A Polymer Clay Tutorial: The Simple Striped Slab/Tile Came (reformat)

Originally, this class appeared as many separate parts (my internet speed was soooo sloooow, I had no choice). Well, equipped with faster speed, I can now consolidate the parts and offer this tute as one part. Yay! So much easier to follow, right? Right.
Enjoy!

    I am loving these longer, comprehensive tutorials you are doing. I also love all of the little domestic sounds in the background: Vernon doing laundry, the furry kids coming in to say hello, etc. It's all very cozy.

    Another wow Donna! I have to say you have so much determination and strength. This one looks very challenging and you’ve made it several times. I love that you are driven to always improve on what you’ve made before. I think I would’ve thrown in the towel after a second try or so I love this cane however, I don’t think I could tackle it like you have fantastic work I have to say!

    Oh Donna, I so love watching you create, your precision and accuracy are wonderful. Watching you reduce is not boring! It's extremely helpful to see your techniques and you always make me chuckle with your expressions. Thank you for making this into one video, appreciated. That cane is gorgeous, love the colours and the pattern you created. Hope the furkids are well and not getting up to too much mischief. Have a beautiful day Donna.

    My style is grungy and organic, I can’t imagine working with this precision. It’s kinda stressful just watching 😝. But also I’m surprised at how much clay you just *have*. Bucketfuls. I know you produce it but it’s like you need a whole garage just to store it! It’s fascinating to watch someone who works so differently with the same medium though.

  • @DonnaKatoArt

    @DonnaKatoArt

    I wish I could work more loosely! I’ve tried and it ends up looking sloppy because organic is controlled in a different way. I can’t explain why I can’t do it. My bestie, Leslie Blackford’s art, for instance, is out of my reach. Make sense? I do have quite a bit of clay here! Some very old. I try to be conscientious about asking for clay from the factory and use what they have sent me. Lol, prairiecraft is a garage of clay! We buy it and sell it! 😊❤️

    @@DonnaKatoArt I feel like people who work with precision like this have a very clear idea of what they want from the beginning, as well as how to get there. I kind of start with something sloppy and random then see what I have and react to it. It involves a type of editing of what you find yourself with. And surprise and spontaneity. I have sincerely tried to work like you and it always looks like absolute dookey 🤦‍♀️

    @@DonnaKatoArt, Donna, I imagine using your measure (that the Chinese stole from you) and make two marks on the blocks would be good to place your cutter against. Then you make cuts even more perfect. Also, with the cane you don’t like can’t you cut the orange stripe 4 ways and put in another color to tone down the orange stripe?

    Hi I 'd like to make such a cane, I would to make for me and my three sisters 4 different cubes for earrings starting from the same base. I have drawn it on paper and then cut out triangles to reconstruct again. It is an immens work to do on and with paper. So is anybody here familiar wich drawing program would suit for such a project? I tried paint but it doesn't do what I want, cut and paste a triangle to make a new square....
