You could put 2,000 hours into playing rdr2 and you are almost guaranteed to not find every detail meant to be discovered by the developers. Now that's a good game!

The most plausible solution would be that his father's name is "J. Brooks" and he worked for the post, which is why Jimmy has such a unique pen for the time.

No its more plausible that he is the time machine guy. Which is why he has a steel pen during the time frame. Why would you get a futuristic pen working for the post? Jamie Burks is Jimmy Brooks. What do you call someone named James?... Jamie, Jimmy, or Jim. And Burks name change was simply meant to not cause a Back 2, the future scenario and have the the strange mans hut disappear.

Theoretically the Strange Man was watching Morgan the whole time. Every time he (you as a player) was given a moral choice in the game, somewhere the Strange Man was watching.

The amount of side quests in this game is crazy

@@Will-Max Always check your map for side quests indicators, some only daytime, some only during the night.

What also strikes me as very odd, and what seemingly nobody notices...the text on the drawer when you kill him says, and I quote : "But the man from the ferry found him far too contrary, now Jimmy's family don't see him very much". Arthur never was on the ferry. He wasn't present during the ferry heist. Implying that it's not Arthur the text is mentioning who found Jimmy "too contrary" which is why he died. Now this could be a simple oversight made by the developers, but it could also mean something else entirely. The ferry job was a massacre with many people dying, law enforcement as well as civilians. Perhaps he got shot in the crossfire by one of the gang during the massacre and the text isn't about Arthur at all but rather somebody else.

I think it was oversight by the dev's. There are ghost encounters in this game and you can clearly tell that the ghost characters are spectral in nature. Jimmy Brooks appears to be quite alive. Jimmy's name on the rock 20 years prior to the incident with Arthur and his seemingly ageless appearance is more of a mystery to me. He definitely didn't appear to be a man in his 50's. Perhaps it really was the Strange Man in disguise testing Arthur? Interesting to think about it. I love this game❤

Well the Ferry part is a metaphor for death. In Greek Mythology the dead are thought to be brought to the Underworld by a man on a ferry. His name is Charon. He's pretty cool.

If it really is a test from him maybe his abilities allow him to make the dead less dead looking. I haven’t played the first game, so idk if something like that was done or implied in that. If not then maybe if rockstar makes rdr3 then they’re trying to expand his lore. Or its nothing like that and rockstar is having a laugh at how far we’re reaching for a silly Easter egg

there's only one generation of millennials, generation y... gen x before, and then gen z... wild guess which one you belong to. and no, mario 64 was just ok, nobody said it would never be topped. golden eye was the best 64 game, and even then. if you grew up playing atari and nes you definitely knew how much video games could progress by the time n64 and playstation came around. so it was as dumb then as it is now to say any game will never be topped, just give it a decade or two and it'll look like pac man.@@themiddleman3060

Jimmy Brooks IS the strange man. Jimmy is not the only disguise. There are various encounters in RDR2 which hint at the Strange Man which means that this unknown man appears as others too. He is not the devil, he is Death and he can take whatever form he wants to test people and determine their outcome in death.

I just realized that i killed that guy when i read the second writting in that hut ahahahah

Here’s another interesting that I just realized now. Now that time traveler dude speaks like modern talk when compared to every folks in RDR2. As if he is from another place with that kind of particular speech and words that doesn’t seem to have been used casually or existed back then. Jimmy here also sounded a bit too… modern as well. So does the dude looking for Gavin (which is theorized that he was looking for himself). Another theory of Gavin is that he may be a time traveler as well, and the effect had caused his mind to believe he has another person with him, yet he is one in the same. Thus his mind is pretty much… split in scientific biological way and that is pretty scary to be in his situation. The side effect of time travel?

Apparently there was a letter in Gavin's friend's pocket that said there was a restraining order against him by Gavin, and that Gavin was trying to stay away from that dude. R* took it out and replaced it with the letter that is in Gavin's friend's pocket now. No idea why they changed it. Maybe there was supposed to be more to that story and they didn't feel like doing it up and cut it.

It's actually not the first tim you can choose between good and bad because : in the very first mission there is an O'Driscoll that ambush you in the barne and Dutch leave you the choice to kill or spare him.

The whole point of this encounter is specifically to teach the honor system though. Thinking back, I don't think there was an honor change at the Adler barn either way. Could be just bad memory though.

You’re assuming Jimmy Brooks is in his 30s? If he’s in his 40s he could have made the marking on the stone in his 20s or even as a teen because in those days kids had to work too.

Mysterious man, special contract pen, southern state lore, and ominous poetic writing from the perspective of dead men... yeah im gonna go with crossroads pact with the devil as my guess.

