A Tour of the Viking Age - full documentary

Take an incredible journey through the history of the Viking age. Perfect for student studying the period. Viking - the very word epitomizes adventure and ferocity. Though not the most technologically advanced culture of their period, the Vikings nevertheless saw more of the world than virtually any other group. The very Viking spirit drove them to constantly push beyond the next horizon.

Which makes that all the more impressive. I took that line directly from John Haywood's "Northmen" book. It's not a dig at the Vikings, it's just saying despite the fact that this wasn't exactly the wealthiest or most sophisticated culture of the period, they still traveled distances that are almost super human.

@@RealCrusadesHistory Other than technologies of voyaging, Vikings also produced some of the best handicrafts and housing technologies of the era. Free peoples are usually technologically superior, for they rely on those technologies to get by when centralized bureaucracies can simply mobilize subjugated populations for state projects. If you can enslave people, you have no incentive to develop technologies. If you have to do everything yourself, then you become an inventor. Back in the Roman world, the Celts had fewer slaves and superior metallurgy than the Romans.

We need more bishops like Joscelin in the church today.

Bishop Joscelin is an awesome hero in this story. I think the Viking experience in the 9th and 10th centuries really helped militarize the Church and laid the groundwork for the Crusades. People forget how violent life was in Latin Christendom during those two tumultuous centuries, and the Vikings were the biggest cause of that in France. Often, local authorities were impotent and churchmen had to get involved in the fight. This definitely helped shape the Crusades era, I would say.

Amen. The greatest punishment Almighty God inflicts upon unfaithful people? Bad shepherds. We deserve what we have been given...and only repentance with humble prayer, by many, can/will move the Most Sacred Heart to reverse this merited punishment+. Without repentance, the next phase of righteous punishment always is: chastisements (and conquests) by enemy nations/tribes....

@@rmp7400 sacred heart? Are you referring to Jesus? If so , use Jesus name. Not some false religion Catholic made up alternative name like sacred heart. Jesus name is above all names. Every knee will bow to the name of Jesus. Not scared heart
