A Time For Tench

No species of fish in the UK signals the onset of warmer weather than the tench. Stocky and hard fighting, with teddy bear eyes and a paintbrush tail, tinca tinca holds a special place in the hearts of many anglers.
As well as making occasional videos, I also write monthly articles for the Freshwater Informer, a free angling magazine available across the South East of England, as well as in digital form @ www.freshwaterinformer.com

    What a great video Alex, Your videos capture the true feeling of what angling is all about and the exciting thing about tench fishing is its visual, when you see the bubbles fizzing infront of you, your excitement goes up a level theres nothing like it. Thanks for sharing a woderful trip.

    It is quite funny as over the last 40 years I would imagine I have caught 100s of Tench and yet can probably count on one hand the baby very small Tench I have seen or caught. I mean I love all species and sadly yes over the last 20 years carp fishing took over my life in general and it still does now I have moved here to Germany, but I love all species and the Tench will certainly remain up there with the most special, a very unique and beautiful species. Great video, really enjoyed it.

    Where I fish at times you're plagued with small 4 to 5 inch fish. I've literally caught hundreds at a time. Still can't get used to fishing lakes in the close season.

    I had a go for tench last Sunday, fished the float, in 10ft of water, with the hookbait an inch over depth ( the whole tiny pond is that deep all round ) and I had them bubbling and fizzing over my ground bait and maggots and corn but I couldn’t buy a bite from them,I had not a single twitch on the waggler. 🤣

    That sounds both frustrating and exhilarating in equal measure! Although the lake I'm fishing is nowhere near that depth, I have faced similar challenges, which is why I tend to open up my baiting pattern in an attempt to keep the fish moving for better bite indication 👍🎣🎣

    @@InTheEdgeWithAlex Yes that makes a lot of sense, and I was doing pretty much same really, plus the 10 ft depth helps as bait filters out the deeper it is, I was also hand throwing distance out which is another help in spreading too

    Fantastic fishing. Thats how it should be done! Due to personal reasons I haven't been for about a year. My local canal is showing some fine Tench (and Common Bream) at the moment but I think another couple of weeks and it'll drop away some. Thanks for 20 minutes of peace and quiet by the water seeing a good angler catching fine fish.

    @@InTheEdgeWithAlex i did some research on the subject, "sutor" means shoemaker in Latin, and apparently the sutare/tench have thick enough skin to make leather out off. So sutor turned in to sutare when meeting the swedish language I guess 🤔 😅

    Alex do you take any form of light shelter for the rain ? Trying to get some options . Even thinking of poncho tarp set up .

  • @InTheEdgeWithAlex

    @InTheEdgeWithAlex

    17 күн бұрын

    @gothicgorey I like to stay mobile and generally only fish for a few hours at a time, so just wear a lightweight waterproof smock (as per the video) rather than take any sort of shelter. That said, the Korum day shelter seems very popular, and most tackle companies do decent fishing umbrellas. I'm sure that your idea of a tarp style setup would work, i think that Wychwood might even do something along those lines 👍🎣

    @@InTheEdgeWithAlex Thanks ! I have found a shelter that’s got my interest the korum river brolly . Seems a versatile piece of kit that can be set up on uneven and flat ground. Also only weighing at 2.4kg and very compact. Currently favourite.

    Hi, The close season in the UK has not applied to stillwaters since 1995. It is still in place on rivers (15th Mar - 15th June). Obviously, it's never good practice to cast a line around spawning fish and most clubs, controlling bodies, and indeed anglers, will self impose a closed period on lakes and ponds around these times👍🎣🎣
