A step by step guide on how to become a UKRN from being a Filipino nurse (OSCE SYSTEM, NEW NORMAL)

The United Kingdom is planning to augment 50,000 more nurses by the year 2024. It is a perfect opportunity for Filipino nurses to join in. Aside from seeing the famous London Tower Bridge and to live in a country where the legendary Beatles came from, UK is competitive overseas country to work in.
I have created this flow chart in order to help aspiring Filipino nurses to have an idea and overview of the UKRN process. I am one of the thousands of Filipinos working for NHS in UK and I am more than excited to share the process to my countrymen. The flow chart is very simple, which you save in your phone as an image and you can use as a guide in your step by step journey to becoming a UKRN. It is also available in PDF file which you can download in the phone, feel free to choose which file type you prefer, both are downloadable in the top of the page.
Here are step by step guide narrated in simplest format.
1. English exam- You may choose to have IELTS (Php 11,500) or OET (Php 22,000), prices are estimate. I went with the former since it is cheaper and I have an ample of time to review. Most of my colleagues have tried the OET as it is more flexible in terms of the technicality and has more passing rate than IELTS.
2. Create an NMC account.
3. Phase 1 (THEORY)- the CBT Exam- you will be prompted to register to the CBT once you have created the NMC account. This exam is the theory part. In order to pass the exam you have to review notes, estimated review time: 2 weeks- 1 month
4. Once you have passed the CBT, you may look for an agency. I have used Omanfil on my application to the UK. They are very helpful and supportive (I have not been paid to endorse them but this is my honest review). There are lots of agencies, you have to be CAREFUL in selecting the accredited agencies with the POEA. Scammers are everywhere! Do not fall victim to them.
5. The agency will then offer you with jobs and employers. It is up to you to select. This process will depend on the agency. On my case, it took about 3 months from my first date of application to the date of my deployment. Some agencies have ready COS and they can deploy faster, your time limit for this stage is about 3-6 months. If it is taking longer, I would suggest changing plans.
6. Police clearance- Below is the file from NMC, downloadable. If you are an ex-OFW, worked overseas for more than 12 months in the last 10 years, you have to provide a police clearance from that country. On my case, I worked in Saudi Arabia for 8 years as a Travel Agent, so I exhausted all options to get and secure a police clearance. I was able to find one through a proxy representative.
7. IOM Test- this is a requirement to all traveling to the UK for work. It is a TB test. If your test is negative, you will proceed with the next step. If there is a finding (a scar in the lung, any abnormalities) you will have to prove that you are clear and negative of TB. It might take about 3 months to get the sputum test's full result and will delay your application.
8. Issuance of COS, flight ticket and UKVI (UK Visa)- Once IOM is done, the agency will have to assist you with the UKVI application. They will guide you in filing the visa and you will have to book an appointment for the visa appearance and biometrics.
9. Phase 2- PRACTICAL EXAM- the OSCE- You will now be in the UK at this stage, and you will work as a Band 3 (a senior health care support worker) while reviewing for the OSCE. The OSCE exam is a challenging exam and you have to maintain your focus and determination so that you will only have to attend this exam once. Failing should not be an option.
10. Once you passed the OSCE, you will then be promoted to Band 5 where you will receive all benefits of being a registered nurse and a UKRN.

Hello Jodi, salamat po. Yun nga po sana next vid namin kaso na busy kami sa aming baby hehe. Hindi po sila ganun, meron lang po silane guidelines na sinusunod. Yung wife ko may scar siya kailangan niya mag submit by 3 sputum samples na negative na delay din kami. Msg ka lang po dito kung may question kayo tulungan po namin kayo sa pagbigay nag info.

