Our Mission
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
Informing, Educating and Inspiring
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.

Thank you for your dedication to these birds. I live in SE Georgia and am on the road a lot, and whenever safe to do so, I always pull over and move carrion out of the road and off to the side to help prevent more wildlife death. It's baffling to me how disconnected many humans can be when it comes to sharing the road with wildlife. We must show compassion to all wildlife and lead by example. That means slowing down when necessary and helping them out when possible. I had the privilege of viewing a bald eagle up close near my workplace a few years ago. He swooped down in front of my car and off to the roadside to eat, and I immediately pulled over to watch him for a bit. Another time, when delivering a wounded bunny to a local rehabilitator, I had the opportunity to see up close a pair of juvenile great horned owls that were orphaned. Raptors are so incredible! Keep up the good work, Martin.

If I had the money and wasn't just a poor farmer I'd buy him a vehicle that he did not have to spin the cage in. Sometimes things that simple helps immensely. What can we say? Your work is beyond belief. Looks like the wee soul is getting much better. The comment someone made about putting up road signs is a good one. I would definitely ask about it if I were you.

@@diannenaworensky6698: Yes I can imagine it would be hard to get signs up to protect animals. That's because we live in a world with little empathy for animals. If I were in UTAH I would put them up myself. Here in Scotland, people do it all the time. To hell with all the red tape. The way I see it is, "Just Do It". What are they going to do? Send you to prison? No, they can't and if they make a big deal about it then it goes public and then most people will give you support. The whole point is to make it public. I totally agree with your comment, but it's sad that they don't care.

Ceci Wolfcat M, you are absolutely right. People in Florida are idiots. (Small town here where speed limit is 40. Would be amazing if they slowed from the 70 mph. Can't get Hwy patrol to come here much. The last time they were here they wrote one at 85 mph.) We were coming around a curve one day and a Bald Eagle was in the road. We slowed and started flashing our brake lights for people to slow. No, they did not slow, thankfully the Eagle flew off and was not hit. You can't get people to think right. It has to come from within. Love these people. They are just amazing. 🦅❤🦅 ✌🏻❤

Question? We have LANZA here in NZ. We pay registrations for our vehicles to be on the road. Their main responsibility is to maintain the roads including signage as well as road up keep. Why doesn't your road managers do the same? Especially since it is car accidents primarily injuring this precious birds? You're absolutely right in saying that most people assume that birds can just take flight but as you have explained it so simply & quickly, it's not alot to ask that more info stops & signs be erected. People need to be informed so that they can then take responsibility for their actions.