I believe Brooks is just "The Stranger" testing Arthur with local dead people, do you ever see Brooks again if you let him live?

one thing for sure, The Strange Man is not the Devil imo. He's more a representation of death itself, also in rdr1 he tells John that he wishes he wishes he could know or "learn more about life". I always saw that as in he's literally incapable of that bc he's death himself.

Yeah but you kill him later anyway in the raid where you get the dynamite, he has a voice line along the lines of "Shoulda killed me when you had the chance!" So technically Jimmy is the first choice where it means something

I saw a video of someone looking at the model of the baby time traveler in the moms hands. The baby has a brand name on its neck which means its a doll. I dont remember the brand name but i saw the guy go to a toy store in sant denis that had the same name as the dolls brand. Still very entertaining and informative video.

You refer to the character in question as Jimmy Brooks, Jimmy Brooker and Jamie Burks. I'm still confused with the secret that has never been revealed. Is the secret his multiple name changes? These inconsistencies have never appeared in any of my playthroughs. There really is no secret here. The purpose of meeting Jimmy Brooks or Jimmy Brooker or Jamie Burks, whatever his name is, was simply to get the pen from him so you can write in your journal with it. You did know that once you get the pen, the journal reflects the difference with the pencil Arthur was using and the ink from the pen he uses after meeting Jimmy Brooks.

Usually when you follow characters they just go aimlessly and the game throws distractions at you sorta like a bribe to stop follwing them. The moment youre too far away or looking a different way the npcs typically vanish.

I’ve played RDR2 twice, and don’t believe I’ve ever done this quest.

I believe that Francis, Jimmy and the Strange man are ALL NPC Malgamations of the Player Character. AKA DEATH if you with, because throughout the game the only tge player Character has control over if someone lives or someone dies in the game.

I'd not be surprised to see a new "discovery" in this game 5 years from now....the amount of detail and work that has gone into this game is simply amazing.

When I saw he worked for the post it made me think of the Pony Express. Most of the Pony Express riders were teenage boys. Younger than 16 if I remember correctly.

funny typos throughout the video or not, this is interesting and was something I was not fully aware of (the register rock part specifically). what a game.

All the hours of playing this I have NEVER seen that rock with the names on it. Or at least I never paid enough attention to notice. That’s awesome how much stuff is in this game that all this time later people figure things out and find things. RDR2 is definitely the best third person shooter/ RPG game ever imho

Technically you choose good or bad when you are at Sadie’s homestead and Dutch tells you to do what you want with the Odriscol in the barn. Also when you can kill or let the guys in the train go.

This is a complete stretch. Likely just caused by a small oversight during development. Jimmy Brooks is only mentioned in the Strange Man's cabin because hes the Strange Man and the decision to either save or kill Brooks ties back to the Strange Man's role as a Judge over Arthur and/or John

This isn't actually the first time you can choose good or bad, the first time is when you're driving into Valentine and happen upon a man whose wagon wheel has fallen off, you can either choose to drive past him or actually help him, or if you're really evil, you can rob him

How many times have you played through the story? Im a third of the way through my 3rd go and have found your videos really helpful, its amazing how much you remember but also how much you can forget.

I have played over 1200 hours on the ps5 that doesn’t include the 2 or 3 play throughs on ps4 and I have never found that stone. Clearly I’ve passed it a few thousand times because I know right where it’s at based off the map.

That's exactly what the cabin is. It's like the progress screen in the pause menu, put into the game itself. If you notice, the animals in the paintings to the right of the door change depending on your honor at the time. There's several other items that change or get added throughout the game.

Whenever my Arthur is a good man..no ones around to see it. My Arthur just speeding along the countryside, getting surprised by a crossing rider, just to ran him over (unintended of course)...at least 5 witnesses to...dispo....persuade. That strange man sure has some evil ways to test a man. And yes, that Jimmy Brooks looks strange. Ashen skin, red-shot eyes, haunted behaviour....So if it is indeed the strange man in disguise, that pen certainly means something...

If he's mid 30s in 1883, would it be that crazy to think he was working for the US post when he was 15? There is a ton of kids that look even younger than 15 hanging around the factories in St Denis. Child labor is far more likely than time travel.

The date on the rock is 1863, not 1883. That's 36 years before red dead 2 takes place.

Easily one of the coolest most movie esque scenes of the game is when he asks if he should have killed him. Tombstone worthy or better. 👍

I believe Francis at some point in a future game(s) will travel far enough back in time to help Arthur change the course of his life to avoid his untimely death. Why else would a time traveler be injected into a game like this?

The game that dont stop giving

It's fun to speculate but I think the most likely answer is the simplest one: the game designers may have intended to draw a connection between Jimmy Brooks and "J. Brooks" on the registry stone...but just never did. There's certainly no reason for anyone to think it has anything to do with a time-traveler or the devil in a human body. But I guess that kind of speculation gets clicks....
