A Splash Of Colour -Part 2 ( Honda C90 FULL RESTORATION )
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
After a ton of work im very glad to bring you part 2 of the restoration. You may want to watch it over a couple of 15 min sessions as there is a lot of work to take in ;)
The item in question is a 1979 Honda C90 motorcycle , scooter, moped or whatever else you want to class it as lol. It was a barn find that has been sitting off the road for years and when i got the chance to buy it i snapped it up.
From the initial inspection it didn't look to bad but tearing it down uncovered a series of areas that will need rectification work if i want to get this back to factory fresh.
The plan is to go thorough the bike methodically restoring, replacing and fabricating as need be to make this one of the best restored c90's out there and as you can probably tell from my other videos the finish will be second to none ;)
so sit back relax and enjoy a series of videos documenting the full restoration of the bike from start to finish.
If you like what you see and have any ideas for the channel or would even like to donate something to restore to the channel please get in touch. :)
And as usual if you liked the video please like share and subscribe and help the channel grow.

Awesome work man. I can see why it took a hot second to upload the next video. No pressure to get them out fast- quality over quantity. I can see your dedication to bring this Honda back to life and it is seen throughout the little details you put into it. Keep it up!

Hey, Thank you for your kind comment and understanding. It really does take a long time to work a full time job and restore a bike not to mention filming it and editing it but its all worth it when you get to see the fruits of your labor and get to chat with you guys about the work being done. :)
This video reminds me of a project I took on that had a life of its own. In 1990 rented a House with a girlfriend at age 23, the house had a detached garage, an empty space that held an old 1978 Honda 750. The owner of the house said the engine on the bike was locked up and if I hauled it off I could keep whatever scrap money I got out of it. After looking the bike over I decided to see what was wrong with the engine, before I scraped the bike. One of the cylinders was scored up badly enough to seize the engine, so I took the engine out of the frame and took it to a buddy who loved such projects. He agreed to get my junk engine running again but it would be months before it was ready. The owner of the bike signed over the title of the bike to me so I began working on all the other issues the bike had in my spare time. The brakes had to be rebuilt, the seat was a rats nest, it needed the wiring gone through, both tires were flat and dry rotted.. the bike had sat from 1980, 10 years of dust and neglect. So I cleaned and replaced and repaired and such, even polished and repaired things along the way. A visit to a local junk yard netted me a few things I wanted, like different handle bars, a fender that I could paint ( the original was solid chrome... yech) I ordered a new seat cover from a Honda dealership, and my mom fitted it over some new foam padding for me. Finally after 8 months my friend dropped the engine off at my house. It was reinstalled in the frame. It was now a few CC’s bigger than 750cc’s, we guessed it was around 806cc’s, a minor improvement. I bought two new tires and had them mounted, and the bike was ready to ride. I had spent approximately 400$ I had a great bike, that looked somewhat new, it had loads of power, and I was happy with it. I traded that bike to a guy who had an old Harley in baskets in his basement a year later. And so began the next project.

Oh, I remember these! My mate had one in college, but his was blue and white if I remember. Loads of fun! He got four of us on there one day and as he pulled off we all went flying! The bike was on top of him and the exhaust was burning his leg but we were laughing so hard we couldn't pick the bike up off him. The more he was shouting to help him the weaker with laughter we got! Sounds bad but he was fine, that day was hilarious!

Hey, Thanks for the comments. If it was the original paint i would have been tempted to do a sympathetic restoration and keep the original paint, its hard to show on camera but the bike is not in its original paint it has been badly painted by brush and is covered in rust under the surface so leaving the old paint is simply a no go.

Great job on the whole project, but im very happy to see you took it down to bare metal! Im always disappointed when someone doesnt do a "full resto" & they just paint over the existing, or dont even repaint sonething they just wash it even though it really should have had a full resto done. Taken down to bare metal. Again very well done.
Great job! This is going to be a real beauty when you're done!!!

Bugger this is a serious restoration .
I've found applying a layer of plastic wrap after applying the stripper gets everything off in 1 go. The chemical reaction performed gives off gasses and heat and if you lock those in then you save time and product.
I might have went against the grain a bit and, perhaps went with a Spanish Gold basecoat and then maybe 3-5 coats of candy apple or candy brandywine, then wet it down good with a coat of clear or two. Great job thus far though. Can't wait for the next video.

i like that gel that removes paint like that.
I’m impressed I have one as well that’s onmy to do list for a restoration I actually liked your frame look in bare metal although your complete process does turn it into a nicer looking finished product and I like the idea of converting the rust and sealing it like you did mine will be similar as I plan on doing new Black paint on the frame and I’m hoping to do a buff on the engine to give it that chrome like contrast as I did on another Black Honda I owned btw my Old Honda 90 is a 1964 S90 model

I think I would have took it somewhere and paid to have it bead blasted. Pitted areas always seem to show up as later problems - in my experience anyway. However I've had pretty reliable results with liquid rust treatments ( not the cheap ones ) on big stuff like farm equipment, etc. Very nice job and well done.
Great job! I love it.

I had one of these C90's back in the days when I lived in London; a Y Reg. Blue & White it was [what year would that be? 1982?]... You're doing a fantastic job giving the old Cub a new lease of life. Can't wait for the next episodes.
