A Players' Salute to Coach Barry Switzer

Спорт

A PLAYERS' SALUTE TO COACH BARRY SWITZER WEEKEND August 12-13, 2005
2005 marked the 30th anniversary of Coach Barry Switzer's 1974-75 back-to-back National Championships and the 20th anniversary of the 1985 National Championship.
To celebrate this occasion, the University of Oklahoma Houston Alumni Association (OU Club of Houston) and the former players of Coach Barry Switzer organized a two-day event in August 2005, which reunited 125 of Coach Switzer's all-star players and coaches.
Relive this special tribute to Coach Barry Switzer, which brought together players and All-American legends from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Including Brian Bosworth, George Cumby, Eddie Hinton, Daryl Hunt, Jack Mildren, John Raley, Lee Roy Selmon, Billy Sims, Spencer Tillman, Joe Washington, J.C. Watts and "Dr. Death" Steve Williams.
Many Stories were told, much laughter heard, hugs exchanged, and by the end of the weekend, a few tears of joy shed. This special gathering of so many Sooner players and coaches has never happened before...and may never happen again.

Growing up in the 80s in Oklahoma, Coach Switzer will always be the greatest football coach of all time. Coach Saban might have more NC's, but Switzer is loved by his players like no other.

The man averaged at least 10 wins a season back when teams only played 11 regular season games,no conference championship games, and just 1 postseason game..Amazing!

Barry, you are not perfect. None of us are. But you are a good man for giving young men second chances in life.

People that have negative things to say just don't look at him objectively. He loves life, loves to have fun, and would do whatever he could to help a needy player or anyone for that matter in a tough situation. A testament to his influence is obviously all the folks showing up out of their own free will.

Met him once at a Big Brother's/Big Sister's event...whatever his faults, Barry is a Giver. Ask my hubby, who met him at Christmas...in Iraq. Great man, warts and all.

It is amazing how not just Switzer but all the great coaches can remember not only the players from 20 years before, but the high schools they went to. who their team mates were, and even their mothers names. That's love. Leroy Salmon, and Dick Butka's are the two best defensive football players alive. hand down

The former walk on player John Railey was really funny. He should give stand up comedy a try.

As a huge football fan, I would put coach Switzer right up there with Nick Saban and Urban Meyer. Coach Switzer owned Tom Osborne and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Owned them.

Wonder how his defenses like the 74 and 86 teams would have performed against today's powerhouse offenses like last years LSU.
