I'm starting to find that I have a growing passion for "forgotten instruments" and how to preserve them in thier original contexts. The tagelharpa is a pretty unique and yours sounds beautiful.

I'm the same. I've been making them though, mostly because I'm angered that the market is flooded with Chinese sweatshop cheapos or extremely overpriced garbage from ETSY hippies. These instruments are the heart and soul of our people, and if they aren't made by the hands of our people and imbued with the same spirit of our people, they're worthless junk. If it was some Japanese instrument people wouldn't settle for anything but made in Japan. But when it's European people just buy whatever is cheapest or sounds best. There's no loyalty extended to our own people akin to what they extend to foreigners. I suspect it's from decades of Hollywood enforced self loathing and fetishization of the other.

@@StarshipTrooper4231 What I mean by that is make them the way they would traditionally be made and play music that is similar stylistically to what people played on the specific instrument. For instance, playing a tagelharpa to space jazz er something might sound interesting but it's highly unlikely that space jazz was played on the tagelharpa way back when it was popular. Sadly though, the original context of a great number of really old or obscure instruments is unknown or pure speculation. Maybe Vikings did like space jazz 😋?

@@edwardwest200 Don't buy them. The ones on eBay are shit made in China and are incredibly low quality, or worse, overpriced garbage made by some ETSE hippy. Make your own. It's REALLY not hard. And even your first attempt will be vastly superior to the crud on the market. If you're in Australia hit me up on Twitter (@bashpr0mpt) and I'll bloody make you one if you're worried about trying it, but you shouldn't be - as I said even your worst first attempt will be better than the garbage on the market. The hardest part is finding good quality wood to bookmatch your back (and / or front) with. Watch some videos on violin making, you'll get the basics. Then go look at some historic finds of talharpa's. It's just chisel and plane work. It's actually really, really fun! I've made a bunch of ancient European instruments, mostly for fun, partly because I'm sick of my culture being ripped off by Chinese sweatshops or overpriced garbage from dirty hippies. These instruments are the heart and soul of our people, and if they aren't made by the hands of our people and imbued with the same spirit of our people, they're worthless junk.

Thank you so much Raphael! 🖤 In this video, tuning is BBF# :) But, not all tunings are good for all tagelharpa; they depend on the instrument and its characteristics. That's why, the best person you should ask about how to tune yours to obtain the best sound and performance, is your maker/seller, the only one who knows the characteristics of your instrument :)
