close to hilton head and I just recently relocated to Europe after university! I hope you were able to enjoy the time with family after living far away and the southern sunshine too! (Also just wanted to say I’m a huge fan of your channel, i only started knitting a little under two years ago and watching your videos has helped me learn and try new patterns or yarns I wouldn’t have before. So thank you!!)
a very very long ago relative of mine founded hilton head island and my whole family knits so it seems so so so odd that there aren’t many options for yarn there! of course none of us are still in that area and none of us actually like william hilton because of the colonist that he is but it feels so weird to think that a place tied to my family that knits so much had so few yarn options available to you!
That rainbow yarn is gorgeous 😍!!
Love your yarn and completely understand the travel. We didn't experience anything near that but it's just too tiring to do it. You guys did great! Way better than I would have haha! Audio and video is great! You do what you need to do in this new phase of life. As a parent, no sooner seems we get used to something and something else changes, lol. Welcome back home! - Kimberly
I've only found fisherman's wool in Joann's now... also, I tried knitting the Groshawl by Fiber Tails with it... and it ate the finish off my wooden needles and splintered it so badly that I had to throw them away
The way I work at a craft store and knew that was “Coney Island” before you even said it 😅
love love that lion brand yarn color - the first scarf I ever knit was in that colorway!!
Thanks for the video, I live in the us, and unfortunately the big box stores have gone to carrying acrylic yarn, which I do not love to knit with. You are super lucky to have so many options.❤
A two color brioche cowl would be so cute with the chunky
Awesome haul! ❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Bethany, loved your haul and I am glad you’re back! Shibui knits I think was from Portland OR and they actually closed operations, so you got really lucky!

I didn’t know that! Awesome 😊
Candid, uncut Bethany is refreshing! I think sometimes all the editing of stumbling and fumbling can be too much (for any creator!). Anyway, loved you before, love ya now. I know we only get to see part of you, but I’m inspired by your love of fiber arts and your new family.
Hello from Mounds, Illinois.
Lion brand wool ease (the aran weight) is one of my favorite budget yarns and I've made my first sweater with the thick and quick ❤ love that you're getting your hands on that yarn

Awesome! Excited to try it!
Beautiful yarn and sorry about the long travel day home.
I'm cracking up because I also went to Hilton Head two weeks ago. I also went to Needlepoint Junction. And I also bought the Hilton Head Island colorway 😅💖
I love that Coney Island yarn
I modified the sable sweater to make it with thick and quick! It works up so fast but it’s also pilled and tufted so much when I wore it out in the fall 😅
I just picked up that same yarn from Hobby Lobby!
As I watched, I am Doing an Italian bind off on my Yume tee. I had an epiphany this year about my knitting. I live on the NC coast and we have far more warm months than winter weather. My woolies are not getting much wear so I am refocusing on plant fibers and summer tees.
Thanks for your shopping update. Glad you found some things to bring back and knit up. Would you mind sharing where you got the lovely cabinet behind you from?
Look at your beautiful orchid!!!

I’m so proud of her 😄
You can make holiday slipover for your boy in lion brand wool...❤
I’d love to see how that Thick & Quick yarn knits up for a wearable accessory or even a two color brioche swatch like you mentioned. I used about 50 balls (I’d not wanna talk about how expensive that was 😂) to make an 8’ x 10’ crochet rug for my living room.

I’ve used LB Thick & Quick a lot. It makes great hats. I think it would be too thick for brioche.
Make a small brioche scarf should be enough for a decent one with the lion brand
Joann’s fabric has fisherman’s wool in the US
I live in HHI! knitting is not a thing haha a new shop in Bluffton Shrimp and Knits has a nice selection and then Coastal Knitting in Beaufort! For your next US visit🤍

Lucky you! Beautiful place. And aw man!!!! So excited to hear about new stores. They didn’t come up in my search but I definitely will go next time 💗 thank you so much for the recommendations
❤
There are so many European yarn brands online from vocal knitters or podcasters, and I end up going with with hobby lobby/joann or wanting to order very expensive yarns that also have big shipping prices. 😢 I want to get more into US yarns.
Could you do a cowl with the thick and quick. One that you could quickly pull over your head if it rained or snowed?

I like that idea! I think it would work best with my limited skeins :)
Iam new to your channel and definitely subscribed! I love your yarn haul! If you are interested in more yarn with a yak base iam pretty sure badcattoo yarn from the Netherlands also sells that base and she also has some beautiful colors!

Might want to check out the controversies surrounding hobby lobby. Lots of problematic policies.
I want to make a ranunculus. How hard is it????

Not very! You should cast one on ;)
Purl Together has the Very Best "learn to brioche" videos on her channel. kzread.info/head/PLNWbWGGFfxXnsPRDnhoNO65A_qYMvmSbX We went to HH for our 22nd time in early May. We love people watching from the swings at Coligny and riding bikes...and the BEACH!
For some reason this video has a ton of ads!

Would love to know how you met your husband? And how you came to live in Belgium 😊
