I lived out at Colin's place for almost 3 years out of my VW bus. Every time I'm out there, it's like an electricity storm. Both of our energy feeds off each other. Out of all the people I've met in met life, he's almost 100% always in the moment. He's guided me in life and I him. He's 82 and fucking still in it! God I love this motherfucker. There are certain people in life that help shape you. Colin has definitely guided me in many ways and still does!

Colin used to own The Australian Stocksaddle Company in California. Beautiful saddles. I own one called the Police Poly. He designed it specifically for police officers to use. They needed comfort for long shifts in the saddle. Ordered it over the phone, speaking to Colin. Best conversation ever! Then I met him in person at an equine event in Maryland. He was there with his stock saddle company. Thanked him for the most comfortable and most beautiful saddle I ever owned. Lovely gentlemen! This was almost 25 years ago. And here he is! Small world indeed!

He really is quite a fiee cracker. Tried to sell me another saddle. I settled on a gallon of "Aussie Croc Saddle Oil" A must have to keep his saddles in good condition! His words.Still have the saddle. Have been out of the croc oil for some time though. 😉 After all these years on the trail, the saddle is scratched up and banged up, but it's still as comfy as ever!

Sitting on the couch, enjoying your hobbies, has to be the most overhated activity of all time. I love watching classic cinema in 4k. I spend hours doing it, it gives me purpose, and it makes me happy. I stay healthy by running and I work enough to support my hobby. no kids for me, no car for me. As little risk as possible. I just like to enjoy my life. I'm 25, I've been in a happy relationship for 5 years, and after years of depression I've finally allowed myself to just enjoy my hobbies without guilt. I'm not failing by not "maximizing my potential" or "furthering my career". I've found what makes me happy and I'll stick to it. Nobody will ever convince me to sacrifice my happiness for a job. I will work enough to survive and fund my humble lifestyle, and not 1 minute more. I reject the grind.

Youre young so you have that going for you. There’s a lot to be said for people who DONT enjoy getting out there and taking risks. If you’re older it’s because you already have and it’s paid off or it hasn’t, either way you’re done. If you’re younger it’s because you know what you like. Dont ever let society define YOUR happiness.

Reminds me of my grandfather. Old man lived up north near Darwin in Australia. Ran a station up that way, used to grow Mangoes as a hobby. Passed away in 2010 when I was about 20 - miss him. He used to yap on and on about all his stories, miss hearing them now but as a youngster, used to drive me to tears! Hahaha - Nobody has a bigger heart than the folk up north. Some of the best memories of my life were up that way.

Colin you are a great inspiration to me. You confirm my way of life, that of being up for change and risk, even as a woman in mu 60s I still live a nomadic life and make it work for me, like no predicted outcome life style can do. Its exciting and yes it pushes me to go further with the trust that all will be just fine. Heres a saying I think you will appreciate....."I never lose, I win or I learn." Amen.

I'm a psychologist and I have given clients the True Colors Personality Test. I took it myself and I am an orange. The reason why most states dress their inmates in orange is because they are risk takers ( unfortunately illegal risks). We are more visual individuals. We prefer to lead than follow. We think outside the box. Colin is a perfect example of an orange personality. He is visual, even in his stories. He illustrates his experiences. An absolute treasure. Please bring him back again.

Horses are such sensitive creatures and I wonder how your horse feels being forced to gallop in the night, in the heavy rain, down hills, through rough country. If that horse slips and falls it's game over for the horse. I know you are chasing feeling anything, feeling fear specifically, but think about how that poor horse feels when you subject it to such terrifying conditions.

