Had this Netflix version been FIRST, been the only version, it would have been the talk of the town. The problem is the Jim Carey interpretation is still very fresh.

The original film's a couple of years old now and they never gave it a sequel, so I don't think this Netflix version will struggle too much because of it. Having said that, I was thinking about the Jim Carrey's version of Olaf throughout this trailer.

They had Jim Carrey play Olaf in the last adaptation. He's more of a Wile E. Coyote character than a villain.

Allaboard I will strongly respect this reboot more than now if it contains the usual stuff Netflix shows. I.E. lots of Effing and blinding and some open graphic violence and a catchy theme tune

Have you read the books? Because they weren't full of "effing and blinding" at all. On top of that, while the aesthetics for the film Jim Carrey starred in were on point, the story suffered pretty hard from transfer from books to the movie. While I recognise that some artistic licence has to be taken when adapting books, I for one have a lot of hope that the essence of the books will be captured much better in series form than the movie.

I'm going to enjoy this either way, but I do wish the adults from the movie cast were still in it.... Jim Carrey, Timothy Spall, Billy Connolly, Meryl Streep and Jennifer Coolidge were perfect in their roles

I totally agree with you. At the same time, the movie showed the more dark comedy of the books. The series will just be exactly like the books. I think the cast choices are good :-)

It's so difficult not to compare the cast to the original actors, despite how long ago the original film was! I won't dislike it just because it's different though. Need to see more before I can judge.

Carrey had that tinge of eccentric sociopathy that is hard to pull off. This guy's short clip kind of reminds me of a Hannibal type crazy; calm, calculating, and poised. Which in the books, Count Olaf is anything but.

Mr_Girr I disagree. Olaf is not chaotic. Chaos means there is no motive, no reason, to do evil acts. Olaf has the motive and reason to acquire the siblings vast fortune, killing anyone in the way. Cruel, yes. But he has motive, not chaos.

His voice at the end was so anticlimactic -_-

Jeff Broxton Olaf in the books was sinister, not zany and funny like Carey. His interpretation was loose at best. I also don't really like or respond to his kind of physical comedy.

While Jim Carry was fitting for the movie, I say NPH is necessary for the series. SUE can get rather dark, and the film while dark had a bit of comedy to it that the old Olaf I don't think could match. If you want to change the tone of something, you go with a different actor, sort of like with the Joker in a batman series. All and all, I'll reserve my opinion till I see the whole thing.

Ok, i didnt really read anything when i was a kid; but this....... this i read. And for the first time I now understand what its like to see a movie/series of a book you read coming to life. The hype is real.

i think the books tell a better story than the movie but i did like Jim carrey's Count Olaf. it was exactly what i imagined when reading the books. this Olaf doesn't come across as crazy or charming. Yes being angry and wicked is part of his character but not his entire personality. I like the props and atmosphere. just hope Count Olaf has some morally grey interpretations and isn't too stereotypical bad guy. These books were one of my favorite series growing up.

I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MY LIFE BETWEEN NOW AND JANUARY!!!! Maybe just sit by the calendar, waiting.

Bad or good doesn't matter to me. I'm so fucking excited right now. ASoUE was, while growing up, and always will be my favorite book series of all time. As lukewarm as I felt about the movie, I was absolutely horrified that I'd never be able to see any adaptations of Miserable Mill through The End. Thank you, Netflix. Sincerely, thank you.

Jim Carey definitely did a great job with the role for the movie, but there's nothing wrong with being open minded. Hell, we've had 3 different Spiderman actors (and reboots) in the past 20 years and people still paid to see that crap.

WE had that many reboots because of contractual obligations, not because anyone wanted them. There will always be new kids who want to see a Spiderman movie, and the parents to take them.

They better do my favorite childhood book series some good justice......nickelodeon's jim carrey bs had me so mad at the movie theater as a child...they gave it the avatar the last airbender treatment
