A Trans-Am Inspired 1966 Ford ProTouring Mustang

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Episode 2 of my Cone Carver Series features my friend Erik Gagnon and his pro touring built patina 1966 mustang. This car was built for the sole purpose of having fun, auto-crossing and beating the hell out of this thing without having to worry about paint chips and the normal worries of having a high priced paint job on your vehicle. Erik used a bunch of parts that aren't necessarily designed to work together but with trial and error Erik has built a car that can haul ass but has enough modern suspension and interior creature comforts while keeping the originality on the outside along with a vintage race car theme.

@@315squared4 He just genuinely wants to help people, even if he isn’t selling his stuff, which is the best stuff out there on the marketplace for Mustangs for the money. I live in NorCal near Mike’s shop and he talked with my daughter and I at the Goodguys show in Pleasanton last summer for over a half hour. We’re looking for a ‘67 Coupe to work on for her to make into a handling street car and he was totally into it, throwing out suggestions and just being generous with his time.

ive literally have seen hundreds of builds of classic mustangs on you tube and in person, this one build stood out the most of all of them, bar none, gave you a thumbs up on you tube, Im so pleased to see Ive done almost exactly the same as you've done, glad to see you rave about the sniper fuel injection system, I did the same, also I did the electric assist power steering and in fact your the very first one to comment on how it works since no one has until now, glad to hear your happy with it cuz I did the same system, I did 4 link rear end with pan hard bar, Love MIke Maier products and who he is I m building a 65 fastback and a 71 mach one, we have such similar stories it really struck a nerve for me in a good way. bravo to you, coolest freaking build Ive ever seen on a stang, unfortunately mine is too nice to beat on like yours so Im jealous in that regard. I also went with 8" rear end, glad your happy with yours. again its like we built the same car in a parallel universe.

Love the build and really appreciate the granular look at it. I’ve got a 66 fastback ready to come off the rotisserie (as soon as I finish up some Maier racing rear flares) I’m wanting to do a 350 R code tribute thing with it and you’ve nailed the vibe I think I’m looking for. And I’m paying attention about that Maier panhard bar, that’s definitely going on. I’d love to have one of his rear ends but not in my budget. I’ve got a 68 firebird that I’ve been running at the track in Portland and I feel you on the power steering. I’ve been fighting those leaks for a month, literally. I just finished putting 12” 6 piston wilwoods in the front (cause that’s the biggest I can put without throwing $2k at wheels) tubular coil overs and adjustable shocks all around, apparently I’m skilled enough for that, but not skilled enough to stop a damn power steering leak. Lost two track laps in Portland and ended the Hot August Nights cruise a couple weeks ago bleeding… the only issue I’ve had in 4500 miles on this build and several hundred miles of track time…..electric steering had never occurred to me. How expensive was that peice? Thanks for posting

on mine I added a front spoiler and had a huge increase in cooling, air gets pulled down and really helped high speed stability as well, road tests back in the day would measure front end lift on tests and I can tell you this car at 100 is probably close to 300 lbs lift or more, to prove it I took out the rear pins on my Shelby hood and at 40 mph the rear of the hood would start to lift off the fender , with the spoiler on the car it stayed down tight, also going thru NC on a near 100 degree day the temp stayed perfect , not a normal thing for a stang, probably why every modern car has some kind of spoiler.

just wanted to add I owned and raced these cars for a long time from 71 thru 2003 and spent way too much time thinking on how to improve them, age and rust take their toll eventually , though mostly on me ... nice car, and get a glass hood , helps cornering, believe me I tested it.