I've tried for years to figure out what it is about Colin that people find so endearing. He's one of the most manipulative, name-dropping self-promoting bullshit artists in Southern California. Not surprised at all that he submitted an application to sit down with Mark just to hear himself talk. Never met a horse wearing one of his "custom-fitted" saddles that wasn't almost crippled from being so backsore. I've kicked his poorly designed saddles off of client horses because they were so poorly-fitted the horses would crumple when you touched their backs, even though they were made specifically for those horses. Just absolutely deplorable. Maybe it's his accent that makes people think he's interesting and exotic, but all I see is a sexist, smooth-talking snake oil salesman who's gotten very good at taking advantage of people who like to hear a good story.

He's very interesting, but once the camera is off and he returns home, at the end of the day, I wonder if he really is as happy as he portrays.

I just heard him mention working on the film Man from Snowy River , and the Australian stock saddle which I heard a lot about as my brother is Heath Harris who I’m sure Colin would (past tense) have definitely known as Heath was the horse trainer /wrangler /stunt rider. That amazing scene of the horses& rider charging full pelt down that steep mountain , he broke his Leg in 16 places during bone of the 6-8 takes .. anyway I wanted to mention this as Heath suddenly took his life in 2022 at the age of 74 , for reasons that I won’t mention here but it’s torn what was left of my family apart .. such a coincidence , I would love to contact Colin to ask if he was friends or knew Heath . Despite what he did , he was certainly an amazing horse man on many levels ,I miss him .

Its funny how your attitude toward risk changes over time (at least for me it has). Growing up in Europe and having had a global career, ever since I can think my dream was to come to America. I signed off my last ship in 1995 and came here on a one-way ticket - not knowing anybody, no money, no job/papers etc. There was not a doubt in my mind and fear never even entered the picture. Fast forward 20years, I had to make a decision to move from the east coast to the west coast (technically, another no brainer) took me months and months to contemplate to make the move (also not knowing anybody but equipped with 10x the ability to make the move x-country vs what I had immigrating to the US) Both were without a doubt the best decisions I ever made. I think bad experiences over time, wire you too be more cautious (sometimes needlessly) which is a shame.

Enjoyable interview. Not the life I choose, but nice to hear another's take. I prefer risks with a purpose and plan for the future allowing for adjustments. I'd be tired jumping idea to idea. But that's what makes life interesting, how different we all are.

I guess this is one or the most crucial part to tell a story about Europe! We have a much more secured life then Americans because of the social care system. The contradictory thing about social care is that one might think that the people think less about risks because they will get medical care for free in all cases. But that's not true. People are getting more and more anxious about their lives, for whatever reason. And that's why America is making progresws in so many areas like economic development. Americans are used to taking risks on their one while Europeans think, will I be safe or not.

I was a commercial Salmon fisherman. But really all jobs that I worked had some degree of risk.

Hello, Mark, I appreciate the awareness of your channel and how genuine the interviews are. I saw in the channel's description for ad/business info to be directed towards the soft white underbelly website. Unfortunately, I am having difficulties regarding providing contact information through the website. Hopefully, there is another way to reach contact. Thanks

If I may, the way to contact Mark is through the email in this video’s description under the About tab. One email, is as you mentioned, is for business/ad placement and the other is for everything else. If you are having difficulty emailing with the ads email maybe try the other? But the way you worded it “through the website” makes me wonder did you perhaps go to the website? Because what’s provided is an email which doesn’t require going to the website. Hope I’m understanding you and hope that helps.

@clairelumiere2901 Hello, yes thank you for helping and your response. Yes, I believe you understood my comment, the best I could articulate 😅. Unfortunately, I do not see an email to contact business related to the About Me tab. So with this circumstance, I went to the SWU website, I'm still searching for the email mentioned, since I don't see it. Thank you a lot!

@@addaddtwice . Again, both emails are found in this video’s description under the About tab which is found by clicking “more” near the top of the video under the title and then clicking the About tab at the bottom. I can’t spell them out as my comment gets deleted by the social platform. The best I can do is, if you are looking for the business email it’s the word “ads” and the @ sign followed by the channel’s full name followed by the usual period and c o m. It doesn’t involve going to the website as it’s the email address. That’s all I can offer and good luck!
