@@billychops1280 A little fun fact: the Frankish language is basically Old Dutch (or at least, that's what it evolved into). Of course, other elements have entered the language since then (e.g. some English, French, Frisian, Latin etc. elements), but Dutch is the most "original"/conservative version of the Frankish language. High German was also heavily influenced by the Frankish language; although it underwent the High German consonant shift and was mixed more with other Germanic languages.

Thank you our literature is very important as is our history in bulgaria!

I do not believe they are teaching the Western history completely and accurately in schools and universities. They are typically stuck in their Hellenic-centric explanations. Western civilization is much older than Greek and Roman history that preoccupies the current Western thinking. When that is corrected and people are better educated, then they might take more pride in preserving the Western culture, which I happen to think it is a great culture and has made fantastic contributions to mankind. Most Westerners do not know their history, ethnic and linguistic background….

I would not recommend this video for use in class. The Bulgars were not Turkic and the language was not adopted from the Slavic population. However, the rest of the video is fine...

The bulgars came into present day Bulgaria from the northern part of the Black Sea idk if they were Turkish but it definitely doesn’t sound right and I also don’t know why the Thracians were included in the vid, all they did was inhabit the land many centuries before the Bulgars

Russia didnt want to free Bulgaria. They just wanted to beat the Ottoman empire. They even made a secret agreement with other countries not to allow Bulgaria to be a powerfull country in case it ended up being freed as a result of their battle with the ottoman empire.

Nikov is the first Bulgarian historian to pay special attention to, and attri bute great significance to, the Turkic components in the Bulgarian ethnogen esis (i.e., after the Bulgars) and among the ruling aristocracy. He elaborated on the issue of the "Turkic element's" influence upon Bulgarian history in a 1928 unpublished manuscript (delivered as a public lecture). Nikov began with the following policy-setting statement: There is no period in our history on which the Turkic element did not exert its strongest influence and did not leave the deepest traces in the development of our people. [...] None of the Balkan peoples has experi enced the Turkic influence so strongly as our people, The Turkic pressure began from Central Asia and had two directions to the northwest through southern Russia, and to the southwest through Persia and Asia Minor. The Bulgarian state was founded due to one of the Turkic peoples, the Bulgars, who themselves joined a number of Turkic tribal alliances (of Huns, Kutrigurs, Utigurs, Avars, and Khazars). During Byzantine rule, the Turkic Pechenegs and Uz came from the north; many of them crossed the Danube and were assimilated by the Bulgarian people. Then came the Cumans, without whose decisive help the uprising of Asenevtsi would hardly have succeeded. Thus, just as the First Bulgarian Kingdom was founded with the help of the Turkic Bulgars, the Second Kingdom was founded with "the decisive collabora tion of the Turkic Cumans."129 Not only did Cumans settle south of the Danube and become assimilated and absorbed by the Slavic-Bulgarian people, but they were also of great significance politically in the Second Kingdom, whose dynas ties all had Cuman blood in them. There were also many Bulgarian boyars of Cuman origin, including Balic in Dobrudzha. It could even be said that the Cumans acquired a dominant position in the political life of the state. 130 There followed the influence of the Mongol Tartars, who even supplied one Bulgarian king, Chaka. But of greatest importance were the Ottoman and Seljuk Turks, who conquered the Balkans from Asia Minor. Concerning the Cumans, Nikov considers the "transfusion of blood" from Turkic "elements" an asset, a means of rejuvenating and strengthening the "race" and enhancing the vitality of the Bulgarian people (in contrast with the conquering Turks).

Anti-Turkish rhetoric is now reflected in the theories that challenge the thesis of Turkic origin of the Proto-Bulgars. Alongside the ‘Iranian’ or ‘Aryan’ theory, there appeared arguments favouring an autochthonous origin... The ‘parahistoric’ theories, very often politically loaded and have almost nothing to do with objective scientific research in the field of Proto-Bulgarian Studies, could be summarized in several directions:...3)‘Aryan roots’ and the ‘enigmatic Eurasian homeland’. Meanwhile, another group of authors is looking eagerly for the supposed homeland of the ancient Bulgarians in the vast areas of Eurasia, perhaps by conscious or unconscious opposition to the pro-Western orientation of modern Bulgaria. Just a few corrections, Bulgars weren't Turkic, modern DNA testing of both modern Bulgarians and skeletons reveal full Indo-European ancestry, less than 1% Turkic Mongolic or Altaic genes. They didn't adopt the Slavic language or customs, a sort of homogenous group emerged with equal value to all its constituent ethnicities, the first reforms were done under Krum's reign and continued in the centuries. A large Slavic majority is unknown and only speculative. The Byzantines and Bulgarians were exchanging victories, "often victorious" is unfair to the record. Basil conquered Bulgaria the same way Bulgarians conquered many o-parts of Byzantium. Also a not so fun fact, in the second Bulgarian empire Tsar Kaloyan (Yoanitsa) would call himself the roman slayer, he viewed himself as a vengeance to Basil and killed many of the armies he fought with a lot of prejudice. In contrast the son of his older brother that would grow into Tsar Ivan Asen II would spare many armies and in hearing of his mercy many fortresses would open his gates for the soldiers willingly.

