It's crazy that Viserys dropping and Daemon putting it back on his head was an accident and improvised on set.

The guy that played Viserys did an amazing job.. I had tears rolling down my face watching him walk to his throne.. I really enjoyed this show and have been holding off to watch it again, these videos might've just tipped the scale.

Thanks for the review. Can't wait for season 2. I want to talk about the Rhaenys scene in ep 9, and why I don't think it's as bad as most people say. It could have been done better, on that I agree, but comparing it to seasons 8 scenes is an insult against this show I will not accept quietly. Book readers know that this scene was changed for the show. In the book the coronation plays out without any interferences and Aegon and Healena ride their dragons, Sunfyre and Dreamfyre, around the city three times to celebrate. Rhaenys wasn't even in King's Landing for the coronation, she had left with Rhaenyra. I do think this change in theory works, Rhaenys almost killing the Greens and massacring the people of King's Landing foreshadows nicely a couple of major events that happen later on that benefit from this scene and I think the change was mainly because of this, not that "they wanted to give Rhaenys a cool moment". C'mon, the show runners aren't D&D, they know what they are doing. Let's summarize what happens. Rhaenys gets pulled with the crowd to the Dragonpit, sneaks her way to Meleys, busts out through the floor and threathens the Greens before escaping. First off we are shown two different entrances to the Dragonpit this season, the main one that the crowd uses and a secondary one we see Syrax go through in episode 1 that leads directly to where the dragons are kept. We are unsure if the Greens noticed Rhaenys is missing at this point, but they would have enstructed the Dragonkeepers to guard the second entrance, since that's the one dragons could go through. Rhaenys found her way to Meleys and noticed the entrance was blocked, so to escape she had no choice but go through the first entrance, since it was open to let the crowd in. And she already explained in the next episode why she didn't kill the Greens, you may not like it, but you can't say that it's out of character when she herself gave a valid reason for why she did what she did. So yeah, everything in the scene makes sense in logical terms. What I do think they could have done better is show the sequence of events in a different way and more clearly, so the audience isn't confused. Show us Rhaenys reaching Meleys and figuring out the entrance is closed. Maybe she could bump into one of the Dragonkeepers (maybe the guy we see being trained in the first episode), that secretly supports Rhaenyra or is a spy for Myssaria, so he helps her getting Meleys free and putting on the armor. Then she breaks the floor, massacring the crowd, and confronts the Greens. She is considering what to do but then, attracted by all the chaos, Sunfyre and Dreamfyre show up (since they were about to be ridden by Aegon and Healena they would have already be free). Sunfyre is a young dragon that grew surprisingly fast, being around the size of Syrax. Dreamfyre is older and a bit bigger than Meleys, but her and Sunfyre have never fought in a battle before, while Meleys is much more experienced. They wouldn't stand a chance alone, but together they might have a chance. Meleys is the fastest dragon in the series, so instead of stay and fight them Rhaenys decides to pass the chance to kill the Greens (she still wasn't even sure if she wanted to side with Rhaenyra anyway) and flees the scene. As it is tho this scene is one of the weakest in the season, but not because it doesn't make sense, but because of the way it was shown. Calling it horrible tho is a huge exaggeration, like it doesn't ruin anything. The Targaryens don't care about the common folks (Exept for Viserys and maybe Rhaenyra before Luke is killed), Rhaenys massacring the crowd is nothing crazy, they were just unimportant people in the way for her. It seems people forget we are watching a show that focuses on crazy dragonriding tyrants. That's my take on this scene anyway.

I think it'd be better if they had the scene you mentioned with Rhaenys finding Meleys etc, but then show the Dragonkeeper unlock the door for Rhaenys and have her fly out and go straight for Dragonstone. Then we cut back to the coronation and we end the episode on the shot of Aegon spreding his arms wide, Blackfyre in his hand and crown on his head. That'd be the best ending IMO, though they'd have to set up why that Dragonkeeper sides with Rhaeyns or Rhaeynra beforehand.

@@Trosvvo the thing with your idea, for me, is that by not making Rhaenys confront the Greens or massacring the crowd, you end up with a changed scene that doesn't affect anything. At that point they might as well have followed the book and not have Rhaenys in ep 9. I have no problem with the concept of Rhaenys massacring the crowd or confronting the Greens but then leaving. I only wished the entire scene was told in a different way because people rightfully got confused on what actually happened / why characters behaved that way. Even tho on a closer look everything makes sense it's the first impression that matters most and a lot of people aren't gonna rewatch that scene to understand it better and are gonna be left disappointed.

@@silveratlas2706 no, it doesn't make sense. Rhaeyns could have killed all of them, and then there would be no war. She would end the dance of the dragons if she were to utter the words "Dracarys" which is why her explanation makes no sense. I think it'd make sense to keep her as she still believed that Rhaeynra was behind her sons death, so her going to Dragonstone with them wouldn't make much sense. It's only when she sees the Greens acts of treason and treachery that she decides to support the Blacks.

One thing you missed on the whole argument/fight following Aemonds eye being cut out. Rhaenyra calls for him to be questioned sharply. In ASOIAF that literally means torture. So Alicents reaction was in response to her son loosing an eye and being threatened with torture for simply stating an open secret.

Sixteen minutes into episode 1 of HotD, I was more invested than after two episodes of RoP. There were definitely some issues this season, but overall it was done really well and I'm hoping season 2 is done well.

Gotta say, I really don’t care it leads to S08 of GoT. I was never really caught up in the hype of that show, primarily because I didn’t much care for most of the characters, and the few I did care about, were unrecognisable in the end. HotD is much more centered, focused, and I’m much better able to care for what’s going on here than anything in GoT. My feelings for this show must’ve been what it would be like for a GoT fan back in the day. So if I can get a complete and great story here, I’ll be satisfied. Love its current direction, minus one incredibly stupid scene in episode 9 (41:18), and I hope the large break between seasons wasn’t just spent on the technical aspects, but also the writing.

The pacing wasn't good at all for this season and some of the changes from the book that the writers made also weren't good but yes HOTD brought me back into the fold. Now we hear that S2 will only have 8 episodes, so I have to hope that HBO's cost cutting won't sink this show.

What a negative and narrow view of what turned out to be a great show. Stating your opinions as factual absolutes makes it hard to take anything you say seriously.

On top of that, I found ur comment about arrax being stressed from rain very funny. It’s a cute dragon sure but I think it’s meant to be clear that it has much better sense of what the real danger looming over them is. And its reaction later telling us that arrax understands the profound fear of being physically inferior as well as being made to feel this fear for a prolonged probably humiliating time. If arrax was trying yo protect lucerys, I think they would have put up more of fight. Hiwever both lucerys and arrax are not only inexperienced but very young as well.
