A real D-Lite to deal with

So, a close friend recently picked this lantern up at a swop meet and discovered it leaked. So, he sent this late 40s machine gray Dietz D-Lite home with me to patch the leaks. They were minor and had it done in two days!

My wife pointed out two lanterns at a yard sale that I missed. A rusted out green panted Deitz Monarch with globe intact and a very nice ready to burn D-lite. I asked the price and got them both for 5 bucks

As always my friend, I really enjoy watching your videos, great content... Looking forward to seeing the 1890s lantern on your next video. I must say, that 1890s lantern must be as old as I am… LOL Take care my friend.

Thanks Rob for what you do! This was the first video of your content that I found. There was a misunderstanding on my side because of internet problems. I was less than gracious and you were very professional. Thanks again. I always enjoy your work and I have shared you with my friends who are interested in these things!

Just got my first two lanterns from eBay. I have a non streamlined d lite probably from 1930, and then one of the art deco ones from the 40s I think both have the thick NY USA made glass globes

For outdoor use while walking, the short globes are better as when you look down you can not see the flame. On the tall globes you can see the flame when looking down and it is like looking into the headlights of a car and can not see anything.

I've got that same lantern except mine has been blue ever since it was given to me as a child in the early 60s. I think I re-painted it close to the same color mid 80s with a can of spray paint from Western Auto. Keep in mind the globe on this model doesn't seem to have as much convex curvature to magnify the light, the bottom of mine is full of JB weld, and probably still leaks and needs attention. But I only use it when I'm firing them all up for a party or something, and as far as I know it could be the original wick.

Sir, I just found a beautiful D-lite in an old barn. The Globe is cracked and the roof or hood is rusty but other than that everything else works. I took it apart, cleaned it up, and going to put some Kerosene in it tomorrow and give it a try. Just one question how do I find out what year it was made? Thank you

We have an old Dietz D-Lite number 2. Made in New York real old patent dates on the globe. Where do we find a manufacturing date?

The oldest streamlined D-Lite I have is a 38. Like the 38 Blizzards they have a rising cone. The earliest Little Wizard I have is a late 36. They had smooth founts until late 37. D-Lite never had a smooth side fount model.

Yes! It’s interesting that most have said the first streamlined Dietz lanterns were in 36 but all the early examples I’ve seen were all early 37. Cool to hear you have one from 36! I have a 37 dated smooth fount Lil’ Wiz, love that thing!

Hi, Rob. Is it true that Dietz fashioned the D-Lite after the C.T. Ham's Nu-style? with the short globe?

@@Rayo_Rob_No.17 Thanks, I apologize. And thank you for your content. I found you because I was looking for THIS information. I have a couple of Coleman lanterns and a Dietz #80. The blizzard is in new condition, bought probably 7 years ago.
