A Review of B11: Kings Festival. A BECMI Dungeons and Dragons module Review #05
Another Classic Adventure, Kings Festival was designed for New players and DMs, by this time B2: The keep on the borderlands was nearing a decade old and was going out of print, this was designed to replace it as a the introductory module for new players.
Obviously I'm still trying to find my way on making videos, let me know if you all have any issues, or requests in the comments. Anything is appreciated. I'm also willing to take a look at any modules you all request.
Thanks,
The Lost Adventurer

So many great memories running through this adventure, great review!
The Print on Demand version was released this year, so you can get it for less than your mortgage now. I ran this one a few years back, converted to a 2ed AD&D group who were all about lvl 2. They struggled through it, had some near misses - and when I told them it was meant for level 1 character in BASIC, they looked at me like they were planning to return me to an asylum. Still, they did have fun with it. I am going to be seeding it and Queen's Harvest in my current OSE game, so we'll see if those players bite.

It's pretty easy to convert BECMI to AD&D thankfully. I wasn't as much of a fan of Queens Harvest.
I have to be honest; I clicked “like” for this video, because it was preceded by a Little Caesar’s commercial. Now, I am going to watch the video, and see if it lives up to the commercial. ;9

Lmao. Can't hate on that. Pizza pizza
This is a cool module that, as you noted, was a late comer to the B/X scene Which is too bad as it would have been one of the classic "B's" if it came out a few years earlier. I enjoyed this module much more than Queen's Gambit which appeared to be just missing something. You are absolutely right about 4 characters not being enough; retainers, hirelings, or sidekicks are needed. A good teaching module that can be dropped into any campaign, if you can find a cheap copy somewhere, it is worth it.

Yeah, I actually ran a few level 1 PCs through it in groups of 4, then 6, then finally 8. 8 was a good number. It borrows a lot from B2 but creates a more linear story path ( my rankings on B2 are biased, it’s one of my first campaigns) which makes this module work really well.
Your work is excellent, it would be awesome if you could ever get to doing all the becmi modules ;)
I love the Lost Adventurer reviews, but I might be a player in this module and I don’t want to spoil it for myself, so I’m avoiding listening to it.
Nice review, hope you do the follow up module too. Edit - Ah I found it, couldn't see it in the general videos pane.

We were about to tell you! Wont lie, it didn't exactly meet our expectations. We wanted more.
EXCELLENT walk thru. You need to do more :)

Working on them as we speak, I never realized before I started doing these things each video takes like 10-12 hours to finish
re: the secret door. One method is to let them search, but if they fail, you can let them find it after an extra turn of time. Which means a greater chance of encounters, using up torches, etc.
I never got my hands on this one. And yes, it does seem very very tough for four lvl 1 characters.

It is quite useful for the DM figure out what kind of players he has, heroes, mercenaries, or murder hobos. :)
I bought this module just last week and me and my friend just started playing today. We have four level 3 PCs a Warrior, Cleric, Battle mage and a Wizard. My version of this story is that The festival is happening is because the king is celebrating the return of his finest treasure and also to honor the heros who defeated the orc king Dragga but Dragga escapes and begins planning on retaking the regions of Ator. We arrive at the cave. My friend rushes and we go after him to try and stop him. We end up slaughtering the 3 orcs at the entrance. The funnest part was the huge battle at the orc bar which lasted an hour and 30 minutes. You know because I was controlling three PCs and DM at the same time. We made it funny because we had the orcs listen to terrible techno music blaring from a old fashioned record player which our PC wizard unplugged with a sigh of relief. Chapter one of the campaign is over and i am looking forward in continuing the dungeon at a later date.
Please do a review of Queen's Harvest :-)

For some reason I thought I had covered that one, but it appears I haven't, so when I get my set up back and running it'll be on the list!
Helped. Thanks. $100!! Oh my
