For me, these lanterns are works of art. Great job on the rest.

buying a 1926 #2 for less than 40 bucks but it was painted in Very good condition. Have to find out if it takes away the value and how to clean the pain without ruining the finish. Very little rust.

Clear coat on the bare metal would have been nice, it is going to rust with it. Nice resto. I love the old lanterns.

During Operation the wick should not be above the burner cone with the slot in it. The wick should only ever be about the width of the wick in height above the wick tube. If black soot is coming off the flame, it is not being burned properly as black soot only occurs when the wick is being burned, and no the fuel itself. Nice Restoration by the way, the top chimney (the metal cylinder above the globe, not to be confused with the glass part called a chimney that goes on a lamp) is fixed into place by a special machine in the factory and is usually destroyed when you try to remove it. I will keep your process in mind if I ever work on a modern Dietz, the older Dietz chimneys are not spot welded and thus much harder to pull apart as you did.

Thank you for advice 🍺🍺.I have to removed the top chimney because it's was full of rust and I don't like to live rust behind the restoration and look good on the outside.

Very thorough job, especially dealing with the rust. There was alot of that. The finished project looks good. Looking forward to your future projects, including a good oil can, if that's what you decide. Best Regards from the USA.

Using that wheel brush takes away any value, that I do know. The old look must be preserved without any abrasive at all.

Quelle magnifique restauration avec tant de minutie, je suis admirative de votre adresse et pourtant elle revenait de très loin cette lampe. J’ai la même que j’ai aussi remise en fonctionnement mais elle était bien moins rouillée et le verre intact. Bravo.👍

Nice job Alex. I've a No.2 NY USA in large fonts and one of my fav's. As below said. I keep mine dialed down until heated up. Tad high flame I nary get soot. Heck, I gotta light up the porch for the kiddos on Halloween. ~ lol, even parents have mentioned how creepy effect over the decades.

Quite interesting, it makes me to think about manufacturing process, because today this kind of kerosene lamps is quite cheap and it seems to be made almost completely using zinc tin and some press. It made me to watch video how beer can is made, but it's area which is somewhat mysterious to me.

That lamp is a fairly recent Hong Kong or China-made. It would have made sense to simply buy a new globe.

Final piece is amazing. I didn't know rusted metal could be restored to such pristine condition. Did you ever put a coat of paint on it?

You really tear into these things! Good job on that D-Lite! Now, how long are you leaving it in the e-tank? Ive seen less rust when I’ve had some of my projects e-tanked. You do detailed work, amazing! Yet, why the black engine paint on the burner and globe plate? Personal taste? If you want to protect it from rust, I’d use a silver or chrome high temp paint, it’s much more reflective than black. You’re going to get more illumination from silver...just my observations. Keep it up!

If you were going to use the wire brushes on the grinder, why bother with the electrolysis tank? Not criticizing but curious. Socket as an anvil ? Brilliant! Nice smithing!

After showing your work I don't think you would ever have a problem selling them. I do a little scroll sawing and after the work I would rather admire the piece than ever put a number on it. Again, beautiful lamp.
