A Tribute to Barry Switzer

Спорт

(RE-UPLOADED A BETTER QUALITY VERSION)
If you are a Sooner fan and don't know who Barry Switzer is then shame on you. Barry Switzer is arguably the greatest coach in the history of Oklahoma Football. This tribute was put together for a "Players Salute" to Coach Barry Switzer in August of 2005 in Houston, Texas and is available on DVD. (BUY IT!) Barry always said that Bud Wilkinson created the OU Football monster and that he just fed it. With a record of 157-29-4, 12 Conference titles, and three national championships Barry did more than feed it. Barry Switzer solidified himself as one of the all-time greats in the history of College Football. BOOMER SOONER!

I know that voice listened to it for years on KTUL TV Tulsa! Thanks Chris Lincoln for lending your voice to a great tribute and for being a great sportscaster.

I was too young to remember Switzers coaching, but he is still the man in Oklahoma. Stoops will always be in his shadow.

1971 A running back who should have won the Heisman who averaged 9.4 yards per carry gaining more than 1657 yards...and a wide receiver who averaged more than 30 yards per catch...at an offense that broke national records that will never be broken...and a coach who was not only a great recruiter..maybe the best that ever was...but a coach who in reality was truly an offensive genius. I was blessed to have witnessed it all.

Barry revived a dormant OU program with a little help from Mckenzie and Fairbanks. The teams of 73, 74 and 75 were the envy of all other programs in the country. It's amazing how one university could have four coaches with as much success as the Sooners. Switzer certainly played his part in that success. He's a winner in life as well. Coach...thanks for all you've done for our state and our program.

That '73 punt return in the USC tie game is one of the greatest college football plays I've ever seen, and this is the first time I've ever seen it. I'm just floored.

Switzer was a great coach and it was a great time to be a Sooners fan. So many big games and so many wins. Switzer's 157-29-4 record was the best record in college from 1973-1988. OU fan since 1973 when I was 9 and Switzer starting out 29-0-1 before his 1st loss as a head coach spoiled me.

Ok, so the 1978 Sooners didn't win a national championship, but what they did that year, with Billy Sims winning the Heisman, and an even better defense than the '75 version, was something Sooners fans everywhere would never EVER forget, again.

If Oklahoma counted National Championships the same way Alabama does then Switzer would have 7 championships, 1 more than Bear Bryant and 2 more than Nick Saban. Switzer also won a Super Bowl.

Jimminy Christmas....I grew up in Norman watching Pruitt, Mildren, Washington, Davis, Sims and about 50 other All Americans dominate college football offensively and defensively for 10 years. These are memories I will always cherish.

Great tribute to a good and truly humble man. His response to overly displays of compliments is simply “don’t make me in to something I’m not”. He’s lent his name and efforts to many charitable causes, going out of his way to help others. There’ll never be another Switzer.

That Ohio St. game in '77 I was a week old. Mom was watching the game, but she sent my brother to our neighbors a block away. I remember the game in '17 when we went up there and got some payback for what they did to us in Norman the year before. I thought it was hilarious when Baker planted the OU flag on their field. Serves them right. What goes around comes around. That's sports for you. Football, especially. To comment about this video, Switzer overcame a lot. Will still continue to overcome obstacles God puts in his life.

Lol! I'm really getting sick of the people who're trying to put Bob Stoops on the same level as Switzer. Stoops runs a cleaner program----no doubt----but he's not anywhere near Switzer when it comes to motivational skills & relating to players. And recruiting? Don't make me laugh----Switzer got a future NFL hall-of-famer to run the wishbone for him! Haha. Oh damn it------Johnny Football just scored another touchdown against "Big Game" Bob's defense.
