A Truce To Remember

Фильм және анимация

A bit delayed with this, but hey, the Christmas vibe’s not (hopefully) over yet.
Unexpected and out of nowhere, the blast of the weapons ceased. Instead, they replaced the bloody battle with a football match. As the Holidays ended, the fun was gone and each soldier returned back to their cold trenches. The battle continued as if no peaceful Christmas were celebrated at all.
Happy Holidays & New Year~ 🎄

TWISTS IN THE HISTORICAL CONTEXT:
• Uniforms from different era | some of the helmets/headgears may not existed in 1914. They were simply not used in battle back then.
• Ottoman & the company | Ottomans, as well as Serbs, Montenegrins (& maybe more) might not made direct combat in this front*. I’m basically highlighting countries which took part in WWI before Christmas 1914.
Pls spare me if I would forget some other countries.
The Ottomans although had their own truce with ANZAC (troops from Australia & New Zealand), later in Spring 1915.
• No, they didn’t use guns to dress Christmas trees, right? (but that would be cool).

It is crazy and also incredibly sad to think about the fact that this stupid and pointless war could have ended that very day, if the officers didn't insist on the soldiers following orders. Millions of lives could have been saved. This story genuinely makes me tear up every time.

I come back to this video during December or hell near christmas just be reminded that war, nationalism, militarism, grudges, alliances and every other factor can truely just be stopped by a nice reminder of the enemy is just you. A human who has their own life, their own family who they desperately wanna see again. The holidays just remind soldiers that there is still humanity within the enemy. And that most given the chance would rather celebrate than open fire on their enemies. Good Animation Kalinin (Or kangrad). Happy Holidays if you're reading this in a future christmas day.

Actually it happened to the French units in 1915 in flanders due to mass flooding forcing both sides to abandon the trenches on Christmas Day. And in 1916 with some of the Canadian and Indian units, though it was never on the scale of 1914

As for the 1915 one, it seems it wasn't really done out of a mutual want to just celebrate the holiday and was more because of a forced leaving of the trenches and a want to not fight in the open without the safety trenches provide.

@@ZTE I just imagine both sides looking down all of his dead. If I were on their shoes, I would've asked myself, why? What was the purpose for all this men to die? The saddest thing is it was meaningless. All of that death and violence was totally unnecessary and men died because some country leaders could not talk things out. World war 1 could have been avoided or at least reduced to 1914, if the Christmas truce had reached all trenches, it's sad oficials and generals could not see that they were killing fellow humans, men and women alike. They were not demons, as some would say. And this men in December 25, 1914, realized that the ones in the other trench were not so different after all.