The Bulgarians once bordered Croatia and often came into conflict, so that they would later turn Raška into Serbs, who were created from the Bulgarians, so that the same Serbs would attack the Bulgarians, and today the Serbs claim that they are the oldest people in the Balkans, but in fact they were Croats from Raška. who took over Orthodoxy and turned it into the Serbian religion of Svetosavlje and took the Cyrillic alphabet from the Bulgarians as their Scripture

For a long time, the Bulgharian state retained a Turkic organisation, which gradually adopted elements borrowed from Byzantium. Some of the titles have still not been deciphered, but kavhan, boy/a, khan, kolovur, bagatur, tarkhan and sampsi are Turkic in origin, or were at least used by Turkic peoples. In the meantime, the leading Turkic class gradually diminished, and became assimilated in to the Slav population. By the end of the 7th century, bilinguality was wide spread. Omurtag's three sons (also) had Slavonic names (Vovin. Zvinitsa and Malamir). The linguistic effect of Turkic-Slav coexistence is also reflected in inscriptions. Among the titles of court office bearers was, för example, the ichirgu boy/a, the 'internal boyla' of which parallels are attested in Turkic sources of Central Asia. From a Cyrillic inscription of around 969 it is known that at the end ofthe era this would be approximately uttered as chregubilya. The second element of the title is the origin of the Hungarian name Béla, used by several kings of the Árpád dynasty. R., 1999. Hungarians and Europe in the early Middle Ages. Because the Bulgars and the Vlachs ware long term allies since 6th century (due to common needs), and the second Bulgarian Kingdom offered way more pleasant tax policy than anyone else. Also considering how the second Bulgarian Kingdom was officially a peasant state with power vacuum it's first monarchs (Asen and Petar) ware of half Wallachian origin.

​​@@rawka_7929that's a lie, if it wasn't for the political shelter offered by Valachia and the Cuman mercenaries which would become the spine of our second kingdom Bulgaria wouldn't exist at all, the second Bulgarian Kingdom was established due to countless social and political reasons. Wallachia at the time was more akin to Venice in the sense of being more pragmatic and profit oriented than geopolitically ambiguous. They had little to loose from being part of the second Bulgarian Kingdom and a lot to gain from it: better tax policy, influence over 4 times their territory and never the less all of the benefits from Empire logistics and labour capabilities.They left only when the second Bulgarian Kingdom was at it's fading point durring 13th century.

@@peterdenov4898 Wallachia didn't exist when the Empire was first established (Empire not Kingdom). As for size and autonomy? Bulgaria was bigger than Wallachia, and by quite a bit. Autonomy? Depends on the era, because sometimes they didn't have that much and other times they were defacto independent. As for Vlach help? It is indeed undeniable, but it doesn't change that it was a mainly Bulgarian Empire.

The Turkic languages are clearly interrelated, showing close similarities in phonology, morphology, and syntax. Historically, they split into two types early on, Common Turkic and Bolgar Turkic. Yes, all professors in your Turkish university are probably brainwashed just like your president who thinks the freedom of speech is bad for Turkey. Also, it’s important to look at the latest genetic discoveries. They give a very definitive answer that Bulgarians are very far from any relation with the Turks. Much closer relation with Greeks, Italians, Serbs, Croats, even Romanians. Try science and history next time. Just because you keep repeating something it doesn’t make it true. 😉

It may be derived from one or more of several Turkic words such as böri - meaning "wolf", or from bogöri - which means "short", or from bars - meaning "snow leopard". The name Krum is of Turkic origin and means "governor prince" (from kurum "rule, leadership, administration").

The original Bulgars that arrived from the Volga were of Irano-Turkic descent. The Bulgars mixed heavily with the local Slavic and Thracian tribes that inhabited the Balkans briefly before the Mighty Bulgars arrived to conquer the lands and unite all the southern tribes against a common enemy and was then responsible for creating a standardized slavic language and alphabet for all peoples in the Bulgarian Empire.

@@IgorDimitrov Kanasubigi which means ruler under God I think, a common misconception. Even so a simple title dosent mean anything in regards to ethnical identity. There are about 20 or so Turkic words in the Bulgarian language, most relating to military stuff and ranks. Almost like they could've had Turkic mercinaries or they adopted their titles because they liked them.

To be accurate, please include the Scythian origin of Bulgars who are not Turkic. To present only the Bulgar history after 7th century AD can be very misleading.

Thracians were not and arent bulgarians.thracians got fully hellenized during the hellenistic and byzantine period mixing with the greek population so when bulgars and slavs came they were greeks.Not only historically but genetically it has been proven that greeks and italians are closer to ancient thracians who have been extinxt and absorbed is the greek world.
