A Small Drone Session (Soma Lyra-8 / Bastl Microgranny / 1010 Lemondrop)
A little drone to ease myself into the endtimes (or end of the year, I forget).
The main "motif" you hear at the start of the track is the 1010 Lemondrop granular - a new acquisition that really impressed me when I tried it out at Synthfest a few months back. I'm glad to have added it to my collection and I can see it getting a lot of use. It's playing a "self--playing" patch based around a couple of the factory samples. The reverb you hear on this sound is coming from the synth itself.
The next sound you hear is the Bastl Microgranny - another granular synth but with a polar opposite vibe to the 1010. It's running through a cool filter unit from TSL Studio Equipment and then into the Lyra-8, taking advantage of the delay and drive (the Lyra-8 is then going out into the GFI Specular Reverb).
The Lyra-8 is being the Lyra-8, that is to say: it's beautiful and destructive and chaotic and alive. I've really been digging into embracing the Total Feedback mode recently and there's a lot of that going on here, which is what's causing the pitch glides and the fighting between the notes played for dominance. Cool.
I'll probably do a separate post about it, but I won't be doing Jamuary/Droneuary this year - I have 2 big, exciting but time-sensitive projects happening in January and I just won't be able to justify working on anything but those projects in the small amount of free time I have, so take this to be an offering to the Drone gods in penance.

Those "drops" from the adequately named Lemondrop suit the drones quite well, and the reverb setting is very tasteful. Good job, the drone gods should be pleased with this one. 😁

I'm quite taken with the lemondrop, although I daresay I'm more into using it to chop up larger audio files than the "traditional" granular tricks. The fact it can process live audio in realtime is especially something I'll be exploring. I will continue to make these offerings lest they become dissatisfied.
Sometimes I listen to music and can't wait for it to finish. But then there are those other times when I've been listening for a while and I look up and it's been five+ minutes and I'm not ready for it to even think about ending yet. So, this would be one of those latter times.

Enjoy the old drones! I will certainly be having fun, I can't wait to share the details (but that might be a while yet, sadly).
I don't know why, but where a lot of your drone/noise sessions feel "sharp" or "soft" this one feels.. "jammy"! If that even makes a lick of sense. (I think it's a syntesthetic thing.) Interesting.

I'm glad that you went with "jammy" and not "gloopy". There's a watery "droplet" vibe here, perhaps that's what's making it gelatinous?!

@@OscillatorSink haha perhaps! Definitely not gloopy. Jammy or treacle-y I’d say. Like something that gets stuck to your gums and the roof of your mouth! Not just watery but non-newtonian in malleability. Very cool either way, not sure which piece of gear is doing that or if it’s an emergent property of the combination!
