Epic tench fishing session on a stunning new lake

Спорт

As a new member of Farnham Angling Society I couldn't wait to try one of the many new waters available to me. It's a sunny Sunday afternoon in April and I'm on the banks of the beautiful Stockbridge Pond in Surrey.
It's an old estate lake with a good stock of tench and crucians but, as with any maiden outing on a new venue, I didn't really know what to expect and set out to fish for anything I could tempt on a waggler or handmade porcupine float.
Little did I know it would turn out to be a red letter day, as hard fighting tench kept falling to my casters throughout a special spring afternoon. With lovely scenery and plenty of action to come, sit back, relax and enjoy.

Thanks Graeme and likewise! I did manage one in the end but it was a slow day as you warned. Would love to have a fish together or another chat sometime. I’ll have to give floater fishing a go when chance too - not done any for ages. Tight lights for the 16th! 🎣

Gutted for you losing that Carp, but those Tench were absolute beauts. Very enjoyable watch, looking forward to the next.

Ahhh thanks! Glad you enjoyed and always nice to get a comment. I was gutted about the carp, too! A proper lump of a common from a water that’s not known for them. Hope you enjoy some of the other content on the channel.

A couple of my old fishing friends and one of their dads had over 100 tench on the old Diana lake in Bushey park, they got there as soon as the gates opened in the morning and had to pack up at lunchtime because they run out of bait 😂😂, stunning days fishing, another great video keep them coming 👍👍👍

Many thanks as always - really do enjoy reading your comments. A hundred tench is some red letter day and you always know you’ve had a good’un when you run out of bait. A ‘century’ of tench! That’s serious fishing 🎣

Really enjoying your sessions, especially as I’m unable to get out at the moment. Also highlights the real joys of fishing ‘ups and downs’ lost fish being one example of the latter which is as you described it ‘gutted’. Thank you so much for sharing. 👩‍🌾🙏🫶🎣🌅👍

@@themagicoffishing Hi John, Fortunately only temporarily, maybe only a couple of weeks, but your videos both encourage and gratify that deep longing to be back on the bank again. You capture the essence of fishing, which is a real gift, makes one feel that they’re right there with you experiencing those ‘ups and downs’ that are so much a part of this amazing hobby. Keep um coming. And thanks for taking the time out (your commitment and dedication!) to share the experience with fellow (esses!!) lovers of fishing and the great outdoors that captivates and draws us back to the bank. Tight lines! 👩‍🌾🫶🐟🎣🌅👍

With 30+ new waters to try out you should be busy for a while. I looked into joining Farnham a few years back, but I couldn't justify the cost as I could only get out maybe a half dozen time a year, and that was with restricted transport as well. Perhaps one day that dream can come true. Anyway, great time among the tech and nice to watch. Take care. TTFN.

Glad that bit of information I gave you made your day. I did give a little bit of applause when you had your first tinca. Any member of the Tenchfishers will help anytime we can. Try Mill Lane for much bigger tinca's.

Many thanks, Tinca Steve! You definitely helped get me off to a good start on Stockbridge and I loved the friendly advice - you can often judge a club by its members, even if us anglers are generally standup people. My tench PB is still pretty low and I’d love to try Mill Lane some time.

Hi, enjoyed the video, sad to say that since FAS added the extra carp and "Brown Goldfish", the Crucians, which were such a great part of fishing this lake appear to have vanished. The condition of the tench, although still there in great numbers, also seems to have deteriorated. At one time, not so many years ago, there were good amounts of roach and rudd to be had, which contributed to a good mixed bag. It is till a lovely place to fish though

  • @themagicoffishing

Oh man, I would have loved a few roach and rudd sprinkled in! And crucians of course. Talking to the fisheries manager recently, he said cormorants had taken many of the crucians and some of the smaller tench did have beak marks. But trying to see the positive side, that kind of predation does allow the bigger fish to keep getting bigger. Thanks for commenting.

Cheers and a fair point. I do try to do that in a few of my films but I was catching at distance in this session and trying to film a bite on a dotted down waggler at 20m - on basic gear at least - is pretty tricky. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏

Its great waggler fishing for Tench like that. I have always enjoyed that type of fishing. I think with the Tench being in the deeper water further out the Method feeder set up would have been very succesful but no where near as enjoyable. Great video m8 I really enjoyed watching you fishing.

Cheers David! Agree - method or even bomb and pellet might have scored but not as enjoyable as wag n caster. Would have liked to fish the margins but you’ve got to be where the fish want to be. Hope you enjoy some of the other vids on the channel and thanks for commenting.

Well done. Stckbridge is special. But wait till you get into the huge shoals of tench in Frensham GP. And yes to the other comments FAS is getting close to silly money unless your in a carp syndicate.

Yep, it was a treat from me to me, as I’ve admired all their waters from afar for many years now. You certainly seem to get value for money even if it’s not the cheapest of clubs. Can’t wait to try a few more places before long. Thanks for commenting.

Only trouble with Frensham Great Pond is the parking. They couldn't make you park farther away from the water unless you want to pay the parking charges as well.

Frensham has suffered badly from algae bloom the last few seasons and with all the rain we’ve had I’m sure it’s bound to happen again this season, and yes the lake was totally spoilt with the introduction of carp killed of the Crucians
