A Rescued and Saved Eagle Story for Save the Eagles Day!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

A large, but immature bald eagle came into our rescue center last week. Its legs were paralyzed and it was suffering from severe tremors. All signs of poisoning.
Lead poisoning is fairly common in this area as people go out to target shoot at Jack Rabbits and they leave the carcasses behind. The eagles, vultures and large hawks find the carcasses and consume them. The lead pellets in the carcasses start to slowly poison the birds. As in most cases by the time the symptoms become severe and they can no long fly or stand, if found, that’s when they come to us.
After a week of fluids, medications and food we have flushed the toxins from the eagle’s body. She is now regaining her strength and scrappy disposition. She now stand, walk and fly the full length of our 40 foot rehab chamber. If she continues to improve, she will be ready for release within the next couple of weeks.

Our Mission
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
Informing, Educating and Inspiring
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.

Hi i am from New Zealand , before man came along NZ was the land off the birds. It had the largest eagle to ever live. Now we have no eagles at all , luckily we do still have a native hawk. I absolutely love all birds . I have an Alexandrian female , she was an unwanted pet and did not want any interaction at all , 2 years later and she loves me , and trusts me 100 percent. I dont like caged birds , but figure that i may as well have a breed bird , as at least she will get the best life a caged bird will ever have with me. Her cage is massive , she has electric battery operated toys , her door is mostly always open , i work from home so she never gets lonely . I love your american eagles , they look fantastic and i think you are a great man , and your wife is a wonderful person , thank both of you for all you do. Cheers and the warmest regards from New Zealand ---- Grant

@@GowildlifeOrg That's seriously terrible. Although I'm not against guns whatsoever, there should be a stigma attached to those using animals for "sport" shooting. And shotgunning is devoid of any skill. That's pretty evil.
