Following last weeks video, I got super inspired to head back out to London to take more photos straight out of camera. No edits allowed. It's been incredibly refreshing to take JPEGs only and let my Fuji do all the image processing with the beautiful built-in film simulations.
Further to the success of the last vlog, I've also discovered a whole underground Fujifilm community that I had no idea about. Fuji film simulation recipes! I honestly don't know how I was completely unaware of the many recipes and the community around sharing them. It's inspired me to test and experiment more with them and it's honestly been so refreshing to get back out with a camera and publish videos frequently again!
As mentioned in the vlog, check out Fuji X weekly for some recipes: fujixweekly.com/

Loving the London vibes Joe. Good beer and warm sunshine = good times! I must admit I have been enjoying shooting JPEG's with my X-S10 recently. Classic Chrome & Classic Neg are great for particular mood shots. I also shot RAW, then edited them in-camera just to experiment with settings which was fun.

I really enjoyed your laid back video of enjoying taking pictures. I think you really nailed it: There's so much joy in shooting Fujifilm jpegs with a limited number of film emulation presets to chose from on-the-fly and quickly sharing your images vs. spending time post-processing raw files all the time. As others have pointed out, not having to have post-processing power handy all the time is also a big boost to having fun. I don't think I'll ever shoot jpegs only; you never know when that one shot turns out to be significant after the fact.

I find the highlight bloom and colour x contrast problem is usually air pollution hazing the light. I had a huge problem with it during my lockdown summer in Kyoto. Kyoto is a natural haze basin, surrounded by mountains with very little breeze to clear it away. I imagine London is similar with the building density. The air is rarely clean without some kind of typhoon to clean it up. Tokyo has a heat dissipation problem so the architecture and urban planning is built around throughlines for wind to clear out the micro climate.

Such a great video, beautiful captures, and wonderful inspiration. It's been a while since my family and I have been back to London, and this just makes me miss it more. This is such an interesting and refreshing challenge, especially in a time where "shooting RAW and editing" had become such an ingrained process... Just for clarification: When you are "shooting in JPEG", you are simply setting the camera to a desired/tweaked "profile", and then just shooting. Correct? Normally, when shooting in RAW, the "picture profile" settings don't get baked into the file image, correct? So when shooting in RAW, the picture profile settings and colors are baked into the image as is. Am I understanding this correctly? Thanks.

I’ve been shooting JPEGs on my XT1 for seven years and smiling the whole way. I’ve shot a few experimental RAWs along the way, but not more than 100. The rest are JPG. I’m about half way through my shutter’s life-expectancy so it’s a lot of JPGs. Thankfully, JPG storage is also better. Before XT1, I used to upgrade body every 2nd generation. But XT1 definitely deserves the cult following it is getting lately. I may have to upgrade to XT4 soon because some of the dials are starting to be stiff and make poor contact. I had service only once so far because the rubber cladding came unglued. On XT4, I’m looking forward to shooting more RAWs and using Fuji X RAW Studio to use the camera to convert them. Unfortunately, the XT1 isn’t supported by this brilliant software.

Thanks for the classic chrome/negative comparison at 13:37. I have an x-t3 so don't have the latter. I thought in your example at 13:37 that classic negative has higher contrast ... the opposite of what you said. In classic negative, he shadows under the bridge were darker and the person there under the sidewalk was less visible. The green on the trees is a cooler darker green (I prefer). The highlights on the side of the bridge were brighter. Mid tones and highlights were warmer. Reds and oranges stand out a bit more. I do like that better. I heard someone else comment that cneg was better only in good lighting and am curious if you agree on that last part.

Cheers! We love aperol spritz too, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend them at this bar. Pretty sure they forgot about the Prosecco or were just being stingy with it 😔

Thank you for sharing your ideas. And for the uplifting mood. I'm thinking about switching from Lightroom to Capture one. So what about a video about your thoughts on this topic…

Do it, C1 is far better for Fujifilm RAW. You do know that you can get a limited version for free as a Fujfilm shooter?

I have never shot raw. Spending hours processing photos is the last thing I want to do.

Been shoting jpegs for a while now on the x100v, and doing some minor tweaks in snapseed. Can get most of my editing done on the train home with my tablet 😀

Enjoyed this mate. Maybe get yourself an older body like the X-Pro1, stick a prime only lens on, choose a film simulation, use only the OVF and shoot straight to jpeg. That’ll get the juices going :)