Sa Niners ako nag review ng OET, online yung mga sessions nila. It will not matter kahit san mag review ang mahalaga maganda ang foundation mo. At aral mabuti ;)

Hello, sa saudi police clearance ko may kinontak ako tao from jeddah, nag aasikaso siya ng police clearance in your behalf. Meron siyang list ng reqts na ihahanda mo para maasikaso niya. Legit naman siya, total na nabayad ko is about 30k pesos lahat lahat. Siya mag aasikaso ng lahat ng transaction sa saudi. Medyo mahal siya pero wala akong ibang option. Ang una kong ginawa ay nagpunta ako sa camp crame para magpa fingerprint. Tapos yung copy na yun dinala ko sa munisipyo para ma seal. Tapos pinadala ko sa saudi sa kontak ko. Siya nagasikaso doon. Hello Geff, meron akong mga handouts na pinasa din sa akin ng kaibigan ko dati. Share mo email mo nang maipasa ko. God bless sa exam. Galingan niyo po. Focus lang, ang cbt ay test of knowledge, hindi siya ganoon ka hirap pero mag aral ka mabuti.

Hello po. Clarify ko lang, overseas kaba at nag aaskikaso ka ng papuntang UK? Alam ko pwede ka magpa medical clearance basta doctor siya kung saan ka man naka destino. Hindi ako sure sa accredited ng NMC. Basta medical doctor pwede siya mag certify ha fit to work ka.
Kabayan ask lang ex ofw ko .umuwi ko during lockdown close lahat noon ng office wla makalabas except Yong mga umuwi n may free flight offered by our PH government.ikaw saan k nkakuha ng police clearance mo ?.nkuha mo b noon nag open n mga airport at mga office.thank you.

Hello po. Sorry late reply. Yung sa police clearance, pinrocess ko siya nun papunta na ako sa UK, bale sa pinas pa lang inasikaso ko na ang saudi police clearance ko, nag hanap ako ng agent taga saudi siya LEGIT naman siya at nakuha ko after mga 3 months dito na ako sa UK nung nakuha ko siya. Message niyo po ako sa fb- gepril gloria para po ma explain ko ng maayos ang process. Thank you

Hello, both are English proficiency exams. Yung OET is more on the nursing side na English exam mas nursing related siya, mas mahal ang bayad nasa approx 22k pero para sa akin statistically mas marami pumapasa. Yung IELTS naman, literature talaga siya purely English literature. Mas mura nasa 11k pero ang chances of passing challenging. Ngayon ang question is ano ittake mo. It will depend kung gaano ka kahanda sa exam. Kung maganda ang foundation mo sa English go with IELTS pag alanganin ka go with OET. But make sure na fully prepared ka bago mag take para mapasa mo siya.
Saan po magtetake ng OSCE? Sa UK napo ba mismo?

Hello, sorry sa late reply. Depende po sa inyong preference. Meron kasing British Council, meron ding IDP. Both are authorised IELTS provider. So halimbawa sa British council ka, doon sa website ka nila mag aaplay. Online lang ang application ng mga yan, online din ang payment.

Hello, sorry for the late reply. Yes, meron siyang expiry. Nakalagay siya mismo sa ATT email. Chineck ko ang akin, magbibigay siya ng authorized dates so guide mo yun kung kailan ka mag ttake ng cbt. Pero the sooner the better. Thanks.

Wala po mam, returnee po ako. 13 years po ako nawala sa nursing kakabalik ko lang po. Basta po pasado sa english exam yakang yaka po.
Sir, tumatanggap po ba ng 1 yr exp? OR area po exp sa tertiary hosp.

Yes mam! Go na po. Saktong sakto lang ang 1 year exp. Kailangan talaga ng exp para may edge ka sa ibang candidates gusto nila dito may base experience na ang nurses. Most likely po OR ang placement ninyo pero depende sa availability ng employer. Pwede ka sa OR pwede ka rin sa ward. -nurse gep

Wala pong age limit, fair po ang mga tao dito, basta po competent kayo yun ang importante. Walang edad edad dito sa uk, lahat nagttrabaho.
